Three COVID-19 Vaccines At Clinical Trial Stage In India: ICMR DG

Three COVID-19 vaccines are at a clinical trial stage in the country and two indigenous vaccine candidates have completed phase one trial, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) DG Dr Balram Bhargava said on Tuesday.

"Three vaccines are at the clinical trial stage in India. Zydus Cadila and Bharat Biotech have completed phase-I trials. Results are being analysed. They have started recruitment for the second phase," Dr Bhargava said at a press conference here.

He was replying to a question on the status of COVID-19 vaccines in the country.

"Serum Institute of India (SII) has completed phase II-B3 trials. They took seven days break and will start phase-III trial (with 1,500 patients at 14 locations) after clearances," he added.

3,215 new Covid cases in Kerala; death toll climbs to 466

"Of the 3,215 COVID-19 cases reported on Tuesday, 3,013 were infected through contact while 2.08 lakh people are under observation in the state," Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said. 

With the addition of the new cases, the infection count has surged to 1,14,033 while the toll has climbed to 466 with 12 fatalities.

Goa records 613 new COVID-19 cases; tally crosses 25,000

Goa's COVID-19 tally crossed the 25,000 marks after 613 persons tested positive for the deadly infection on Tuesday, an official from the health department said.

The latest cases have taken the count of infections in the coastal state to 25,511, of which 20,094 persons have been discharged from hospitals so far, the official said.

"While 446 patients recovered from the infection on Tuesday, 11 died of it," he said.

"With the latest fatalities, the toll in the coastal state now stands at 315," the official said. 

Goa's COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 25,511, new cases 613, deaths 315, discharged 20,094, active cases 5,102, samples tested till date 2,27,810.

Meghalaya's COVID-19 tally rises to 4,037; death toll increases to 29

Meghalaya's COVID-19 caseload rose to 4,037 on Tuesday as 172 more people tested positive for the infection while one fatality pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 29, a senior health official said.

Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday witnessed 2,323 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the case count in the state to 93,053, health officials said.

With 29 fatalities, the COVID-19 death toll in the state went up to 1,820, they said.

Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu tests Covid-19 positive

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu said that he tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday and is presently in home isolation in New Delhi.

"I have undergone COVID test RT-PCR and have tested positive for Covid19. I am asymptomatic and feeling healthy," Khandu wrote in his official Twitter handle.

He said that he has self-isolated himself and requested everyone who came in contact with him to adhere to the standard operating procedure.

Khandu went to the national capital on an official visit on September 12.

Guj BJP chief, state spokesperson recover from COVID-19

Gujarat BJP unit president C R Paatil on Tuesday said he recovered from COVID-19 disease and will be discharged on Wednesday.

Paatil tweeted that his latest RT-PCR test report returned negative.

"My RT-PCR report came negative today and I will be given discharge on Wednesday. I want to thank everyone who prayed for my recovery," he tweeted.

Paatil was admitted at a private hospital in Gandhinagar on September 9 after testing positive for coronavirus.

Gujarat minister, BJP MLA test positive for coronavirus

A minister in the Gujarat government and a BJP MLA on Tuesday said they have tested positive for coronavirus.

In a tweet, Gujarat Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs minister Jayesh Radadiya said he has contracted the infection and is home quarantined.

"My coronavirus report is positive. I am currently home quarantined and my condition is stable. Those who have come in contact with me in the last one week should also get themselves tested," Radadiya said in a tweet.

Similarly, BJP MLA from Jamnagar Raghavji Patel also took to Twitter to say that he had tested positive for the disease.

In his tweet, Patel said that he is undergoing treatment at a designated hospital in Jamnagar and urged people who recently came in contact with him to either get themselves tested or remain in-home quarantine.

Himachal reports four more COVID deaths

Himachal Pradesh recorded four more deaths due to COVID-19, pushing the toll linked to the disease to 85 on Tuesday.

"The new fatalities, reported since Monday night, were reported from Kangra, Shimla, Mandi and Solan," Special Secretary, Health, Nipun Jindal said.

Solan accounts for 19 of the total COVID-19 deaths in the state, followed by Kangra (18), Shimla (13), Mandi (nine), Una (eight), Sirmaur (six), Hamirpur and Chamba (five each), and Kullu and Bilaspur (one each).

Ten employees deployed at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway station in Delhi have been tested coronavirus positive including two sub-inspectors, an ASI and seven constables. 

All coronavirus victims have been home quarantined and RPF personnel are continuously being tested at Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station.

 Tripura's COVID-19 tally rises to 19,718 with 531 fresh cases

At least 531 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Tripura on Tuesday, pushing the tally in the state to 19,718, a health department official said.

The death toll rose to 207 with seven more fatalities, he said.

West Tripura district, which also comprises state capital Agartala, accounted for 115 of the 207 coronavirus deaths, the official said.

According to him, 389 patients were cured of the disease and discharged from the G B Pant Hospital here on Monday, taking the number of recoveries in the state to
11,925.

Tripura now has 7,564 active COVID-19 cases, while 22 patients have migrated to other states, the official said.

A total of 3,35,689 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the state so far, he added.

Odisha reports 3,645 new COVID-19 cases, 8 more deaths

Odisha's COVID-19 tally on Tuesday mounted to 1,58,650 with 3,645 people, including a ruling BJD MLA, testing positive for the infection, a health department official said.

 The death toll rose to 645 with eight more people succumbing to the infection - three in Cuttack and one each in Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Sambalpur and Subarnapur, he said.

 Of the 3,645 new cases, 2,151 were reported from various quarantine centres, and 1,494 were detected during contact tracing.

 Khurda district, of which state capital Bhubaneswar is a part, reported the maximum number of fresh cases at 517, followed by Cuttack at 357 and Puri at 246, the health department official said.

 Mizoram's COVID-19 tally increased to 1,468 as 40 more people, including state health secretary and a 10-year-old girl, have tested positive for the disease, an official said on Tuesday.

Karnataka minister Basavaraj tests COVID positive

Ahead of the Monsoon Session of the Karnataka Legislature from September 21, state Urban Development Minister Byrati Basavaraj tested COVID positive and was admitted to a private hospital in the city, an official said on Tuesday.

"Basavaraj tested COVID positive and has been admitted to the Columbia Asia Hospital in the city's northern suburb for treatment," the minister's secretary said here.

Basavaraj, 56, is the ruling BJP's Legislator from the K.R. Puram Assembly segment in the city's eastern suburb.

"The minister had body ache and no other symptoms on Monday when he took the COVID test," the official said.

Pondy clocks 380 fresh coronavirus cases, aggregate touches 20,601

The Puducherry government tested 5,496 blood and swab samples, the highest ever in the union territory, and identified 380 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, taking the tally of infections to 20,601.

Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release that as many as 5,496 samples were tested.

 Ten more deaths, 2,058 fresh COVID-19 cases in Telangana 

Telangana recorded 2,058 new COVID-19 cases and ten related fatalities, pushing the tally of infections to 1.60 lakh in the state.

Out of the fresh cases, 277 were reported from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), followed by Rangareddy 143, Karimnagar 135, Warangal Urban 108, Siddipet 106, and Khammam 103 districts, a state government bulletin said on Tuesday, providing data as of 8 PM on September 14.

As 10 more people succumbed to the disease, the toll rose to 984.

The cumulative recovered cases stood at 1.29 lakh, while 30,400 were under treatment.

The bulletin said 51,247 samples were tested on September 14.

Cumulatively, the number of samples tested was 22.20 lakh.

The samples tested per million population was 59,811, it said.

The case fatality rate in the state was 0.61 per cent, while it was 1.64 per cent at the national level, it said.

The recovery rate in the state rose further to 80.45 per cent, while it was 78.26 per cent in the country.

The bulletin said out of the total 1.60 lakh cases, 1.12 lakh (70 per cent) were asymptomatic and 48,171 were symptomatic.

It also said 61.83 per cent cases were male, while 38.17 per cent were female.

The highest number of positive cases was among the 21-30 age group.

Indore reports highest single-day spike of 386 COVID-19 cases, tally reaches 17,547

With the highest single-day spike of 386 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, Indore has reported total 17,547 cases, said the office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in a bulletin.

With four more fatalities reported yesterday, the death toll reached 467 in Indore.  

According to the Union Health Ministry, India's COVID-19 count has reached 48,46,428, including 9,86,598 active cases, 37,80,108 cured/discharged/migrated cases and 79,722 deaths as of September 14.

With 2,403 new COVID-19 cases, Assam's tally reaches 1,44,166

Assam reported 2,403 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 1,44,166, said the Assam Government.

The number of active and recovered cases in the state are 30,548 and 1,13,133 respectively while the death toll stands at 482.

With 414 new COVID-19 patients, Puducherry reports total 20,226 cases

Puducherry reported 414 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, taking the total number of cases to 20,226, said Health Department, Government of Puducherry.  

The Union Territory also reported 447 discharges and nine deaths yesterday.  

According to the Union Health Ministry, India's COVID-19 count has reached 48,46,428, including 9,86,598 active cases, 37,80,108 cured/discharged/migrated cases and 79,722 deaths as of September 14.

111 fresh cases of COVID-19 in Taj city

The continuous surge in fresh cases of Covid-19 in the Agra region is causing alarm, as life is struggling to return to normalcy. The rail transport has resumed and preparations are going on to welcome tourists at the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort from September 21.

While Agra reported 111 fresh cases, Mathura reported 66, Firozabad 71, Mainpuri 42, Etah 9, Kasganj 17.

Two deaths have been reported from Mathura. In Agra, the death toll has gone up to 115

Agra's tally for coronavirus cases now stands at 4,153. So far 3,223 have recovered and the number of active cases is 815.

Family members of several patients and victims have been complaining about lack of oxygen supply in hospitals. Though the district administration continues to say that the situation was within control, the Taj city seems to be struggling with a shortage of oxygen supplies in hospitals.

2,540 COVID-19 cases, 15 more deaths in Kerala
Kerala reported 2,540 COVID-19 cases on Monday, taking the infection tally to 1,10,818, while 15 more deaths took the toll up to 454, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.

As many as 2,110 people recovered from the virus today and 30,486 people are presently under treatment for the infection, he told reporters here.

So far, 79,813 people have recovered.

Of the positive cases, 34 had come from abroad and 73 from other states, while 2346 people were infected through contact and the source of infection of 212 people was not known, he said.

Sixty-four health workers, including 24 from Kannur, were among those who tested positive today, the Chief Minister said.

Malappuram accounted for the highest number of cases-- 482, followed by Kozhikode 382, Thiruvananthapuram 332, Ernakulam 255 and Kannur 232.

Wayanad reported 20 cases and Pathnamthitta, the least, with 16.

Fifteen deaths reported in the past few days were confirmed due to COVID-19 today, taking the toll to 454.

The deceased were aged between 13 and 68, the Chief Minister said.

As many as 2,05,158 people are under observation and 22,917 are in various hospitals, including 2213 admitted today, he said.

In the last 24 hours, 22,279 samples have been tested and so far 21,52,585 samples have been sent for testing.

Amravati COVID-19 count goes past 9,000; six die

The number of COVID-19 cases in Amravati district in Maharashtra crossed the 9,000-mark and reached 9,085 on Monday with 311 additions, an official health update said.

With six patients succumbing to the infection, the toll reached 204, it said.

A total of 398 patients were discharged in the day, taking the count of recoveries to 7,091.

The district is left with 1,790 active cases.

 Kalyan Singh tests COVID positive, hospitalised

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh has been hospitalised after he tested positive for COVID-19.

Also a former Governor of Rajasthan the 88-year-old was admitted to the Rajdhani Corona Hospital in the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) late Monday.

He has been complaining of fever, dry cough and breathlessness for the past two days.

SGPGIMS Director Prof R.K. Dhiman said the veteran leader's condition is stable and on initial evaluation, his oxygen saturation during rest was 97 per cent on room air. He has been admitted to the ICU where he is being kept under observation.

COVID 19 LIVE: Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu tests positive

New Delhi: India's COVID-19 case tally crossed the 49-lakh mark with a spike of 83,809 cases and 1,054 deaths in last 24 hours, according to Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The total case tally stands at 49,30,237 in the country including 9,90,061 active cases, 38,59,400 cured/discharged/migrated and 80,776 deaths.

Maharashtra which is most affected by the pandemic has 2,91,630 active cases of COVID-19. Karnataka has 98,482 active cases, Andhra Pradesh has 93,204, Tamil Nadu 46,912 and Delhi 28,641.  

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 5,83,12,273 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to 14th September, of these 10,72,845 were tested yesterday.

Pondy clocks 380 fresh coronavirus cases, aggregate touches 20,601

The Puducherry government tested 5,496 blood and swab samples, the highest ever in the union territory, and identified 380 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, taking the tally of infections to 20,601.

Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release that as many as 5,496 samples were tested.

 Ten more deaths, 2,058 fresh COVID-19 cases in Telangana 

Telangana recorded 2,058 new COVID-19 cases and ten related fatalities, pushing the tally of infections to 1.60 lakh in the state.

Out of the fresh cases, 277 were reported from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), followed by Rangareddy 143, Karimnagar 135, Warangal Urban 108, Siddipet 106, and Khammam 103 districts, a state government bulletin said on Tuesday, providing data as of 8 PM on September 14.

As 10 more people succumbed to the disease, the toll rose to 984.

The cumulative recovered cases stood at 1.29 lakh, while 30,400 were under treatment.

The bulletin said 51,247 samples were tested on September 14.

Cumulatively, the number of samples tested was 22.20 lakh.

The samples tested per million population was 59,811, it said.

The case fatality rate in the state was 0.61 per cent, while it was 1.64 per cent at the national level, it said.

The recovery rate in the state rose further to 80.45 per cent, while it was 78.26 per cent in the country.

The bulletin said out of the total 1.60 lakh cases, 1.12 lakh (70 per cent) were asymptomatic and 48,171 were symptomatic.

It also said 61.83 per cent cases were male, while 38.17 per cent were female.

The highest number of positive cases was among the 21-30 age group.

Indore reports highest single-day spike of 386 COVID-19 cases, tally reaches 17,547

With the highest single-day spike of 386 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, Indore has reported total 17,547 cases, said the office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in a bulletin.

With four more fatalities reported yesterday, the death toll reached 467 in Indore.  

According to the Union Health Ministry, India's COVID-19 count has reached 48,46,428, including 9,86,598 active cases, 37,80,108 cured/discharged/migrated cases and 79,722 deaths as of September 14.

With 2,403 new COVID-19 cases, Assam's tally reaches 1,44,166

Assam reported 2,403 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 1,44,166, said the Assam Government.

The number of active and recovered cases in the state are 30,548 and 1,13,133 respectively while the death toll stands at 482.

With 414 new COVID-19 patients, Puducherry reports total 20,226 cases

Puducherry reported 414 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, taking the total number of cases to 20,226, said Health Department, Government of Puducherry.  

The Union Territory also reported 447 discharges and nine deaths yesterday.

111 fresh cases of COVID-19 in Taj city

The continuous surge in fresh cases of Covid-19 in the Agra region is causing alarm, as life is struggling to return to normalcy. The rail transport has resumed and preparations are going on to welcome tourists at the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort from September 21.

While Agra reported 111 fresh cases, Mathura reported 66, Firozabad 71, Mainpuri 42, Etah 9, Kasganj 17.

Two deaths have been reported from Mathura. In Agra, the death toll has gone up to 115

Agra's tally for coronavirus cases now stands at 4,153. So far 3,223 have recovered and the number of active cases is 815.

Family members of several patients and victims have been complaining about lack of oxygen supply in hospitals. Though the district administration continues to say that the situation was within control, the Taj city seems to be struggling with a shortage of oxygen supplies in hospitals.

2,540 COVID-19 cases, 15 more deaths in Kerala
Kerala reported 2,540 COVID-19 cases on Monday, taking the infection tally to 1,10,818, while 15 more deaths took the toll up to 454, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.

As many as 2,110 people recovered from the virus today and 30,486 people are presently under treatment for the infection, he told reporters here.

So far, 79,813 people have recovered.

Of the positive cases, 34 had come from abroad and 73 from other states, while 2346 people were infected through contact and the source of infection of 212 people was not known, he said.

Sixty-four health workers, including 24 from Kannur, were among those who tested positive today, the Chief Minister said.

Malappuram accounted for the highest number of cases-- 482, followed by Kozhikode 382, Thiruvananthapuram 332, Ernakulam 255 and Kannur 232.

Wayanad reported 20 cases and Pathnamthitta, the least, with 16.

Fifteen deaths reported in the past few days were confirmed due to COVID-19 today, taking the toll to 454.

The deceased were aged between 13 and 68, the Chief Minister said.

As many as 2,05,158 people are under observation and 22,917 are in various hospitals, including 2213 admitted today, he said.

In the last 24 hours, 22,279 samples have been tested and so far 21,52,585 samples have been sent for testing.

Amravati COVID-19 count goes past 9,000; six die

The number of COVID-19 cases in Amravati district in Maharashtra crossed the 9,000-mark and reached 9,085 on Monday with 311 additions, an official health update said.

With six patients succumbing to the infection, the toll reached 204, it said.

A total of 398 patients were discharged in the day, taking the count of recoveries to 7,091.

The district is left with 1,790 active cases.

 Kalyan Singh tests COVID positive, hospitalised

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh has been hospitalised after he tested positive for COVID-19.

Also a former Governor of Rajasthan the 88-year-old was admitted to the Rajdhani Corona Hospital in the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) late Monday.

He has been complaining of fever, dry cough and breathlessness for the past two days.

SGPGIMS Director Prof R.K. Dhiman said the veteran leader's condition is stable and on initial evaluation, his oxygen saturation during rest was 97 per cent on room air. He has been admitted to the ICU where he is being kept under observation.

COVID 19 LIVE: Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu tests positive

New Delhi: India's COVID-19 case tally crossed the 49-lakh mark with a spike of 83,809 cases and 1,054 deaths in last 24 hours, according to Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The total case tally stands at 49,30,237 in the country including 9,90,061 active cases, 38,59,400 cured/discharged/migrated and 80,776 deaths.

Maharashtra which is most affected by the pandemic has 2,91,630 active cases of COVID-19. Karnataka has 98,482 active cases, Andhra Pradesh has 93,204, Tamil Nadu 46,912 and Delhi 28,641.  

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 5,83,12,273 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to 14th September, of these 10,72,845 were tested yesterday.
