16 more people die of COVID-19 in Rajasthan

Rajasthan recorded 16 more fatalities due to the novel coronavirus, taking the COVID-19 death toll in the state to 1,590, according to a health department bulletin.

The state also reported 2,151 new cases and the total number of people infected by the virus now stands at 1,50,467 in Rajasthan, and out of these 21,351 are under treatment, it said.

Highest single-day spike of 10,947 cases in Karnataka

Karnataka on Wednesday reported its highest single-day spike of over 10,900 COVID-19 cases and 113  fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 6,68,652

and the toll to 9,574. 

The day also saw 9,832 patients getting discharged after recovery and the active cases stood at 1,16,153, the health department said.

Sikkim reported 18 new COVID-19 cases, taking the coronavirus tally in the Himalayan state to 3,236, an official said.

The state also reported two COVID-19 fatalities, pushing the death toll to 51, Information Education and Communication (IEC) member Sonam Bhutia said.

Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines Pralhad Joshi said he has tested positive for COVID-19 and was under home quarantine.

"I have tested positive for #COVID19. As I am asymptomatic, as per doctor's advice I am in home quarantine," he tweeted.

Nonagenarian freedom fighter wins battle against COVID-19

A 96-year-old freedom fighter has won the battle against COVID-19 and was released from the designated coronavirus hospital in the city where he was under treatment today after testing negative, an official said.

Loknath Nayak had tested positive for coronavirus on September 29 and was admitted to SUM COVID Hospital on the same day with fever, weakness and breathing problems, a a hospital statement said.

No free COVID-19 test in Meghalaya

With the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) withdrawing subsidy on testing kits, the Meghalaya government has announced that COVID-19 tests will be charged from next week, Deputy Chief Minister PrestoneTynsong said today.

The samples for COVID-19 test will be examined on payment from October 16, he added.

Himachal reports 60 new cases

At least 60 new cases and 334 cured cases reported in Himachal Pradesh since 9 pm bulletin yesterday. 

Total cases in the state stand at 16,343, including 2,862 active cases 13,232 cured and 224 deaths, according to Department of Health and Family Welfare.

Jharkhand reopens temples with restrictions

After a gap of nearly seven months, temples in Jharkhand will reopen from Thursday. 

The state government has also allowed the celebration of Durga Puja with some restrictions. 

Devotees without a mask will not be allowed and have to carry sanitisers. In the ‘Garbh Griha,' only five people will be allowed at one time. 

A maximum of 100 people will be allowed in the temple premises at one time.

At least 237 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Tripura today, pushing the tally in the state to 27,545, a health department official said. The death toll remained at 298 with no fresh fatalities reported in the last 24 hours, he said. 

West Tripura district, comprising state capital Agartala, has accounted for 161 COVID-19 deaths so far, the official added.

Arunachal reports 222 new cases, 1 fresh fatality

Arunachal Pradesh's COVID-19 tally rose to 11,007 on Wednesday as 222 more people, including three Army jawans, tested positive for the infection, while one fresh fatality pushed the northeastern state's coronavirus death toll to 20, a health official said.

A 47-year-old junior engineer suffering from hypertension died at a COVID-19 hospital at Chimpu near Itanagar, he said.

India's COVID-19 tally of cases climbed to 67.57 lakh with 72,049 new cases in a day, while 57,44,693 people have recuperated so far pushing the national recovery rate to 85.02 per cent on Wednesday, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The total coronavirus cases mounted to 67,57,131, while the death toll climbed to 1,04,555 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 986 lives in a span of 24 hours in the country, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The COVID-19 case fatality rate has further declined to 1.55 per cent.

There are 907883 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 13.44 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 8,22,71,654 samples have been tested up to October 6 with 11,99,857 samples being tested on Tuesday.

India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and it went past 50 lakh on September 15.

India's COVID-19 cases jumped from 10 lakh to 20 lakh in 21 days. Then it took 16 more days to race past 30 lakh, 13 days more to cross the 40-lakh mark, 11 days to go past 50 lakh and 12 days to cross 60 lakh

It took 110 days for the COVID-19 cases in the country to reach one lakh while it had taken 59 days more to go past the 10-lakh post. 

Of the 986 fresh deaths, 370 are from Maharashtra, 91 from Karnataka, 71 from Tamil Nadu, 63 from West Bengal, 61 from Uttar Pradesh, 39 from Delhi, 38 from Punjab, 33 from Andhra Pradesh, 25 each from Madhya Pradesh and Kerala, 23 from Chhattisgarh and 18 each from Haryana and Assam.

Sixteen fatalities have been reported each from Odisha and Jammu and Kashmir, 15 from Rajasthan, 10 each from Jharkhand and Gujarat, eight each from Uttarakhand, Telangana and Goa, five from Himachal Pradesh, three each from Sikkim, Puducherry, Manipur and Chandigarh and one each from Meghalaya, Bihar and Arunachal Pradesh.

Of the total 1,04,555 deaths, Maharashtra has reported the maximum at 38,717 followed by 9,917 in Tamil Nadu, 9,461 in Karnataka, 6,153 in Uttar Pradesh, 6,052 in Andhra Pradesh, 5,581 in Delhi, 5,318 in West Bengal, 3,679 in Punjab and 3,519 in Gujarat.

So far, 2488 people have died of COVID-19 in Madhya Pradesh, 1,574 in Rajasthan, 1509 in Haryana, 1268 in Jammu and Kashmir, 1189 from Telangana, 1104 in Chhattisgarh, 940 in Odisha, 925 in Bihar, 884 in Kerala, 778 in Assam, 757 in Jharkhand, and 677 in Uttarakhand.

Puducherry has registered 546 fatalities, Goa 468, Tripura 301, Chandigarh 180, Himachal Pradesh 229, Andaman and Nicobar Islands 54, Manipur 78, Ladakh 61, Meghalaya 60, Arunachal Pradesh 20, Sikkim 49, Nagaland 17 and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu two.

The health ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.

"Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research," the ministry said on its website, adding that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.

2,154 new cases, 8 deaths in Telangana
Telangana registered 2,154 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the tally to 2.04 lakh while eight more deaths pushed the toll to 1,189. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 303, followed by Rangareddy 205 and Medchal Malkajgiri 187, a government bulletin said on Wednesday, providing data as of 8 PM on October 6.

The cumulative recovered cases stood at 1.77 lakh, while 26,551 are under treatment. As many as 54,277 samples were tested on October 6.

Andhra registers 5k more cases, tally 7.2 lakh

Andhra Pradesh has registered 5,795 new Covid-19 positive cases, increasing the state's tally to 7.2 lakh, even as 6,046 more recoveries outnumbered new cases on Tuesday.

Chittoor beat East Godavari district to report the highest number of cases - 970, raising the district's tally to 66,555.

Among other places, East Godavari accounted for 801 infections, followed by West Godavari (696), Prakasam (580), Krishna (482), Nellore (451), Guntur (441) and Kadapa (434).

Meanwhile, 33 more patients succumbed to the virus, swelling the statewide toll to 6,052.

As usual, 6,046 recoveries outnumbered infections, resulting in total recoveries rising to 6.7 lakh.

Of the 7.2 lakh cases, active cases declined to 50,776.

India lifts curbs on export of N95 masks

The Union Commerce Ministry has lifted the restrictions on the export of N95 masks. Post the decision, masks of all categories can be exported from India.

"The export policy of N-95/FFP-2 masks or its equivalent is amended from 'restricted' to 'free' category making all types of masks freely exportable," a notification by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said.

In August, the government had allowed the export of N95 masks, up to a limit of 50 lakh units per month.

Earlier, exports were totally barred to cater to the domestic demand amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The domestic production of masks and PPE overalls have significantly increased in the past six months, and sector players have been asking the government to lift the curbs on exports.

Commenting on the decision, Union Minister for Railways and Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal tweeted: "India is Making for the World: N95 & FFP2 Masks can now be exported freely to countries across the world."

K'taka to make COVID test compulsory at all tourist spots

Karnataka Medical Education minister K. Sudhakar on Tuesday asserted that the state government was contemplating to come out with new guidelines like compulsory COVID test and physical checking of tourists using police, health and revenue department staff at all tourist places.

Speaking to reporters after a high-level meeting of elected representatives and Kodagu district officials here, Sudhakar said that the state government was coming out with these new guidelines only to prevent the pandemic spreading from tourists.

Gujarat sees 1,335 new cases, 10 more deaths

Gujarat on Tuesday recorded 1,335 new coronavirus cases, taking its tally to 1,45,362, while the death toll rose to 3,522 as 10 more people succumbed.

In October so far, the state has added 7,968 cases, at a daily average of 1,328.

A total of 1,473 patients were discharged, taking the total to 1,25,243, while there 16,597 active cases, out of which 91 critical patients are on ventilator.

Hotspot Surat saw 281 new cases, Ahmedabad 187, Rajkot 147, Vadodara 126 and Jamnagar 94. Mehsana followed with 49, Gandhinagar 48, Patan 37, Junagadh 35, Bhavnagar 34, Amreli 33, Bharuch 32, Banaskantha 31, Panchmahals 24, Morbi 19, Kutch and Surendranagar 18 each, Sabarkantha 14, Anand, Gir-Somnath, and Narmada 13 each, Mahisagar 12, Tapi 11, Navsari eight, Kheda seven, Aravalli and Dahod six each, Devbhumi Dwarka and Chotta Udepur five each, Botad four, Porbandar and Valsad two each and Dang one.

Telangana's COVID recovery rate crosses 86 per cent

The COVID-19 recovery rate in Telangana crossed 86 per cent as the state continued to report more recoveries than the daily count of positive cases.

The state on Tuesday reported 2,381 new recoveries, pushing the total number of people recovered to 1,74,769.

With this, the recovery rate rose to 86.26 per cent against the national average of 84.7 per cent.

A total of 1,983 new cases were reported during the last 24 hours ending Monday at 8 p.m. With the fresh cases, the state's tally has jumped to 2,02,594.

Ten more people succumbed to the virus during the same period. The fatality rate stands at 0.58 per cent against the national average of 1.6 per cent.

Officials said percentage of death due to COVID-19 was 44.96 while remaining 55.04 had co-morbidities.

The state now has 26,644 active cases including 21,784 who are in-home/institutional isolation.

Of the fresh cases, 292 were recorded in Greater Hyderabad. The daily count dropped to below 300 in the state capital for the last few days.

Gurugram recovery rate improves to 88%

The recovery rate of Covid-19 patients in Gurugram is steadily improving and now the district's recovery rate has increased to 88.23 per cent as compared to 86.71 per cent last week.

Health officials said due to increased awareness among residents and several awareness campaigns organised by the district administration and health department, the recovery rate of corona-infected patients is constantly improving.

They further said that while the recovery rate has increased in Gurugram district, the threat of the coronavirus pandemic has not been completely eradicated.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 tally in Gurugram rose to 22,204 as 266 more people tested positive for the disease on Tuesday, according to the daily health bulletin.

Karnataka recoveries cross 10k, outnumber new cases

For the second consecutive day, with 10,228 recoveries across the state, Karnataka outnumbered 9,993 new COVID cases till Monday night.

"Number of patients discharged rose to 5,33,074 till date with 10,228 patients recovering in the last 24 hours, while the state's COVID tally touched 6,57,705 with 9,993 news cases and 1,15,151 active cases," said the state health bulletin on Tuesday.

The state's death toll due to the infection rose to 9,461 so far, with 91 succumbing to the infection in the last 24 hours.

As the epicentre of the virus, Bengaluru registered 5,012 fresh cases, taking its tally to 2,57,241, including 55,736 active cases, while 1,98,369 recovered so far, with 3,354 discharged.

With 34 succumbing to the infection, the death toll has increased to 3,135 till date.

Of the 848 patients in the intensive care units (ICUs) across the state, 302 are in Bengaluru hospitals, followed by Dharwad 93, Ballari 80, Hassan 54 and Kalaburagi 37.

Of the 92,491 tests conducted on Tuesday, 48,035 were through rapid antigen detection and 44,456 through RT-PCR (real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction).

Among the districts, highest cases were reported from Tumakuru 475, Mysuru 373, Chitradurga 332, Davangere 279, Dakshina Kannada 272 and Hassan 235.

Of the districts where highest discharges were reported are Mysuru 1,169, Koppal 424, Udupi 384, Dakshina Kannada 382, Ballari 354, Mandya 318, Belagavi 312, Chitradurga 308 and Tumakuru 306.

Karnataka: Congress' Lok Sabha MP from Bangalore Rural, D.K. Suresh said on Tuesday that he has tested positive for coronavirus and is in isolation though he is asymptomatic.

"I have tested positive for Covid-19 and in isolation. I request all, including family members and friends who have been in contact with me to test themselves," Suresh tweeted.

He also requested media persons and officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), who were with him on Monday during a search operation in his house, to get themselves tested.

Suresh, 53, is the only opposition Congress member who won from the Bangalore Rural parliamentary constituency in the May 2019 general elections, while the party's other candidates lost in the 20 Lok Sabha seats they contested from the southern state.

The total coronavirus cases mounted to 67,57,131, while the death toll climbed to 1,04,555 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 986 lives in a span of 24 hours in the country, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The COVID-19 case fatality rate has further declined to 1.55 per cent.

There are 907883 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 13.44 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 8,22,71,654 samples have been tested up to October 6 with 11,99,857 samples being tested on Tuesday.

India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and it went past 50 lakh on September 15.

India's COVID-19 cases jumped from 10 lakh to 20 lakh in 21 days. Then it took 16 more days to race past 30 lakh, 13 days more to cross the 40-lakh mark, 11 days to go past 50 lakh and 12 days to cross 60 lakh

It took 110 days for the COVID-19 cases in the country to reach one lakh while it had taken 59 days more to go past the 10-lakh post. 

Of the 986 fresh deaths, 370 are from Maharashtra, 91 from Karnataka, 71 from Tamil Nadu, 63 from West Bengal, 61 from Uttar Pradesh, 39 from Delhi, 38 from Punjab, 33 from Andhra Pradesh, 25 each from Madhya Pradesh and Kerala, 23 from Chhattisgarh and 18 each from Haryana and Assam.

Sixteen fatalities have been reported each from Odisha and Jammu and Kashmir, 15 from Rajasthan, 10 each from Jharkhand and Gujarat, eight each from Uttarakhand, Telangana and Goa, five from Himachal Pradesh, three each from Sikkim, Puducherry, Manipur and Chandigarh and one each from Meghalaya, Bihar and Arunachal Pradesh.

Of the total 1,04,555 deaths, Maharashtra has reported the maximum at 38,717 followed by 9,917 in Tamil Nadu, 9,461 in Karnataka, 6,153 in Uttar Pradesh, 6,052 in Andhra Pradesh, 5,581 in Delhi, 5,318 in West Bengal, 3,679 in Punjab and 3,519 in Gujarat.

So far, 2488 people have died of COVID-19 in Madhya Pradesh, 1,574 in Rajasthan, 1509 in Haryana, 1268 in Jammu and Kashmir, 1189 from Telangana, 1104 in Chhattisgarh, 940 in Odisha, 925 in Bihar, 884 in Kerala, 778 in Assam, 757 in Jharkhand, and 677 in Uttarakhand.

Puducherry has registered 546 fatalities, Goa 468, Tripura 301, Chandigarh 180, Himachal Pradesh 229, Andaman and Nicobar Islands 54, Manipur 78, Ladakh 61, Meghalaya 60, Arunachal Pradesh 20, Sikkim 49, Nagaland 17 and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu two.

The health ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.

"Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research," the ministry said on its website, adding that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.

2,154 new cases, 8 deaths in Telangana
Telangana registered 2,154 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the tally to 2.04 lakh while eight more deaths pushed the toll to 1,189. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 303, followed by Rangareddy 205 and Medchal Malkajgiri 187, a government bulletin said on Wednesday, providing data as of 8 PM on October 6.

The cumulative recovered cases stood at 1.77 lakh, while 26,551 are under treatment. As many as 54,277 samples were tested on October 6.

According to the Union Health Ministry, India's total COVID-19 recoveries crossed 56.6 lakh. This has boosted the national recovery rate to 84.7%. This sustained high figure is fuelled by 17 states/UTs reporting recovery rate higher than the national average.

Andhra registers 5k more cases, tally 7.2 lakh

Andhra Pradesh has registered 5,795 new Covid-19 positive cases, increasing the state's tally to 7.2 lakh, even as 6,046 more recoveries outnumbered new cases on Tuesday.

Chittoor beat East Godavari district to report the highest number of cases - 970, raising the district's tally to 66,555.

Among other places, East Godavari accounted for 801 infections, followed by West Godavari (696), Prakasam (580), Krishna (482), Nellore (451), Guntur (441) and Kadapa (434).

Meanwhile, 33 more patients succumbed to the virus, swelling the statewide toll to 6,052.

As usual, 6,046 recoveries outnumbered infections, resulting in total recoveries rising to 6.7 lakh.

Of the 7.2 lakh cases, active cases declined to 50,776.

India lifts curbs on export of N95 masks

The Union Commerce Ministry has lifted the restrictions on the export of N95 masks. Post the decision, masks of all categories can be exported from India.

"The export policy of N-95/FFP-2 masks or its equivalent is amended from 'restricted' to 'free' category making all types of masks freely exportable," a notification by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said.

In August, the government had allowed the export of N95 masks, up to a limit of 50 lakh units per month.

Earlier, exports were totally barred to cater to the domestic demand amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The domestic production of masks and PPE overalls have significantly increased in the past six months, and sector players have been asking the government to lift the curbs on exports.

Commenting on the decision, Union Minister for Railways and Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal tweeted: "India is Making for the World: N95 & FFP2 Masks can now be exported freely to countries across the world."

K'taka to make COVID test compulsory at all tourist spots

Karnataka Medical Education minister K. Sudhakar on Tuesday asserted that the state government was contemplating to come out with new guidelines like compulsory COVID test and physical checking of tourists using police, health and revenue department staff at all tourist places.

Speaking to reporters after a high-level meeting of elected representatives and Kodagu district officials here, Sudhakar said that the state government was coming out with these new guidelines only to prevent the pandemic spreading from tourists.

Gujarat sees 1,335 new cases, 10 more deaths

Gujarat on Tuesday recorded 1,335 new coronavirus cases, taking its tally to 1,45,362, while the death toll rose to 3,522 as 10 more people succumbed.

In October so far, the state has added 7,968 cases, at a daily average of 1,328.

A total of 1,473 patients were discharged, taking the total to 1,25,243, while there 16,597 active cases, out of which 91 critical patients are on ventilator.

Hotspot Surat saw 281 new cases, Ahmedabad 187, Rajkot 147, Vadodara 126 and Jamnagar 94. Mehsana followed with 49, Gandhinagar 48, Patan 37, Junagadh 35, Bhavnagar 34, Amreli 33, Bharuch 32, Banaskantha 31, Panchmahals 24, Morbi 19, Kutch and Surendranagar 18 each, Sabarkantha 14, Anand, Gir-Somnath, and Narmada 13 each, Mahisagar 12, Tapi 11, Navsari eight, Kheda seven, Aravalli and Dahod six each, Devbhumi Dwarka and Chotta Udepur five each, Botad four, Porbandar and Valsad two each and Dang one.

Telangana's COVID recovery rate crosses 86 per cent

The COVID-19 recovery rate in Telangana crossed 86 per cent as the state continued to report more recoveries than the daily count of positive cases.

The state on Tuesday reported 2,381 new recoveries, pushing the total number of people recovered to 1,74,769.

With this, the recovery rate rose to 86.26 per cent against the national average of 84.7 per cent.

A total of 1,983 new cases were reported during the last 24 hours ending Monday at 8 p.m. With the fresh cases, the state's tally has jumped to 2,02,594.

Ten more people succumbed to the virus during the same period. The fatality rate stands at 0.58 per cent against the national average of 1.6 per cent.

Officials said percentage of death due to COVID-19 was 44.96 while remaining 55.04 had co-morbidities.

The state now has 26,644 active cases including 21,784 who are in-home/institutional isolation.

Of the fresh cases, 292 were recorded in Greater Hyderabad. The daily count dropped to below 300 in the state capital for the last few days.

Gurugram recovery rate improves to 88%

The recovery rate of Covid-19 patients in Gurugram is steadily improving and now the district's recovery rate has increased to 88.23 per cent as compared to 86.71 per cent last week.

Health officials said due to increased awareness among residents and several awareness campaigns organised by the district administration and health department, the recovery rate of corona-infected patients is constantly improving.

They further said that while the recovery rate has increased in Gurugram district, the threat of the coronavirus pandemic has not been completely eradicated.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 tally in Gurugram rose to 22,204 as 266 more people tested positive for the disease on Tuesday, according to the daily health bulletin.

Karnataka recoveries cross 10k, outnumber new cases

For the second consecutive day, with 10,228 recoveries across the state, Karnataka outnumbered 9,993 new COVID cases till Monday night.

"Number of patients discharged rose to 5,33,074 till date with 10,228 patients recovering in the last 24 hours, while the state's COVID tally touched 6,57,705 with 9,993 news cases and 1,15,151 active cases," said the state health bulletin on Tuesday.

The state's death toll due to the infection rose to 9,461 so far, with 91 succumbing to the infection in the last 24 hours.

As the epicentre of the virus, Bengaluru registered 5,012 fresh cases, taking its tally to 2,57,241, including 55,736 active cases, while 1,98,369 recovered so far, with 3,354 discharged.

With 34 succumbing to the infection, the death toll has increased to 3,135 till date.

Of the 848 patients in the intensive care units (ICUs) across the state, 302 are in Bengaluru hospitals, followed by Dharwad 93, Ballari 80, Hassan 54 and Kalaburagi 37.

Of the 92,491 tests conducted on Tuesday, 48,035 were through rapid antigen detection and 44,456 through RT-PCR (real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction).

Among the districts, highest cases were reported from Tumakuru 475, Mysuru 373, Chitradurga 332, Davangere 279, Dakshina Kannada 272 and Hassan 235.

Of the districts where highest discharges were reported are Mysuru 1,169, Koppal 424, Udupi 384, Dakshina Kannada 382, Ballari 354, Mandya 318, Belagavi 312, Chitradurga 308 and Tumakuru 306.

Karnataka: Congress' Lok Sabha MP from Bangalore Rural, D.K. Suresh said on Tuesday that he has tested positive for coronavirus and is in isolation though he is asymptomatic.

"I have tested positive for Covid-19 and in isolation. I request all, including family members and friends who have been in contact with me to test themselves," Suresh tweeted.

He also requested media persons and officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), who were with him on Monday during a search operation in his house, to get themselves tested.

Suresh, 53, is the only opposition Congress member who won from the Bangalore Rural parliamentary constituency in the May 2019 general elections, while the party's other candidates lost in the 20 Lok Sabha seats they contested from the southern state.
