Hyderabad: The World Health Organization does not expect widespread vaccinations against COVID-19 until the middle of next year, a spokeswoman said on Friday, stressing the importance of rigorous checks on their effectiveness and safety.
None of the candidate vaccines in advanced clinical trials so far has demonstrated a "clear signal" of efficacy at the level of at least 50% sought by the WHO, spokeswoman Margaret Harris said.
So far, India has recorded 39,36,747 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 68,472 deaths.
However, infections are rising rapidly, India's recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 77.1 per cent.
Rajasthan
Jaipur: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot wished a speedy recovery to Rajasthan Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Satish Poonia after the latter tested positive for the coronavirus.
Satish Poonia on Friday took to Twitter to inform that he has tested positive for coronavirus.
"Yesterday, my coronavirus test was conducted after I returned home. Even as there were no symptoms, my test report has come as positive, and have been advised by the doctors to stay in isolation. I request all who came in contact with me in the last few days, to get tested. Thanks for the support," Poonia said in his tweet.
Meanwhile, as many as 13 policemen have been tested positive at the Keshavaraipatan police station in Bundi district.
Jharkhand
Ranchi: A three-member central team led by Dr Purnima Tiwari reached Ranchi on Friday to take stock of the COVID-19 situation in Jharkhand, which has witnessed a surge in novel coronavirus cases. The team will be visiting Ranchi, Dhanbad and Jamshedpur.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Dr Tiwari said that the Center has sent them to survey three districts of the state.
"First we will have a meeting with the State Health Department, following which the preparedness for COVID in the state will be reviewed," he said.
Uttarakhand
Dehradun: As the COVID-19 situation continues to be fragile and the threat is still far from over, Dehradun District Magistrate, Ashish Srivastava has barred the entry of common man in DM office and its associated offices from September 7 till further orders. In case of emergency, letters can be sent to the issued email ID.
Apart from this, letters can be kept in a box outside the disaster control room, which will be opened after three days.
Meanwhile, With 946 fresh cases, the state reported its biggest single-day jump in cases since the first case was reported in the state on March 15.
