New Delhi: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) is planning a massive nationwide protest on June 16 against the policies of Modi government and it's handling of COVID-19 pandemic.
The general secretary of the party, Sitaram Yechuri informed about the All India Action Call on Wednesday after the Polit Bureau meeting held on Tuesday.
The nationwide protest by all units of CPI (M) will be based on the four main demands which include DBT of 7500 to every non-taxpayer for 6 months, 10KG free of cost ration to every needy person through central schemes for 6 months, unemployment allowance for people who lost their jobs and roll back the decision of suspension of labour laws.
"Nearly 15 crore people have lost their jobs due to lockdown and now they have nothing to do, the government must give them some unemployment allowance so that they can survive," said Yechuri.
The leader yet again slammed the Modi government for its economic policies and suspension of labour laws by several state governments.

"This government is bringing in neoliberal economic reforms to pursue its agenda. The so-called financial package of 20 Lakh crore is nothing but a repackaging of what was announced earlier with an extra expenditure of a mere 1 per cent of the GDP. Such a financial stimulus is completely inadequate" said Sitaram Yechuri.
"In the process all the reforms of privatization of all public utilities, national assets or our public sector units of allowing foreign capital to come to every area of our economy including defence production, space travel and atomic energy..and in the process, an effort to abolish labour laws which are hard-earned rights of the working people. Modi government must realise that people of this country are not going to allow this" he added.
The leader also demanded that funds being collected through private trust in the name of PM Cares fund should be allocated among states.
"Thousands of crores are being collected through a private trust in the name of PM and nobody knows where this money is going as there is no auditing or accountability. These funds must be provided to the states to help them fight the pandemic" said Yechuri.
With opposition parties trying to mobilize their forces against the Modi government, massive protests are likely to take place in upcoming days. The CPI (M) leader also said that the protests will be held in accordance with the guidelines of lockdown and physical distancing norms will be taken care of.
