UP: Senior jail official tests COVID-19 positive

A senior jail official here has tested positive for COVID-19, an official said on Sunday.

"A DIG has tested positive for COVID-19, and his report came yesterday night. A random sampling of 59 personnel was done yesterday at the headquarters, of which the only one tested positive," Director General of Department of Prisons Administration and Reform Anand Kumar said.

He said the headquarters of the prisons' department has been sealed and sanitisation is going on.

We are going to test 100 more people on Monday and the rest on Tuesday, Anand said.

Seven COVID-19 deaths, 1,590 new cases in Telangana

 The number of COVID-19 cases in Telangana continued to rise with 1,590 fresh cases and seven deaths being reported on Sunday, pushing the tally of infections to 23,902. Out of the fresh cases, 1,277 were recorded from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), followed by 125 in Medchal district and 82 in Ranga Reddy district, a health department bulletin said.

A total of 1,166 people were discharged on Sunday, taking the total number of those cured to 12,703 so far after treatment, it said. The bulletin said 5,290 samples were tested taking the cumulative to 1.15 lakh.

Goa: Record 111 people discharged, 77 cases, 1 death on Sun

A record 111 people were discharged after recovery from COVID-19 in Goa on Sunday, while 77 new cases took the count to 1,761, and the death of a 72-year-old man pushed the toll to seven, an official said.

The man died in ESI Hospital, a designated COVID facility, in Margao, he added.

"At 111, Sunday saw the highest number of people getting discharged in a single day in Goa. During the day, 2,253 samples were tested, of which 77 returned positive, 1,812 negative and 364 reports are awaited," he said.

Goa's COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases: 1761, new cases: 77, deaths: 07, discharged: 936, active cases 818, Samples tested till date: 75,791.

Karnataka records 1,925 fresh COVID-19 cases

 Karnataka on Sunday witnessed its biggest single-day spike in coronavirus cases with 1,925 additions and 37 related fatalities, taking the aggregate in the state to 23,474, the health department said.

The total cases reported include 9,847 discharges and13,251 active cases, the department said in its bulletin adding that among the active cases, 243 are admitted to the Intensive Care Units.

Maha: 22 CRPF personnel test COVID-19 positive in Gadchiroli

A total of 22 CRPF personnel tested coronavirus positive on Sunday in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district, around 170 kms from here, an official said.

These men had rejoined duty a few days ago and were placed under institutional quarantine, where they were detected with the infection, he said. Around 350-400 CRPF troopers were on leave and began returning to their reporting stations in the last 20-25 days, Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police Shailesh Balkawde said.

"Personnel who return are kept in 14-day institutional quarantine and tested for coronavirus after seven to eight days from the date of their return. A total of 22 CRPF personnel tested positive on Sunday," he said.

Five more COVID-19 deaths in Haryana; cases breach 17,000-mark

Haryana on Sunday reported five more coronavirus deaths, as 457 fresh cases raised the state's caseload to 17,005.

Three fatalities were reported from Faridabad and one each from Gurgaon and Ambala districts, according to the state health department's daily bulletin.

Of the total 265 COVID-19 deaths in the state, 100 have been reported from hardest-hit Gurgaon, where total infections are close to 6,000.

The districts which reported fresh cases on Sunday include Faridabad (161), Gurgaon (120) cases, while 34, 12, 13, 16, 15, 18 cases were detected from Rewari, Sirsa, Jhajjar, Bhiwani, Karnal and Hisar respectively. Nineteen cases each came from Panipat and Kurukshetra districts, as per the bulletin.

The active cases in the state currently are 3,796. A total of 12,944 people have been discharged after recovery.

As many as 687 patients were discharged after recovery during the past 24 hours, the bulletin stated.

The state's COVID-19 recovery rate on Sunday was 76.12 per cent, it said

 Bengal registers highest one-day spike with 895 cases; 21 more die

West Bengal on Sunday registered the highest single-day spike of COVID-19 cases with 895 new infections, while the death toll due to the disease reached 757 after a record of 21 deaths, the health department said.

With the new cases, the state's infection tally reached 22,126.

The number of active cases rose to 6,658.

Since Saturday, 545 patients recovered from the disease in the state, the health department said in a bulletin.

31 more test positive for COVID-19 in Uttarakhand

Dehradun: Thirty-one more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Uttarakhand on Sunday, taking the tally in the state to 3,124, officials said.

Of the fresh cases, 12 are in Dehradun, seven in Nainital, four each in Udham Singh Nagar and Uttarkashi, and one case each was reported in Almora, Bageshwar, Haridwar and Pauri, a state Health department bulletin said.

Most of the cases have a travel history to Delhi, Mumbai or Gurgaon, it said.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 3,124, of which 2,524 have recovered and 42 patients have died, the bulletin said.

Twenty-eight COVID-19 patients have migrated out of the state and there are 530 active cases.

AP reports 998 fresh COVID-19 cases, overall tally rises to 18,697

 Andhra Pradesh recorded a new single-day high of 998 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday taking the overall tally to 18,697 even as the state crossed the one million mark in the number of samples tested. The state also saw 14 fresh coronavirus deaths, the highest in a day so far, taking the toll to 232, with a mortality rate of 1.24 per cent. The latest government bulletin said 391 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours, making it an overall 8,422 recoveries till date.

Kurnool, the district with the highest number of 2,451 confirmed cases so far, continued to record more COVID-19 fatalities as five were added in the last 24 hours.

With 81 coronavirus deaths, Kurnool topped the list in the state.

Anantapuramu recorded three casualties, Chittoor and Kadapa two each and Krishna and Visakhapatnam district one each on Sunday, according to the bulletin.

AIADMK MLA tests positive for COVID-19

Coimbatore: An AIADMK MLA from the city tested positive for Coronavirus on Sunday, becoming the fifth ruling party legislator to contract the virus.

He has been admitted to the Government ESI Hospital here, a health department official said. The daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter of the MLA were already undergoing treatment at the ESI hospital after contracting the infection, after their return from Madurai a couple of days ago.

He had undergone the test three days ago. Earlier, four ruling party MLAs, including Higher Education Minister K P Ambalavanan, had contracted the virus. Further, four DMK MLAs, including the deceased J Anbazhagan, had tested positive for COVID-19.

469 new corona cases in Odisha, total cases cross 9K-mark

Coronavirus cases crossed the 9,000-mark with detection of 469 more cases in Odisha even as two more casualties took the state's death toll to 36, the Health Department said on Sunday.

The two deaths were reported in the last 24 hours -- a 40-year-old male from Gajapati district and a 64-year-old male from Sundergarh district, who was also suffering from diabetes.

The corona cases in Odisha now total 9,070, including 3,090 active cases and 5,934 recoveries.

Of the new cases, 317 were detected in quarantine centres while 152 are local contact cases. Ganjam district reported the highest 116 cases.

With 82-yr-old man's death, Kerala Covid-19 toll reaches 25

An 82-year-old man, who arrived from Saudi Arabia last month and later admitted to the state-run Medical College hospital at Manjeri in Malappuram, died on Saturday late night, the authorities reported on Sunday.

However, the deceased's Covid-19 test report, which was received on Sunday morning, showed him positive for the infection.

The latest death has taken the corona death toll in Kerala to 25.

Health authorities reveal that the man was a blood cancer patient and he was admitted to the hospital on July 1 following high fever.

Following his death, the health officials had informed the family and now his last rites would be conducted according to the Covid-19 protocols.

4 Assam Rifles personnel, 10 NDRF staffers among 22 new COVID-19 cases in Mizoram

Twenty-two more people, including four Assam Rifles personnel and ten NDRF staffers, tested positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram, taking the state's tally to 186, an official said on Sunday.

Of the fresh cases, 14 were reported from Aizawl district and four each from Siaha and Lawngtlai, he said.

34 new COVID-19 cases reported from Maharashtra jails in last 24 hours

Prisons across Maharashtra reported 34 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The figure includes 31 inmates and three jail staff, informed the Maharashtra Prison Department on Sunday.

A total of 415 inmates and 162 jail staff have tested positive till July 4, while 281 inmates and 90 jail staff have recovered.

Four inmate deaths have been reported due to COVID-19.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state by the COVID-19 pandemic in the country with a total of 2,00,064 cases.

Out of the total cases, 83,311 are active cases and 1,08,082 have been cured/discharged. The death toll in the state stands at 8,671.

Goa councillor dies of coronavirus infection

A 72-year-old councillor of the Mormugao Municipal Council in Goa died due to COVID-19 in the wee hours on Sunday, a state health department official said.

Pascoal DSouza, who did not belong to any political party, tested positive for coronavirus last month following which he was admitted to Margao-based ESI Hospital, a specially designated facility for COVID-19 patients.

COVID-19 LIVE: Over 24000 positive cases reported in 24 Hours

New Delhi: With 24,850 people testing positive for coronavirus infection and 613 succumbing to the disease in a day, the highest so far, India'sCOVID-19 caseload soared to6,73,165, while the death toll climbed to 19,268 on Sunday, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

This is the third consecutive day that coronavirus infections have increased by more than 20,000 in the country.

The number of recoveries stands at 4,09,082 while one patient has migrated. There are 2,44,814 active cases of coronavirus infections present in the country.

"Thus, around 60.77 per cent of patients have recovered so far," an official said.

The total number of confirmed cases include foreigners as well.

Of the 613 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, 295 are from Maharashtra, 81 from Delhi, 65 from Tamil Nadu, 42 from Karnataka, 24 from Uttar Pradesh, 21 from Gujarat, 19 from West Bengal, 12 from Andhra Pradesh, nine from Bihar, eight from Jammu and Kashmir, seven from Rajasthan, five each in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab and Telangana, two each from Goa and Jharkhand and one from Himachal Pradesh.

AP reports 998 fresh COVID-19 cases, overall tally rises to 18,697

 Andhra Pradesh recorded a new single-day high of 998 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday taking the overall tally to 18,697 even as the state crossed the one million mark in the number of samples tested. The state also saw 14 fresh coronavirus deaths, the highest in a day so far, taking the toll to 232, with a mortality rate of 1.24 per cent. The latest government bulletin said 391 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours, making it an overall 8,422 recoveries till date.

Kurnool, the district with the highest number of 2,451 confirmed cases so far, continued to record more COVID-19 fatalities as five were added in the last 24 hours.

With 81 coronavirus deaths, Kurnool topped the list in the state.

Anantapuramu recorded three casualties, Chittoor and Kadapa two each and Krishna and Visakhapatnam district one each on Sunday, according to the bulletin.

AIADMK MLA tests positive for COVID-19

Coimbatore: An AIADMK MLA from the city tested positive for Coronavirus on Sunday, becoming the fifth ruling party legislator to contract the virus.

He has been admitted to the Government ESI Hospital here, a health department official said. The daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter of the MLA were already undergoing treatment at the ESI hospital after contracting the infection, after their return from Madurai a couple of days ago.

He had undergone the test three days ago. Earlier, four ruling party MLAs, including Higher Education Minister K P Ambalavanan, had contracted the virus. Further, four DMK MLAs, including the deceased J Anbazhagan, had tested positive for COVID-19.

COVID-19: Six fresh fatalities in Rajasthan

Rajasthan reported six COVID-19 deaths and 224 cases of coronavirus infection on Sunday, according to an official report.

The fatalities were reported from Jodhpur (4), Kota (1) and Udaipur (1), taking the death toll to 453.

469 new corona cases in Odisha, total cases cross 9K-mark

Coronavirus cases crossed the 9,000-mark with detection of 469 more cases in Odisha even as two more casualties took the state's death toll to 36, the Health Department said on Sunday.

The two deaths were reported in the last 24 hours -- a 40-year-old male from Gajapati district and a 64-year-old male from Sundergarh district, who was also suffering from diabetes.

The corona cases in Odisha now total 9,070, including 3,090 active cases and 5,934 recoveries.

Of the new cases, 317 were detected in quarantine centres while 152 are local contact cases. Ganjam district reported the highest 116 cases.

With 82-yr-old man's death, Kerala Covid-19 toll reaches 25

An 82-year-old man, who arrived from Saudi Arabia last month and later admitted to the state-run Medical College hospital at Manjeri in Malappuram, died on Saturday late night, the authorities reported on Sunday.

However, the deceased's Covid-19 test report, which was received on Sunday morning, showed him positive for the infection.

The latest death has taken the corona death toll in Kerala to 25.

Health authorities reveal that the man was a blood cancer patient and he was admitted to the hospital on July 1 following high fever.

Following his death, the health officials had informed the family and now his last rites would be conducted according to the Covid-19 protocols.

4 Assam Rifles personnel, 10 NDRF staffers among 22 new COVID-19 cases in Mizoram

Twenty-two more people, including four Assam Rifles personnel and ten NDRF staffers, tested positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram, taking the state's tally to 186, an official said on Sunday.

Of the fresh cases, 14 were reported from Aizawl district and four each from Siaha and Lawngtlai, he said.

34 new COVID-19 cases reported from Maharashtra jails in last 24 hours

Prisons across Maharashtra reported 34 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The figure includes 31 inmates and three jail staff, informed the Maharashtra Prison Department on Sunday.

A total of 415 inmates and 162 jail staff have tested positive till July 4, while 281 inmates and 90 jail staff have recovered.

Four inmate deaths have been reported due to COVID-19.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state by the COVID-19 pandemic in the country with a total of 2,00,064 cases.

Out of the total cases, 83,311 are active cases and 1,08,082 have been cured/discharged. The death toll in the state stands at 8,671.

Goa councillor dies of coronavirus infection

A 72-year-old councillor of the Mormugao Municipal Council in Goa died due to COVID-19 in the wee hours on Sunday, a state health department official said.

Pascoal DSouza, who did not belong to any political party, tested positive for coronavirus last month following which he was admitted to Margao-based ESI Hospital, a specially designated facility for COVID-19 patients.

The Government of Telangana has reported 1,850 positive COVID-19 cases, 1,342 recoveries and 5 deaths in the last 24 hours.

COVID-19 LIVE: Over 24000 positive cases reported in 24 Hours

New Delhi: With 24,850 people testing positive for coronavirus infection and 613 succumbing to the disease in a day, the highest so far, India'sCOVID-19 caseload soared to6,73,165, while the death toll climbed to 19,268 on Sunday, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

This is the third consecutive day that coronavirus infections have increased by more than 20,000 in the country.

The number of recoveries stands at 4,09,082 while one patient has migrated. There are 2,44,814 active cases of coronavirus infections present in the country.

"Thus, around 60.77 per cent of patients have recovered so far," an official said.

The total number of confirmed cases include foreigners as well.

Of the 613 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, 295 are from Maharashtra, 81 from Delhi, 65 from Tamil Nadu, 42 from Karnataka, 24 from Uttar Pradesh, 21 from Gujarat, 19 from West Bengal, 12 from Andhra Pradesh, nine from Bihar, eight from Jammu and Kashmir, seven from Rajasthan, five each in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab and Telangana, two each from Goa and Jharkhand and one from Himachal Pradesh.
