Hyderabad: With a fresh spike of 50,210 coronavirus infections and 704 deaths in 24 hours, India's tally on Wednesday rose to 83,64,086, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Out of the total Covid-19 cases in the country, 5,27,962 are currently active, 77,11,809 have been discharged, and 1,24,315 lost the battle against the pandemic.

While the recovery rate stands at 92.09 per cent, the fatality rate is 1.49 per cent, the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare showed.

Delhi

New Delhi: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the coronavirus situation in the city has worsened due to the festive season and pollution after reviewing the national capital's coronavirus situation with officials. The AAP leader has decided to ban firecrackers and ramp up medical infrastructure

Delhi recorded a single-day spike of 6,842 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, the highest so far, taking the total Delhi tally to 4,09,938.

Maharashtra

Mumbai: Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit with a total of 16,98,198 cases, including 44,548 deaths; followed by Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

The Maharashtra government has allowed Cinema halls to reopen outside containment zones from Thursday with 50 percent of seating capacity and no eatables will be allowed inside. In an order issued on Wednesday, it said cinema halls, drama theatres, multiplexes, swimming pools and yoga institutes will be allowed to function outside containment zones.

Rajasthan

Dausa: About 107 inmates have tested positives in Dausa's Shylawas jail, while the report of 130 prisoners is yet to come. Prison staff is also being tested along with other prisoners. On Thursday, 28 detainees were reported to be corona positive. In view of the ever-increasing corona infection in the jail, Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr BK Bajaj also reached Central Jail and took stock of the arrangements. He instructed the corona infected prisoners to be isolated separately.

Tamil Nadu

Chennai: Tamil Nadu reported 2348 new coronavirus infections taking the state's tally to 736777. The death toll is currently at 11272 after 28 new fatalities. There are 19061 active cases in the state currently.

Jharkhand

Ranchi: Three hundred and one more cases of the novel coronavirus were reported in Jharkhand on Wednesday.

As per the COVID-19 bulletin of the state, 505 people diagnosed with the virus were also discharged the same day.

The tally of the coronavirus cases in the state has reached 1,03,188, including 97,480 recoveries and 4,814 active cases. A total of 894 people have succumbed to the deadly pathogen so far.

As many as 3,503,516 samples have been tested for the virus in the state till Wednesday, according to the state health department.
