Hyderabad: The National Task Force on COVID-19 and joint monitoring group (JMG) of the Health Ministry will decide whether the plasma therapy should be continued in the treatment of coronavirus infected patients in India, Professor (Dr.) Balram Bhargava, DG of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Tuesday. Dr Bhargava informed in context with the ICMR findings that revealed Convalescent Plasma (CP) therapy didn't help in reducing death due to the coronavirus in India. Also, Bhargava said that re-infection with coronavirus is very rare.
In India over 38.5 lakh persons have recovered from COVID-19, one of the highest in the world, Health Ministry said on Tuesday. The ministry has said that the country has consistently maintained a low and declining Case Fatality Rate (1.64 per cent) and it is far below the global average of 3.2 per cent and that of many other countries. The aim is to achieve a national CFR of less than one per cent.
Meanwhile, the Central government has made a provision under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan package for the frontline health workers fighting the Covid-19 battle. The scheme provides an insurance cover of Rs 50 lakh to the healthcare providers and community health workers, who may have to be in direct contact and care of Covid-19 patients and at risk of being impacted by this.
Delhi
The national capital recorded a surge of 3374 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday (September 15) taking the total tally to 2,21,533 as per the Ministry of Health data. Delhi is among the top five worst-hit state due to coronavirus in India. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19.
Maharashtra
As many as 371 Maharashtra police personnel tested positive for the novel coronavirus, while eight succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, the Maharashtra police informed in a press statement on Tuesday. So far, a total of 19,756 police officers have contracted the infection, out of which 202, including 20 officers, have died. While 15,830 policemen have recovered from the infection, 3,724 at present are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the state. Meanwhile, a total of 17,066 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Maharashtra on Monday taking the total count of cases in the state to 10,77,374.
Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh Congress MLA Govardhan Dangi died of coronavirus at a private hospital in Gurugram on Tuesday morning after a three-week battle with the virus. Dangi, an MLA from the Biaora constituency here, had himself tested for the novel coronavirus in mid-August after both his wife and son tested positive for the pathogen. Later, his COVID-19 test report also came positive, following which he was admitted to a Bhopal hospital.
Tamil Nadu
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President MK Stalin has demanded a white paper by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister over the COVID-19 pandemic. Stalin has demanded that Chief Minister Edappaddi K Palaniswami present a white paper during the current session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly. Tamil Nadu is one of the most severely affected States by the pandemic. It has 46,912 active cases, while 4,53, 165 patients have been cured and discharged so far in the state, according to the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday. 8,434 deaths have also been reported due to the disease in the state so far.
Jammu and Kashmir
Another 1,329 people tested positive in J&K on Tuesday as the total number of people infected with COVID-19 jumped to 56,654 in the Union territory. A statement issued by the information and public relations department said 1,329 people tested positive, 741 in Jammu division and 588 in Kashmir division. The total number of COVID cases is now 56,654 in J&K out of which 37,062 have completely recovered.
Rajasthan
Rajasthan has recorded as many as 799 new cases of COVID-19 and seven deaths till 10:30 am on Tuesday (September 15), the State Health Department informed. The State tally has reached 1,04,937 so far, including 17,468 active cases and 86,212 recoveries. A total of 1,257 people have died in the State after contracting the virus. Meanwhile, India's COVID-19 case tally crossed the 49-lakh mark today.The total case tally stands at 49,30,237 in the country including 9,90,061 active cases, 38,59,400 cured/discharged/migrated and 80,776 deaths.
Andhra Pradesh
As many as 300 inmates, lodged in the Rajahmundry central prison in East Godavari district, have recovered from coronavirus. "Prisoners numbering up to 300 have recovered from coronavirus," Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Coastal Andhra Range, I. Srinivasa Rao said. When 1,700 prisoners were tested for the virus, 300 emerged positive. As the government has instructed that intensive care be taken of positive inmates, the central prison arranged a special barrack for these 300 inmates. They were given a special diet and regular medical check-ups, including monitoring their comorbidities such as diabetes, blood pressure and others. Following the special care, all 300 inmates recovered from the virus.
Karnataka
Ahead of the Monsoon Session of the Karnataka Legislature from September 21, state Urban Development Minister Byrati Basavaraj tested Covid positive and was admitted to a private hospital in the city, an official said on Tuesday. Basavaraj defected from the Congress and was re-elected from the same constituency in the December 5 Assembly by-elections. He revolted against the 14-month JD(S)-Congress coalition government and resigned from the Assembly seat in July 2019.
Telangana
Telangana's Covid-19 tally crossed 1.60 lakh with the state adding 2,058 new cases in the last 24 hours, health officials said on Tuesday. With 1,60,571 cases, Telangana overtook Bihar to have the eighth highest numbers in the country. 10 more people succumbed to the disease, taking the death toll in the state to 984. The case fatality rate in the state stands at 0.61 per cent against the national average of 1.64 per cent. The state saw more recoveries than new cases during the last 24 hours ending 8 p.m. Monday. With 2,180 more patients recovering from the virus, the total number of recoveries mounted to 1,29,187.
