Covid-19 lockdown: 175 Gujarati nationals arrive in India from Dubai in private jet

After failing to get help under the Centre's Vande Bharat Mission, as many as 175 Gujarati nationals booked a private jet and arrived in India from Dubai on Saturday. Out of these 175, 40 people are from Surat.

Gujarat: As many as 175 Gujarati nationals arrived in India from Dubai on Saturday in a private jet booked by them after failing to get help under the Centre's Vande Bharat Mission.

Out of these 175, 40 people are from Surat.

“Close to 2,75,000 Indians, who were stranded in foreign countries, have been brought back to the country in flights and ships during the lockdown,” said Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Saturday while addressing a press conference.

Puri also announced that the Ministry has allowed Indian airlines to operate over 1,000 flights under the two phases (3 & 4) of the Vande Bharat Mission to repatriate more Indians.

The Vande Bharat Mission is the government of India’s initiative to bring back Indian nationals stranded in various parts of the world due to restrictions over air travel to contain Covid-19 spread.

The exercise began on May 7 and its second phase started on May 16. The third phase, which began on June 11, will continue till June 30.
