New Delhi: Welcoming the Supreme Court verdict on Ram Janmbhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute, the Communist Party of India (CPI)(M) on Saturday said that "certain premises of the judgment were questionable".

“The CPI(M) has always maintained that the issue should be resolved by a judicial verdict if a negotiated settlement was not possible. While this judgment has provided a judicial resolution to this fractious issue, there are certain premises of the judgment which are questionable,” the party said in a statement here.

Reiterating party's stand, CPI (M) Polit Bureau member and former MP Hannan Mollah told ETV Bharat here that the Supreme Court has tried to end the matter.

He, however, said it must not be used to create any disharmony in the country.

"No attempt should be made to provocate people," the CPI (M) added.

Earlier in the day, the top court paved the way for the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya and directed the union government to allot an alternative 5-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a new mosque in the holy town of Uttar Pradesh.

Body:"The polit bureau urges that there should not be any provocative acts using the judgement," said CPM polit bureau member and former MP Hannan Mollah to ETV Bharat.

Hours after the apex court gave its verdict on decades old Ayodhya conflict, CPM polit bureau in its meeting in New Delhi welcomed the judgement and said that everyone should respect court order.

"The Supreme Court has given its verdict on the long standing dispute in Ayodhya. The court has handed over the 2.77 acre disputed land to the Hindu side for the construction of a temple through a trust. It has directed that an alternate plot of 5 acres be alloted to the Sunni Wakf Board for the construction of a mosque," said Mollah.

He said that by this order, the five member Constitution bench of the Supreme Court has sought to end the dispute which has been utilised by the communal forces and resulted in large scale violence and loss of life.

Conclusion:The CPM has always maintained that the issue should be resolved by a judicial verdict if a negotiated settlement was not possible.

"While this judgement has provided a judicial resolution to this fractious issue there are certain premises of the judgement which are questionable," said Mollah.

The court judgement has stated that the demolition of the Babri Masjid in December 1992 was a violation of law.

"...This was a criminal act and an assault on the secular principle. The cases pertaining the demotilitin should be expedited and the guilty published," said Mollah.
