Hyderabad: Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Sunday said that the ICMR’s nationwide serological survey showed that 'the Indian population still far from achieving herd immunity'. Hence, all of us should continue following COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.
ICMR is actively investigating and researching reports of COVID-19 reinfection and although the number of reinfection cases is negligible at this moment, the government is fully seized of the importance of the matter, he added.
India's daily COVID-19 cases nudged upwards again with fresh infections crossing 89,000, the highest in a week. The daily tally of cases this week has so far stayed well below the numbers recorded last week, pointing to the possibility that the infection was past its peak, but the pandemic continues to surge in several states.
Delhi
New Delhi: Health Minister Satyendar Jain claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party government in the national capital has increased testing by three times to 60,000 tests a day, adding that this was the new strategy to combat the surge in coronavirus cases.
"Delhi has increased testing to 60,000 per day. This is a big change in our containment strategy. We have done this to ensure we can track every positive case and contain the spread of coronavirus; Delhi's doubling rate is 50 days," said Jain.
The statement comes a day after Delhi reported 46 - the highest since June 16 when the city recorded 93 deaths.
Bihar
Patna: An FIR has been registered against Bihar Congress president Madan Mohan Jha and several other senior party leaders for violating COVID norms at Patna airport, officials said on Sunday. They have been accused of violating COVID protocol by amassing a large number of people at the airport on Saturday when some party leaders were arriving in the Bihar capital to strategise for the upcoming assembly elections.
Karnataka
Bengaluru: Congress leader and state Legislative Assembly member Dinesh Gundu Rao tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Rao confirmed about his health on Twitter and said that he will quarantine himself for the next 10 days.
In a tweet, Rao said, "I have tested Corona positive today. Therefore will be quarantining myself for 10 days."
The former state Congress President has also urged the people, who have come in contact with him to get themselves tested for the deadly virus.
Uttarakhand
Dehradun: BJP leader Uma Bharti has tested positive for coronavirus. She tweeted about her diagnosis and urged all those who had come in contact with her to get tested for the virus.
The leader said she got tested because she was down with a mild fever for three days and was positive for the virus in spite of following all COVID-19 norms including social distancing over her recent trip to the Himalayas.
“I am currently quarantined at Vande Mataram Kunj that lies between Haridwar and Rishikesh. I will get another Covid-19 test done after four days and if the situation remains the same, will consult doctors,” Uma Bharti tweeted.
