Uttar Pradesh: Pratapgarh ADM tests COVID-19 positive
Pratapgarh (UP): The additional district magistrate of Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, an official said.
He has been admitted to the isolation ward of the district hospital, Chief Medical Officer Dr AK Shrivastava said.
"The officer's sample was taken and his test report came positive on Sunday," Shrivastava said.

Haryana BJP MLA tests positive for coronavirus
Kurukshetra: A BJP legislator in Haryana tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, his aide said.
The MLA from Thanesar in Kurukshetra district, Subhash Sudha, was running high fever for a few days and was taken to a private hospital in Gurgaon on Saturday.
His test report came positive on Sunday, said Sudha's personal assistant Arun Gulati.
Sudha's family members have been quarantined and an exercise was on to trace those with whom the legislator may have come into contact during the past few days.
Out of the total 13,829 coronavirus cases in Haryana and 223 fatalities, Kurukshetra district has 115 cases with no fatality.

5 more die of coronavirus in Punjab as 161 new cases take tally to 5,216
Chandigarh: Five more people succumbed to coronavirus in Punjab on Sunday as 161 fresh cases surfaced, taking the number of infections to 5,216 and death toll to 133 in the state, a medical bulletin said.
One fatality each was reported from Amritsar, Pathankot, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur.
Forty-five cases were detected in Sangrur; 39 in Ludhiana; 19 in Jalandhar; 12 in Amritsar; eight each in Mohali and Gurdaspur; six in Patiala; four each in Pathankot and Fatehgarh Sahib; three each in Hoshiarpur, Ferozepur and Kapurthala; two each in SBS Nagar and Faridkot; and one each in Tarn Taran, Muktsar and Fazilka.
Of them, five had returned from abroad while eight had travel history to other states.
As many as 206 coronavirus patients were discharged from various hospitals after they recovered from the infection. A total of 3,526 people have been cured of the infection so far, as per the bulletin.
There are 1,557 active cases in the state as of now, the bulletin said.

Biggest single-day spike of over 1,200 COVID-19 cases in Karnataka
Bengaluru: Karnataka on Sunday recorded the largest single-day spike of more than 1,200 new coronavirus cases and 16 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 13,190, the health department said.
The day also saw 220 patients getting discharged after recovery; even as 243 patients in the state were undergoing treatment at the ICU.
Out of 1,267 fresh cases reported on Sunday, a whopping 783 cases were from Bengaluru urban alone.
The previous biggest single-day spike was recorded on June 27 with 918 cases.
As of June 28 evening, cumulatively 13,190 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 207 deaths and 7,507 discharges, the health department said in its bulletin.

Gujarat's COVID-19 cases rise by 624 to 31,397; 19 more die
Ahmedabad: Gujarat on Sunday reported the highest single-day rise of 624 new coronavirus cases, taking the total case count to 31,397, state Health department said.
With 19 more people succumbing to the infection, the death toll in the state has risen to 1,809.
A total of 391 patients were discharged in the day, taking the number of the recovered cases to 22,808, it said.
The number of active cases in the state now stands at 6,780 while the condition of 19 patients is critical, as per the Health department.

Five more COVID-19 deaths in Haryana, 402 fresh cases
Chandigarh: Haryana on Sunday reported five more deaths due to COVID-19, while total infections in the state rose to 13,829 with 402 fresh cases, the state health department's daily bulletin said.
All the five fatalities were reported from Gurgaon, Faridabad and Sonipat, falling in the National Capital Region, which are the three worst-hit districts in terms of the total number of novel coronavirus cases and deaths.
While Faridabad and Sonipat reported two deaths each, one person died in Gurgaon, it said.
COVID-19 fatalities in Haryana on Sunday rose to 223.
Gurgaon, Faridabad and Sonipat now have a total of 84, 73 and 18 fatalities, respectively, it said.
A total of 5,158, 3,456 and 1,195 cases, respectively, were reported in these three districts, according to the bulletin.

Dehradun: Uttarakhand recorded 32 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday, taking the state's tally to 2,823, while one more fatality pushed the death toll due to the disease to 38, according to a health department bulletin.

Bengal reports highest single-day spike of 572 COVID-19 cases; tally crosses 17,000-mark
Kolkata: West Bengal on Sunday registered its highest single-day spike of 572 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 17,283, while the toll mounted to 639 with 10 more deaths, a health department bulletin said.
Kolkata reported seven fatalities and Howrah, Purba Burdwan and Murshidabad one each, it said, adding that all the patients died due to comorbidities where COVID-19 was incidental.
The number of people who have recovered from the disease reached 11,193 on Sunday after 404 patients were discharged from different hospitals.

Kerala virus tally at 4,189; 2 docs, 3 health staff infected
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala's COVID-19 tally touched 4,189 on Sunday with 118 new cases with two doctors and three health workers among those who tested positive on Sunday while over 1.73 lakh people are under observation.
At least, 2,015 people are under treatment for the infection, while 2,150 have recovered, including 42 discharged during the day.
Giving the district wise break-up of the infected, Health Minister K K Shailaja said Kannur reported 26 cases, Thrissur 17, Kollam and Alappuzha 10 cases each, Thiruvananthapuram nine, Ernakulam and Kozhikode Seven, Kasaragod six, Kottayam, Malappuram and Wayanad five cases each and Idukki and Palakkad four each while Pathanamthitta saw three.
Among the positive cases during the day, 68 had returned from abroad and 36 from other states, the Minister said in a press release here.

New Delhi: Delhi recorded 2,889 fresh coronavirus cases on Sunday, taking the tally in the city over the 83,000-mark, while the death toll from the disease mounted to 2,623,authorities said.
On June 23, the national capital had reported the highest single-day spike of 3,947, cases till date.
Recently, Delhi had eclipsed Mumbai as the city worst-hit by the pandemic in the country.

TN reports highest single day spike of 3,940 new COVID-19 cases; overall tally breaches 82,000 mark
Chennai: Tamil Nadu on Sunday reported a record single day spike of 3,940 new coronavirus cases taking the overall tally in the state to 82,275, the Health department said.
The toll in the state went up to 1,079 with 54 deaths being reported today.
The total number of positive cases in the state climbed to 82,275 while those discharged went up to 45,537 with 1,443 people recovering after treatment, a bulletin from the Health department said.
Chennai accounted for 1,992 cases of the total infections reported today.
The number of active cases was at 35,656 cases, the bulletin said.

UP records 11 more COVID-19 deaths, total cases rise to 22,147
Lucknow: The death toll due to coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh reached 660 with 11 more fatalities, while the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state climbed to 22,147 after 606 fresh infections were reported, Additional Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said on Sunday.
There are 6,679 active cases in the state and a total of 14,808 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovering from the disease, Prasad said.
"So far, 660 COVID-19 deaths have been reported from the state. The count of fresh cases in UP is 606," he said while briefing reporters.
The recovery percentage of the state is 66.86 per cent of the total cases, the additional chief secretary said.
Prasad said surveillance has been done in 23,604 areas till now, including 8,942 hotspots.

Bihar minister, wife test positive for COVID-19
Katihar: Bihar's Backward and Extremely Backward Classes Welfare Minister Vinod Kumar Singh and his wife tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday and were sent to an isolation ward at a city hotel in Katihar district, officials said.
Katihar District Magistrate Kanwal Tanuj confirmed that both the minister and his wife have tested positive for the pathogen.
The couple has been kept at an isolation ward created at a city hotel here, the DM said.

With near 20K spike, India's corona tally reaches 5.28 lakh
While the total number of COVID-19 cases in the world is close to crossing the ten million mark as per the John Hopkins University, India on Sunday witnessed a spike of 19,906 cases in last 24 hours, bringing the total tally to 5,28,859, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
India continued to be the fourth worst hit among 213 countries, with 2,03,051 active cases and 16,095 deaths. A total of 3,09,712 persons has recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

COVID-19 LIVE: With over 13,000 COVID cases, Telangana overtakes MP, Haryana
Hyderabad: With the highest single-day jump of 1,087 Covid-19 cases on Saturday, Telangana's tally crossed 13,000, overtaking Madhya Pradesh and Haryana.
With 13,436 cases, Telangana has now climbed to the eighth position in the list of states with most cases.
This is the first time since the outbreak of Covid-19 that the single-day jump crossed 1,000 mark. The state, which reported 985 cases on Friday, has been witnessing a massive surge for the last few days, reaching a new high every day.
Saturday also saw six fatalities, pushing the death toll to 243.
According to the director of public health and family welfare, 3,923 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. On Friday, 4,374 samples were tested. The cumulative number of tests rose to 79,231.
The official said 162 patients were discharged on Saturday, taking the total of recoveries to 4,928.
Of the fresh cases, 888 were reported in Greater Hyderabad, the biggest hotspot. Ranga Reddy and Medchal districts bordering Greater Hyderabad reported 74 and 37 cases.
Indicating the spread in other parts of the state as well, Nalgonda reported 35 new cases and Sangareddy district 11 cases.
Meanwhile, the Health Department has blamed private laboratories conducting Covid-19 tests for a big jump in positive cases and threatened to suspend their operations if they failed to rectify the gaps in 48 hours.
The expert committee constituted by it observed that certain labs are not following the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
"There have been discrepancies in data pertaining to the number of tests conducted, positives reported and portal updation. The quality of testing has also been compromised. Certain labs are reporting close to 70 per cent positivity rate which clearly denotes huge errors in the testing methodology," the department said.
The expert committee has examined and scrutinised all parameters in the labs concerned in a very elaborate and robust manner. The laboratories have been directed to rectify all gaps within a period of 48 hours failing which their operations shall be suspended.
Health Minister E. Rajender said a door-to-door survey would be undertaken to identify those with Covid-19 symptoms.
The minister, who reviewed the situation at a high-level meeting, said with the change of season, many people were suffering from cold, fever and cough and since these are the symptoms of Covid-19, people were scared.
Rajender discussed with officials the measures required to be taken to check the spread in Greater Hyderabad.
He said those with coronavirus symptoms should undergo the test in identified government hospitals.

Gujarat's COVID-19 cases rise by 624 to 31,397; 19 more die
Ahmedabad: Gujarat on Sunday reported the highest single-day rise of 624 new coronavirus cases, taking the total case count to 31,397, state Health department said.
With 19 more people succumbing to the infection, the death toll in the state has risen to 1,809.
A total of 391 patients were discharged in the day, taking the number of the recovered cases to 22,808, it said.
The number of active cases in the state now stands at 6,780 while the condition of 19 patients is critical, as per the Health department.

Five more COVID-19 deaths in Haryana, 402 fresh cases
Chandigarh: Haryana on Sunday reported five more deaths due to COVID-19, while total infections in the state rose to 13,829 with 402 fresh cases, the state health department's daily bulletin said.
All the five fatalities were reported from Gurgaon, Faridabad and Sonipat, falling in the National Capital Region, which are the three worst-hit districts in terms of the total number of novel coronavirus cases and deaths.
While Faridabad and Sonipat reported two deaths each, one person died in Gurgaon, it said.
COVID-19 fatalities in Haryana on Sunday rose to 223.
Gurgaon, Faridabad and Sonipat now have a total of 84, 73 and 18 fatalities, respectively, it said.
A total of 5,158, 3,456 and 1,195 cases, respectively, were reported in these three districts, according to the bulletin.

U'khand records 32 fresh COVID-19 cases, one more death
Dehradun: Uttarakhand recorded 32 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday, taking the state's tally to 2,823, while one more fatality pushed the death toll due to the disease to 38, according to a health department bulletin.
The death was reported from Nainital district, which also reported the highest number of fresh cases at 14, the bulletin said.

Maharashtra reported the biggest single-day spike of 5,493 COVID-19 cases so far on Sunday, which took the tally of patients in the state to 1,64,626, a health official said.

Bengal reports highest single-day spike of 572 COVID-19 cases; tally crosses 17,000-mark
Kolkata: West Bengal on Sunday registered its highest single-day spike of 572 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 17,283, while the toll mounted to 639 with 10 more deaths, a health department bulletin said.
Kolkata reported seven fatalities and Howrah, Purba Burdwan and Murshidabad one each, it said, adding that all the patients died due to comorbidities where COVID-19 was incidental.
The number of people who have recovered from the disease reached 11,193 on Sunday after 404 patients were discharged from different hospitals.
The state now has 5,451 active COVID-19 cases, the health bulletin added.

Kerala virus tally at 4,189; 2 docs, 3 health staff infected
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala's COVID-19 tally touched 4,189 on Sunday with 118 new cases with two doctors and three health workers among those who tested positive on Sunday while over 1.73 lakh people are under observation.
At least, 2,015 people are under treatment for the infection, while 2,150 have recovered, including 42 discharged during the day.
Giving the district wise break-up of the infected, Health Minister K K Shailaja said Kannur reported 26 cases, Thrissur 17, Kollam and Alappuzha 10 cases each, Thiruvananthapuram nine, Ernakulam and Kozhikode Seven, Kasaragod six, Kottayam, Malappuram and Wayanad five cases each and Idukki and Palakkad four each while Pathanamthitta saw three.
Among the positive cases during the day, 68 had returned from abroad and 36 from other states, the Minister said in a press release here.

28 new COVID-19 cases in Nagaland; tally rises to 415
Kohima: Nagaland reported 28 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, taking the northeast state's tally to 415, Health and Family Welfare Minister S Pangnyu Phom said.
Of the total 415 cases, 251 are active as 164 people have recovered from the deadly virus.

2,889 fresh COVID cases in Delhi take tally to over 83K; death toll climbs to 2,623
New Delhi: Delhi recorded 2,889 fresh coronavirus cases on Sunday, taking the tally in the city over the 83,000-mark, while the death toll from the disease mounted to 2,623,authorities said.
On June 23, the national capital had reported the highest single-day spike of 3,947, cases till date.
Recently, Delhi had eclipsed Mumbai as the city worst-hit by the pandemic in the country.
Sixty-five fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, the Delhi health department bulletin said on Sunday.

TN reports highest single day spike of 3,940 new COVID-19 cases; overall tally breaches 82,000 mark
Chennai: Tamil Nadu on Sunday reported a record single day spike of 3,940 new coronavirus cases taking the overall tally in the state to 82,275, the Health department said.
The toll in the state went up to 1,079 with 54 deaths being reported today.
The total number of positive cases in the state climbed to 82,275 while those discharged went up to 45,537 with 1,443 people recovering after treatment, a bulletin from the Health department said.
Chennai accounted for 1,992 cases of the total infections reported today.
The number of active cases was at 35,656 cases, the bulletin said.

UP records 11 more COVID-19 deaths, total cases rise to 22,147
Lucknow: The death toll due to coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh reached 660 with 11 more fatalities, while the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state climbed to 22,147 after 606 fresh infections were reported, Additional Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said on Sunday.
There are 6,679 active cases in the state and a total of 14,808 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovering from the disease, Prasad said.
"So far, 660 COVID-19 deaths have been reported from the state. The count of fresh cases in UP is 606," he said while briefing reporters.
The recovery percentage of the state is 66.86 per cent of the total cases, the additional chief secretary said.
Prasad said surveillance has been done in 23,604 areas till now, including 8,942 hotspots.

Bihar minister, wife test positive for COVID-19
Katihar: Bihar's Backward and Extremely Backward Classes Welfare Minister Vinod Kumar Singh and his wife tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday and were sent to an isolation ward at a city hotel in Katihar district, officials said.
Katihar District Magistrate Kanwal Tanuj confirmed that both the minister and his wife have tested positive for the pathogen.
The couple has been kept at an isolation ward created at a city hotel here, the DM said.
Singh, who is a BJP legislator from Pranpur, said his samples were tested in Patna and he returned to Katihar from the state capital on Sunday.

LNJP doctor dies of COVID-19 in pvt hospital
New Delhi: A doctor of the city government-run LNJP Hospital died of COVID-19 in the ICU of a private dedicated coronavirus facility here on Sunday, sources said.
The doctor, a consultant anaesthesiologist, died in the morning, they added.

With near 20K spike, India's corona tally reaches 5.28 lakh
While the total number of COVID-19 cases in the world is close to crossing the ten million mark as per the John Hopkins University, India on Sunday witnessed a spike of 19,906 cases in last 24 hours, bringing the total tally to 5,28,859, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
India continued to be the fourth worst hit among 213 countries, with 2,03,051 active cases and 16,095 deaths. A total of 3,09,712 persons has recovered and been discharged from hospitals.
According to the Health Ministry data, 410 deaths were recorded in a day taking the COVID-19 death toll to 16,095.
With a spike of 6,368 cases, Maharashtra remained the worst hit state in the country. The state has a total of 1,59,133 cases, including 7,273 deaths.

1,009 of 1,196 corona cases in Agra discharged after recovery
A recovery rate of 84.04 per cent from COVID-19 in Agra has been achieved after a multi-pronged attack on the virus, with a sustained focus on over 60 containment and buffer zones, health officials here have said.

COVID-19 LIVE: With over 13,000 COVID cases, Telangana overtakes MP, Haryana
Hyderabad: With the highest single-day jump of 1,087 Covid-19 cases on Saturday, Telangana's tally crossed 13,000, overtaking Madhya Pradesh and Haryana.
With 13,436 cases, Telangana has now climbed to the eighth position in the list of states with most cases.
This is the first time since the outbreak of Covid-19 that the single-day jump crossed 1,000 mark. The state, which reported 985 cases on Friday, has been witnessing a massive surge for the last few days, reaching a new high every day.
Saturday also saw six fatalities, pushing the death toll to 243.
According to the director of public health and family welfare, 3,923 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. On Friday, 4,374 samples were tested. The cumulative number of tests rose to 79,231.
The official said 162 patients were discharged on Saturday, taking the total of recoveries to 4,928.
Of the fresh cases, 888 were reported in Greater Hyderabad, the biggest hotspot. Ranga Reddy and Medchal districts bordering Greater Hyderabad reported 74 and 37 cases.
Indicating the spread in other parts of the state as well, Nalgonda reported 35 new cases and Sangareddy district 11 cases.
Meanwhile, the Health Department has blamed private laboratories conducting Covid-19 tests for a big jump in positive cases and threatened to suspend their operations if they failed to rectify the gaps in 48 hours.
The expert committee constituted by it observed that certain labs are not following the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
"There have been discrepancies in data pertaining to the number of tests conducted, positives reported and portal updation. The quality of testing has also been compromised. Certain labs are reporting close to 70 per cent positivity rate which clearly denotes huge errors in the testing methodology," the department said.
The expert committee has examined and scrutinised all parameters in the labs concerned in a very elaborate and robust manner. The laboratories have been directed to rectify all gaps within a period of 48 hours failing which their operations shall be suspended.
Health Minister E. Rajender said a door-to-door survey would be undertaken to identify those with Covid-19 symptoms.
The minister, who reviewed the situation at a high-level meeting, said with the change of season, many people were suffering from cold, fever and cough and since these are the symptoms of Covid-19, people were scared.
Rajender discussed with officials the measures required to be taken to check the spread in Greater Hyderabad.
He said those with coronavirus symptoms should undergo the test in identified government hospitals.
