14 more COVID-19 fatalities take death toll in J-K to 1,001; tally of cases 63,990

Fourteen more fatalities related to coronavirus infection in a day took the death toll in Jammu and Kashmir past the 1,000-mark, while 1,457 fresh cases pushed the COVID-19 tally to 63,990 on Sunday, officials said.

Of the fresh deaths, nine were reported from Jammu and five from the Valley. The total number of fatalities has increased to 1,001, they said, adding Jammu region has recorded 817 fresh COVID-19 cases in a day and the Kashmir Valley 640.

Officials said it was the 18th consecutive day that the Union Territory recorded more than 1,000 fresh cases in a day.

Jammu district reported the highest 266 new cases, followed by 228 in Srinagar district, they said.

There are 22,032 active cases of (COVD-19) in Jammu and Kashmir, while 40,957 patients have recovered so far, officials said.

Ahead of monsoon session, U'khand assembly speaker tests COVID positive

Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker Premchand Aggarwal tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday ahead of a one-day session of the House on September 23.

Aggarwal in a tweet said he had undergone an RT-PCR test at his residence and his report came out positive. He advised people who had come in his contact to get themselves tested.

The business advisory committee of the state assembly at a meeting chaired by Deputy Speaker Raghunath Singh decided to hold a one-day session of the state assembly here on September 23 and dispense with the Question Hour.

However, issues of public interest will be raised in the House through adjournment motion, Singh, who chaired the meeting, said.

Kolkata intelligence chief IPS officer Muralidhar Sharma infected with COVID-19

Murlidhar Sharma, the intelligence chief of Kolkata police has tested positive for coronavirus. He is currently undergoing treatment at home. Sharma told ETV India that he felt ill this week. His swab sample was tested last Friday. Yesterday that report came positive. With him, three other top officials of the Calcutta Police received a positive report.

UP records 94 more COVID-19 deaths, 5,809 new cases

The death toll from COVID-19 crossed the 5,000-mark in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday with 94 more fatalities while 5,809 fresh cases pushed the infection tally to 3,54,275, officials said.

The new deaths brought the fatality count to 5,047 in the state, while the number of active COVID-19 cases stands at 65,954, they said.

Briefing reporters here on Sunday, Additional Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said 5,809 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported in the state.

India's single-day recoveries surpass fresh cases as 94,612 people recuperate

India's single-day recoveries surpassed the number of new infections for the second consecutive day on Sunday, with 94,612 people having recuperated from COVID-19, even as the total caseload sprinted past 54 lakh, according to the Union Health Ministry's data.

A total of 94,612 people recovered from coronavirus in a span of 24 hours, taking the national recovery rate to 79.68 per cent, while92,605people tested positive for the disease during the period, taking the total COVID-19 cases to 54,00,619.

The death toll climbed to86,752 with the virus claiming 1,133 lives in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The total COVID-19 recoveries have surged to43,03,043.

The COVID-19casefatality rate was recorded at 1.61 per cent.

There are10,10,824 active cases in the country which comprises 18.72 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and it went past 50 lakh on September 16.

According to ICMR, a cumulative total of 6,36,61,060 samples have been tested up to September 19 with 12,06,806 samples being tested on Saturday.

Odisha records highest 1-day spike of 4,330 cases

Odisha has reported 4,330 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day spike so far taking the state's total tally to 1,79,880, said a state health official on Sunday.

The Covid-19 death toll increased to 701 in the state with 10 new fatalities in the last 24 hours.

While Cuttack and Puri districts reported two deaths each, one each died in Balangir, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Khordha, Mayurbhanj and Sambalpur districts, the official said.

Of the total fresh cases, 2,556 have been reported from different quarantine centres while 1,774 were local contacts.

Khordha district recorded the highest 644 fresh cases followed by Cuttack (549) and Puri (292).

The number of active cases in the state rose to 37,469 and 1,41,657 patients have recovered so far.

Telangana logs 2,137 cases; Tally rises to 1.71 lakh

Telangana reported 2,137 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total infection count to 1,71,306 while eight more deaths pushed the toll to 1,033, a
government bulletin said on Sunday.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of fresh cases with 322, followed by Rangareddy (182) and Medchal Malkajgiri (146) districts, it said, providing data as of 8 PM on Saturday.

The cumulative recovered cases stood at 1,39,700, while 30,573 were presently under treatment across the state.

As many as 53,811 samples were tested on September 19, taking the total specimens examined so far to 24,88,220.

The samples tested per million population was 67,020, the bulletin said.

The case fatality rate (CFR) in the state stood at 0.60 per cent, while it was 1.60 per cent at the national level.

Telangana's recovery rate was 81.54 per cent against 79.65 per cent at the country level.

The number of individuals in home or institutional isolation was 24,019, the bulletin added

Record 12 lakh samples tested for COVID-19 in last 24 hours

India has tested a record 12 lakh samples for coronavirus in the last 24 hours, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday.

So far, as many as 6.37 crore samples have been tested across the country.

"India scales another peak. In last 24 hours, 12 lakh tests were conducted across the country which is an all-time record high. Total COVID-19 tests more than 6.37 crore," the Ministry tweeted.

Uttrakhand issues guidelines for inter-State movement of persons 

Uttrakhand Government has issued guidelines regarding the inter-State movement of persons in view of 'Unlock 4'.  

"District administration shall make arrangement for the thermal screening of all inbound persons at border check posts, airport, railway stations and border district bus stands," the guidelines issued by Uttarakhand government on Saturday read.

"If a person is found symptomatic then antigen test to be conducted by district administration. If the antigen test comes positive then appropriate SOP shall be followed. At all times in public premises, every person will follow norms of social distancing and wearing of masks," it read.  

According to the guidelines, registration is mandatory for all inbound persons on the Smart City web portal prior to their travel. All inbound people have to mandatorily download Aarogya Setu App. During registration, relevant documents as sought in the registration portal shall be uploaded.

Raipur to go under lockdown from September 21

Raipur district administration has announced to impose lockdown from 9 pm on September 21 till September 28 midnight in wake of daily new 900-1000 COVID-19 cases.

Raipur District Collector S Bhartidasan in a notice dated September 19, 2020, declared the district as a containment zone.

"Over 26,000 COVID-19 cases have been detected in Raipur so far and 900-1000 positive cases are detected daily. Hence, Raipur district has been declared as a containment zone," the notice said.

As per the order during the lockdown, "Grocery shops and all commercial shops will remain closed. The vegetable market to remain closed during this period while medical shops will remain open. LPG cylinder distributors will be allowed for home delivery.  Petrol pumps will remain open."

According to the order, all offices including government, semi-government, and private will remain closed.

The border of the district will be sealed.

"Inter-district border will remain sealed and e-pass will be required to move outside the district. Milk shops will be allowed to open from 06.00 am to 08.00 am in the morning and 05.00 pm to 06.30 pm in the evening. Liquor shops will remain closed. Industrial units will have to make on-site residential arrangements for their labours," the order said.

Violators will be punished under IPC 1860 and 188, the order stated

Assam's death toll climbs to 548, tally soars to 1,55,453

Eight more COVID-19 patients succumbed to the virus in Assam on Saturday, pushing the death toll to 548, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Himanta

Biswa Sarma said.

The state's coronavirus tally soared to 1,55,453 with 2,595 new cases, he said.

The deaths were reported from Majuli, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Kamrup Rural, Chirang and Goalpara districts, Sarma said.

The fresh cases include 553 from Kamrup Metropolitan, 205 from Jorhat, 199 from Lakhimpur and 173 from Golaghat.

38 deaths, 4,071 fresh virus cases in Delhi

Thirty-eight more people died from coronavirus in Delhi on Saturday as 4,071 fresh infections surfaced, pushing the number of cases to over 2.42 lakh in the city, according to a Health Department bulletin.

So far, the city has reported 4,945 deaths and 2,42,899 infections, the bulletin said, adding that the authorities conducted more than 61,000 tests the previous day.

The Saturday bulletin said the active cases tally on Saturday stood at 32,064.

The number of containment zones in Delhi jumped to 1,820 from 1,751 the previous day.

The number of tests conducted and corresponding fresh cases reported ranged from 24,198 (2312) on September 1 to 61,037 (4,071) on September 18.

The number of rapid antigen tests stood at 51,292 while the RT-PCR, CBNAAT and True NAAT tests figures were 10,681 in all, according to the Saturday bulletin.

The total number of tests stood at over 24.92 lakh.

J&K reports 1,492 new cases; tally at 62,533

As many as 1,492 more people tested coronavirus positive in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, taking the tally in the Union Territory to 62,533, health officials said.

As per the information and public relations department, 831 have tested positive from Jammu division and 661 from Kashmir division.

At least 21 patients succumbed to the disease, 14 from Jammu division and 7 from Kashmir division, pushing the toll to 987, officials added.

The number of active cases is 21,281 out of which 12,318 are from Jammu division and 8,963 are from Kashmir division.

K'taka Cong MLA Priyank Kharge tests positive  

Karnataka Congress legislator Priyank Kharge has tested positive for coronavirus and is at home isolation for treatment, a party official said on Saturday.

"Kharge took a COVID test on Friday and the result came out to be positive on Saturday. He has been advised home quarantine as he is asymptomatic," party spokesman Ravi Gowda said.

Priyank, 41, is a lawmaker from the Chittapur Assembly segment in Kalaburagi district in the state's northern region. He is the son of veteran Congress leader and newly-elected Rajya Sabha member Mallikarjun Kharge from the southern state.

"I have been tested positive for #COVID. I have no symptoms. Request to all those who had come in contact with me in the last couple of days to get themselves tested as a precautionary measure. Stay safe!" tweeted Priyank.

Highest single day spike takes Gujarat's tally to 1,21,930

Gujarat on Saturday reported 1,432 new Covid-19 cases, the highest in a day so far, taking the state's coronavirus tally to 1,21,930, while 16 deaths in the last 24 hours mounted the state's death toll to 3,305.

A total of 61,432 tests were conducted on Saturday, of which 1,432 returned positive.

Hotspot led the chart with 281 cases, followed by Ahmedabad (178), Rajkot (151), Vadodara (138), Jamnagar (126), Mahesana (69), Gandhinagar and Banaskantha (44 each), Bhavnagar (42), Junagadh (35), Panchmahals (30), Amreli (29), Morbi (28), Kutch (26), Bharuch (24), Patan (23), Mahisagar (16), Dahod and Gir-Somnath (15 each), Devbhumi Dwarka (14), Sabarkantha (13), Kheda, Narmada and Surendranagar (12 each), Anand and Tapi (10 each), Botad (9), Chhota Udepur and Navsari (8 each), Porbandar (5), Aravalli and Valsad (2 each) and Dang (1).

Gujarat has reported 25,495 COVID cases in September so far, an average of around 1,342 cases daily.

Of the 16 persons who succumbed to the dreaded virus in the last 24 hours, 5 were from Surat, 3 from Ahmedabad, 2 each from Bhavnagar and Vadodara, and 1 each from Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Kutch and Amreli.

Rajasthan imposes Section 144 of CrPC in 11 districts

Concerned over the rising number of coronavirus cases, the Rajasthan government on Saturday decided to impose Section 144 of the CrPC in 11 districts of the state. 

The state has 33 districts and the provision prohibits an assembly of more than five persons at a place. 

According to a release, the government also decided to continue the ban on social or religious functions till October 31. 

However, the permission for 20 people at funerals and 50 in marriage functions will continue. 

The decisions were taken in a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, the release said.

In view of alarming situation regarding coronavirus, it was decided to impose Section 144 of the CrPC in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Ajmer, Alwar, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Udaipur, Sikar, Pali and Nagaur, the release said. 

People will have to wear masks and follow social distancing norms.

Health Minister Raghu Sharma, Chief Secretary Rajeeva Swarup, Principal Secretary (Home) Abhay Kumar, Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) Akhil Arora and other officials were present in the meeting.

Hyderabad: The COVID-19 scare has reached the office of Telangana Health Minister Eatala Rajander as seven staff have tested positive for the virus.

Two drivers, three gunmen and two personal assistants of the minister have been found infected by coronavirus, sources in the minister's office said on Saturday.

Rajender also underwent COVID test but it turned out to be negative.

As a precautionary measure, the minister did not attend office and operated from his residence. Some other employees in the office also stayed away.

Health and municipal personnel took up sanitiSation of the minister's office at BRK Bhavan, which is serving as the temporary state secretariat.

This is the first time that staff members in the Health Minister's office have tested positive for Covid-19.

Earlier, employees in various departments in the BRK Bhavan were found infected.

During the recent state legislative session, members cutting across party lines had praised the Health Minister for his hard work and best efforts to tackle the pandemic.

Apart from holding regular review meetings with the officials, the minister personally visited government-run hospitals in Hyderabad and other towns and called on COVID patients.

Telangana has so far reported 1.69 lakh COVID cases and 1,025 deaths.

Raipur district administration has announced to impose lockdown from 9 pm on September 21 till September 28 midnight in wake of daily new 900-1000 COVID-19 cases.

Raipur District Collector S Bhartidasan in a notice dated September 19, 2020, declared the district as a containment zone.

"Over 26,000 COVID-19 cases have been detected in Raipur so far and 900-1000 positive cases are detected daily. Hence, Raipur district has been declared as a containment zone," the notice said.

As per the order during the lockdown, "Grocery shops and all commercial shops will remain closed. The vegetable market to remain closed during this period while medical shops will remain open. LPG cylinder distributors will be allowed for home delivery.  Petrol pumps will remain open."

According to the order, all offices including government, semi-government, and private will remain closed.

The border of the district will be sealed.

"Inter-district border will remain sealed and e-pass will be required to move outside the district. Milk shops will be allowed to open from 06.00 am to 08.00 am in the morning and 05.00 pm to 06.30 pm in the evening. Liquor shops will remain closed. Industrial units will have to make on-site residential arrangements for their labours," the order said.

Violators will be punished under IPC 1860 and 188, the order stated

Assam's death toll climbs to 548, tally soars to 1,55,453

Eight more COVID-19 patients succumbed to the virus in Assam on Saturday, pushing the death toll to 548, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Himanta

Biswa Sarma said.

The state's coronavirus tally soared to 1,55,453 with 2,595 new cases, he said.

The deaths were reported from Majuli, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Kamrup Rural, Chirang and Goalpara districts, Sarma said.

The fresh cases include 553 from Kamrup Metropolitan, 205 from Jorhat, 199 from Lakhimpur and 173 from Golaghat.

38 deaths, 4,071 fresh virus cases in Delhi

Thirty-eight more people died from coronavirus in Delhi on Saturday as 4,071 fresh infections surfaced, pushing the number of cases to over 2.42 lakh in the city, according to a Health Department bulletin.

So far, the city has reported 4,945 deaths and 2,42,899 infections, the bulletin said, adding that the authorities conducted more than 61,000 tests the previous day.

The Saturday bulletin said the active cases tally on Saturday stood at 32,064.

The number of containment zones in Delhi jumped to 1,820 from 1,751 the previous day.

The number of tests conducted and corresponding fresh cases reported ranged from 24,198 (2312) on September 1 to 61,037 (4,071) on September 18.

The number of rapid antigen tests stood at 51,292 while the RT-PCR, CBNAAT and True NAAT tests figures were 10,681 in all, according to the Saturday bulletin.

The total number of tests stood at over 24.92 lakh.

J&K reports 1,492 new cases; tally at 62,533

As many as 1,492 more people tested coronavirus positive in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, taking the tally in the Union Territory to 62,533, health officials said.

As per the information and public relations department, 831 have tested positive from Jammu division and 661 from Kashmir division.

At least 21 patients succumbed to the disease, 14 from Jammu division and 7 from Kashmir division, pushing the toll to 987, officials added.

The number of active cases is 21,281 out of which 12,318 are from Jammu division and 8,963 are from Kashmir division.

K'taka Cong MLA Priyank Kharge tests positive  

Karnataka Congress legislator Priyank Kharge has tested positive for coronavirus and is at home isolation for treatment, a party official said on Saturday.

"Kharge took a COVID test on Friday and the result came out to be positive on Saturday. He has been advised home quarantine as he is asymptomatic," party spokesman Ravi Gowda said.

Priyank, 41, is a lawmaker from the Chittapur Assembly segment in Kalaburagi district in the state's northern region. He is the son of veteran Congress leader and newly-elected Rajya Sabha member Mallikarjun Kharge from the southern state.

"I have been tested positive for #COVID. I have no symptoms. Request to all those who had come in contact with me in the last couple of days to get themselves tested as a precautionary measure. Stay safe!" tweeted Priyank.

Highest single day spike takes Gujarat's tally to 1,21,930

Gujarat on Saturday reported 1,432 new Covid-19 cases, the highest in a day so far, taking the state's coronavirus tally to 1,21,930, while 16 deaths in the last 24 hours mounted the state's death toll to 3,305.

A total of 61,432 tests were conducted on Saturday, of which 1,432 returned positive.

Hotspot led the chart with 281 cases, followed by Ahmedabad (178), Rajkot (151), Vadodara (138), Jamnagar (126), Mahesana (69), Gandhinagar and Banaskantha (44 each), Bhavnagar (42), Junagadh (35), Panchmahals (30), Amreli (29), Morbi (28), Kutch (26), Bharuch (24), Patan (23), Mahisagar (16), Dahod and Gir-Somnath (15 each), Devbhumi Dwarka (14), Sabarkantha (13), Kheda, Narmada and Surendranagar (12 each), Anand and Tapi (10 each), Botad (9), Chhota Udepur and Navsari (8 each), Porbandar (5), Aravalli and Valsad (2 each) and Dang (1).

Gujarat has reported 25,495 COVID cases in September so far, an average of around 1,342 cases daily.

Of the 16 persons who succumbed to the dreaded virus in the last 24 hours, 5 were from Surat, 3 from Ahmedabad, 2 each from Bhavnagar and Vadodara, and 1 each from Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Kutch and Amreli.

Rajasthan imposes Section 144 of CrPC in 11 districts

Concerned over the rising number of coronavirus cases, the Rajasthan government on Saturday decided to impose Section 144 of the CrPC in 11 districts of the state. 

The state has 33 districts and the provision prohibits an assembly of more than five persons at a place. 

According to a release, the government also decided to continue the ban on social or religious functions till October 31. 

However, the permission for 20 people at funerals and 50 in marriage functions will continue. 

The decisions were taken in a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, the release said.

In view of alarming situation regarding coronavirus, it was decided to impose Section 144 of the CrPC in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Ajmer, Alwar, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Udaipur, Sikar, Pali and Nagaur, the release said. 

People will have to wear masks and follow social distancing norms.

Health Minister Raghu Sharma, Chief Secretary Rajeeva Swarup, Principal Secretary (Home) Abhay Kumar, Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) Akhil Arora and other officials were present in the meeting.

Hyderabad: The COVID-19 scare has reached the office of Telangana Health Minister Eatala Rajander as seven staff have tested positive for the virus.

Two drivers, three gunmen and two personal assistants of the minister have been found infected by coronavirus, sources in the minister's office said on Saturday.

Rajender also underwent COVID test but it turned out to be negative.

As a precautionary measure, the minister did not attend office and operated from his residence. Some other employees in the office also stayed away.

Health and municipal personnel took up sanitiSation of the minister's office at BRK Bhavan, which is serving as the temporary state secretariat.

This is the first time that staff members in the Health Minister's office have tested positive for Covid-19.

Earlier, employees in various departments in the BRK Bhavan were found infected.

During the recent state legislative session, members cutting across party lines had praised the Health Minister for his hard work and best efforts to tackle the pandemic.

Apart from holding regular review meetings with the officials, the minister personally visited government-run hospitals in Hyderabad and other towns and called on COVID patients.

Telangana has so far reported 1.69 lakh COVID cases and 1,025 deaths.
