A Border Security Force (BSF) inspector of North Bengal Frontier tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, said Rajib Ranjan Sharma, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), BSF, North Bengal Frontier, Kadamtala.  

He is the in-charge of the accumodetion, logistics for the BSF personnel who were returning from leave.  

He is undergoing treatment at a 100-neded health facility of the BSF at Kadamtala, North Bengal Frontier Headquarter. Other 40 BSF jawans who came in contact have been quarantined at their own facility.  

A total of 317 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported on Saturday, taking the total number of cases to 5,130 in the state, West Bengal health department said.

Manipur reports 4 new COVID-19 cases, state tally at 66

The state reported four new COVID-19 positive cases on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 66.

"The number of active cases in the state stands at 59," Manipur government said.

A total of 1,82,143 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in India. 86,983 persons have recovered or migrated, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Sunday.

There are 89,995 active cases of COVID-19 in the country at present. As many as 5,164 people have lost their lives due to coronavirus in the country.

In a major scare for the state administration in Uttarakhand, Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj, who had attended a cabinet meet just two days ago, tested positive for COVID-19 along with four family members. According to reports, among those tested positive include Satpal Maharaj's son and daughter-in-law.

India records highest single-day spike of 8,380 cases; death toll climbs to 5,164

India registered its highest single-day spike of COVID-19 cases on Sunday with 8,380 new infections reported in the last 24 hours, taking the country's tally to 1,82,143, while the death toll rose to 5,164, according to the Union Health Ministry.

The number of active COVID-19 cases stood to 89,995, while 86,983 people have recovered and one patient has migrated, it said.

"Thus, around 47.76 per cent patients have recovered so far," a senior health ministry official said.

Through a graded, pre-emptive and pro-active approach, the government is taking several steps along with the States/UTs for prevention, containment and management of COVID-19, the ministry said, adding that these are being regularly reviewed and monitored at the highest level.

The death toll has gone up by 193 since Saturday morning, of which 99 deaths were reported from Maharashtra, 27 from Gujarat, 18 from Delhi, nine each from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, seven from West Bengal, six each from Tamil Nadu and Telangana, five from Bihar, three from Uttar Pradesh, two from Punjab, and one each from Haryana and Kerala.

Of the total 5,164 fatalities, Maharashtra tops the tally with 2,197 deaths, followed by Gujarat (1,007), Delhi (416), Madhya Pradesh (343), West Bengal (309), Uttar Pradesh (201), Rajasthan (193), Tamil Nadu (160), Telangana (77) and Andhra Pradesh (60).

More than 70 per cent of the deaths are due to co-morbidities, the ministry said.

Two deaths and 98 more cases of COVID-19 have been reported from Andhra Pradesh in the last 24 hours, said the state COVID-19 Nodal Officer.

The two deaths were reported from Krishna and Chittoor districts, taking the death toll in the state to 62. A total of 43 patients were also discharged after treatment in the state, taking the total number of discharged patients to 2,135.

A total of 9,370 samples were tested in the state out of which 98 samples tested positive. With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh reaches 3,042, including 845 active cases.

The cumulative positive cases from foreign returnees are 111, including 111 active cases. The cumulative positive cases from other states are 418, including 221 active cases with eight discharges today.

Assam reports 56 new COVID-19 cases, state tally reaches 1272

With 56 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Assam on Sunday, the tally of coronavirus cases reaches 1272 in the state, said Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Out of these 56 cases, 18 were reported in Lakhimpur, 12 from Barpeta, seven from Udalguri, five from Baksa, five from Dhubri, three from Kamrup, two from Dhemaji, two from Airport, one from Nalbari. However, the remaining one is yet to be ascertained, tweeted the Minister.

As of Sunday, there are 1102 active COVID-19 cases in the state as 163 patients recovered and four cases of death.

The total confirmed cases includes foreigners.

A Delhi Police personnel posted with the Crime Branch has passed away due to coronavirus on Saturday.

Gujarat's corona death toll now 1,007, total cases 16,356

Gujarat's death toll due to novel coronavirus climbed to 1,007 on Saturday as 27 more persons succumbed to the dreaded virus. With 412 new cases, the total crossed the 16K-mark to 16,356.

The state has 6,119 active cases at present, of which the condition of 6,057 is stable. The condition of 62 patients is critical and are on ventilators.

The state has been registering over 20 deaths daily since beginning of May. Of the 27 new casualties, Ahmedabad reported 24. A patient each from Gandhinagar, Banaskantha and Mahesana also succumbed to the virus on Saturday.

A total of 621 patients were discharged on Saturday, taking the total cured patients to 9,230.

According to the state government, the recovery rate of Gujarat has now improved to 56.43% from 39.20% 15 days back.

Delhi secretariat department sealed as official tests positive

New Delhi: The General Administration Department (GAD) at the Delhi Secretariat has been sealed for sanitisation after an employee tested positive for coronavirus, officials said on Saturday.

"The official was from the GAD. The department has been sealed for sanitisation. Also, some of the officials are considered as close contacts and have been put under quarantine," a government official said.

Delhi Secretariat houses the offices of all the Delhi Cabinet ministers, including the Chief Minister.

This came after an official from the Health Minister's office and four from the Raj Niwas tested positive for the infection.

The number of coronavirus cases in the city crossed the 18,000-mark on Saturday.

COVID-19: India records highest single-day spike of 8,380 cases; death toll climbs to 5,164

India registered its highest single-day spike of COVID-19 cases on Sunday with 8,380 new infections reported in the last 24 hours, taking the country's tally to 1,82,143, while the death toll rose to 5,164, according to the Union Health Ministry.

The number of active COVID-19 cases stood to 89,995, while 86,983 people have recovered and one patient has migrated, it said.

"Thus, around 47.75 per cent patients have recovered so far," a senior health ministry official said.

The total confirmed cases includes foreigners.

The death toll has gone up by 193 since Saturday morning, of which 99 were from Maharashtra, 27 from Gujarat, 18 from Delhi, nine each from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, seven from West Bengal, six each from Tamil Nadu and Telangana, five in Bihar, three from Uttar Pradesh, two from Punjab, and one each from Haryana and Kerala.

One Delhi Police personnel succumbs to COVID-19

A Delhi Police personnel posted with the Crime Branch has passed away due to coronavirus on Saturday.

"A Delhi Police personnel posted in Crime Branch, who had tested positive for COVID-19, passed away yesterday," said DCP Central Sanjay Bhatia.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has recorded 5,164 deaths due to COVID-19. However, 86,983 patients have been cured/discharged as of May 31.

Gujarat's corona death toll now 1,007, total cases 16,356

Gujarat's death toll due to novel coronavirus climbed to 1,007 on Saturday as 27 more persons succumbed to the dreaded virus. With 412 new cases, the total crossed the 16K-mark to 16,356.

The state has 6,119 active cases at present, of which the condition of 6,057 is stable. The condition of 62 patients is critical and are on ventilators.

The state has been registering over 20 deaths daily since beginning of May. Of the 27 new casualties, Ahmedabad reported 24. A patient each from Gandhinagar, Banaskantha and Mahesana also succumbed to the virus on Saturday.

A total of 621 patients were discharged on Saturday, taking the total cured patients to 9,230.

According to the state government, the recovery rate of Gujarat has now improved to 56.43% from 39.20% 15 days back.

Delhi secretariat department sealed as official tests positive

New Delhi: The General Administration Department (GAD) at the Delhi Secretariat has been sealed for sanitisation after an employee tested positive for coronavirus, officials said on Saturday.

"The official was from the GAD. The department has been sealed for sanitisation. Also, some of the officials are considered as close contacts and have been put under quarantine," a government official said.

Delhi Secretariat houses the offices of all the Delhi Cabinet ministers, including the Chief Minister.

This came after an official from the Health Minister's office and four from the Raj Niwas tested positive for the infection.

The number of coronavirus cases in the city crossed the 18,000-mark on Saturday.
