India's Covid-19 tally crosses the 26-lakh barrier on Monday. As per the latest health ministry numbers, deaths due to the coronavirus are now 50,921. Globally, the virus has taken over 7 lakh lives. Meanwhile, some hospitals in the national capital have said they are seeing recovered coronavirus patients returning to them with recurrence of the infection.

Hyderabad: India’s Covid-19 recoveries have reached closer to 2 million, while the actual caseload of the country stands at 6,76,900 on the date and currently comprises only 25.57 per cent of the total positive cases. This difference between the recovered and the active cases continues to expand and now stands at 12,42,942. The recovery rate is 72.51 per cent at present.

Delhi

New Delhi: In what comes as a huge sigh of relief for the Delhiites, Delhi Chief Minister’s Office on Monday announced that there has been an 80 per cent decrease in the COVID-19 related deaths in the month of July in the national capital.

While the corona situation has improved significantly in Delhi, people across cities and states in India have hailed the Delhi model for the improvement. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has credited the success of the Delhi model to the unity and collective action of the people of Delhi.

The Capital added 652 new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday, the fewest fresh infections in the city since July 27, according to the health bulletin released by the Delhi government.

Some hospitals in the national capital have said they are seeing recovered coronavirus patients returning to them with recurrence of the infection.

Earlier this month, the Delhi government-run Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital saw two instances of patients with relapse of coronavirus, almost one-and-a-half months after they were cured of the infection. In both the instances of relapse, the patients had moderate symptoms.

Maharashtra

Mumbai: Pune, the academic and cultural capital of Maharashtra, on Sunday emerged as India’s new "corona capital" after it recorded the maximum COVID-19 cases, a report said on Sunday. Earlier, it was Maharashtra’s capital Mumbai which had the highest number of coronavirus cases.

A serosurvey jointly carried put by IISER, PMC and the Pune University has found a seroprevalence of 51.5 per cent in five high-incidence administrative zones of the Pune Municipal Corporation.

Four persons at NCP chief Sharad Pawar's residence in south Mumbai have tested positive for coronavirus, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said on Monday.

Punjab

Chandigarh: In the wake of rising Covid-19 cases, Punjab Government today imposed additional restrictions in Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Patiala from August 18 to till further orders.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the Punjab Government said that on account of the sudden rise in COVID-19 cases in urban areas, it was felt necessary to impose additional restrictions on certain activities in all the cities of the State.

Jharkhand

Ranchi: The Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta said that the license of private hospitals can be cancelled if they exploit patients in the name of treatment of Covid 19.

As many as 17 inmates of Dhanbad Divisional Jail in Jharkhand have tested positive for novel coronavirus.

Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has ramped up COVID-19 testing to more than 50,000 tests per day. On 16th August, Odisha was positioned at No.4 in the country with 50,421 tests. In terms of tests per million per day, Odisha was leading the country with 1,096 tests per million per day, among the large States category. The national average was 542 tests per million per day.

Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: All Uttar Pradesh legislators will have to undergo antigen tests for the confirmation of Covid-19 before they participate in the upcoming monsoon session of the state legislature that begins on August 20. The state is already witnessing a spurt in COVID cases and two UP ministers - Chetan Chauhan and Kamal Rani Varun - have succumbed to the deadly virus this month.

Bihar

Patna: Bihar government on Monday decided to extend the lockdown due to coronavirus in Bihar till September 6. The state home department issued a notification saying that the restrictions will remain in force in the state, imposing further restrictions will remain effective till September 6.

One doctor and 21 other coronavirus patients died in Bihar on Sunday. Altogether 20 doctors have died of Covid-19 infection in the state so far. The 40-year-old Dr Anand Shankar, an orthopaedic surgeon posted at Chhapra Sadar Hospital. He died at AIIMS-Patna.

Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh reported its highest single-day spike of 1,022 coronavirus cases on Sunday, pushing the state's overall count to 45,455, state health officials said.

The death toll rose to 1,105 as 11 patients succumbed to the infection, the officials said. Of the new cases, the highest number of 214 was reported in Indore, followed by 126 in Jabalpur, 123 in Bhopal and 65 in Gwalior.
