26 fresh cases push Mizoram's COVID-19 tally to 1,379

Twenty-six more people, including a nine-month-old baby, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram, taking the northeastern state's tally to 1,379 on Saturday, a health official said.

Eighteen new cases were reported in Aizawl district, five in Saitual, two in Lawngtlai and one in Siaha, he said.

All the fresh infections in Aizawl are local transmission cases, while the remaining eight new patients from three districts have travel history, the official said.

All the new patients have been shifted to COVID-19 care centres, he said.

Odisha reports 3,777 new COVID-19 cases, 11 more deaths

Odisha's COVID-19 tally mounted to 1,46,894 on Saturday with 3,777 more people testing positive for the disease, while 11 fresh fatalities pushed the state's death toll to 616, a health department official said.

Three deaths were reported in Cuttack, two in Khurda, and one each in Bolangir, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Nayagarh and Rayagada, he said.

Of the 3,777 new cases, 2,191 were recorded in various quarantine centres, and 1,586 detected during contact tracing.

Khurda district, of which state capital Bhubaneswar is a part, registered the maximum number of fresh cases at 815, followed by Cuttack at 368.

Odisha currently has 34,163 active cases, while 1,12,062 people have recovered from the infection.

Fifty-three COVID-19 patients have died in the coastal state due to comorbidities, the official said.

As many as 23.74 lakh samples have been tested so far, including 50,979 on Friday, he added.

29 new cases push COVID-19 tally in A&N Islands to 3,494

At least 29 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, raising the tally in the Union Territory to 3,494, a senior official said on Saturday.

The new cases were detected during contact tracing.

Thirty-six people were discharged from hospitals since Friday, taking the number of recoveries in the archipelago to 3,157, the official said.

The Union Territory currently has 286 active cases, while 51 people have succumbed to the infection.

A total of 43,680 samples have been sent for COVID-19 examination so far.

COVID-19: Rajasthan reports 739 new cases, 7 more deaths

Rajasthan reported 739 fresh COVID-19 cases and seven deaths on Saturday, officials said.

The cumulative figure of positive cases in the state has risen to 99,775 while the toll increased to 1,214, they said.

Of the seven fatalities, Jaipur reported 2 while Ajmer, Bikaner,Churu, Pratapgarh and Udaipur reported one death each.

At 105, Jodhpur reported the maximum new cases followed by Jaipur (103), Kota (84), Alwar (59), Ajmer (46), and Bikaner (33) among others.

The number of active cases in the state is 16,583 at present.

154 new cases take Arunachal's COVID-19 tally to 5,825

Arunachal Pradesh's COVID-19 tally mounted to 5,825 as 154 more people, including three security personnel and two health workers, have tested positive for the disease, an official said on Saturday.

The death toll rose to 10 in the northeastern state after a 38-year-old woman succumbed to the infection, State Surveillance Officer Dr L Jampa said.

With the single highest day spike of 97,570 new cases in the last 24 hours, India,s infection tally crossed a mark of 46 lakh.

According to the ministry of health and family welfare new 1,201 deaths were also reported in the last 24 hours.

The total case tally stands at 46,59,985 including 9,58,316 active cases, 36,24,197 cured/discharged/migrated & 77,472 deaths

With highest single-day spike of 341 new COVID-19 cases, Indore's tally reaches 16,431 

Indore reported the highest single-day spike of 341 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking the total number of cases to 16,431, said the office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in a bulletin.

Indore has also reported the highest number of deaths in a single day, standing at seven following which the death toll rose to 451.  

Meanwhile, India's tally of active COVID-19 cases has reached 9,43,480 cases.

COVID-19 claims three more lives in Sikkim
Three more persons died on Friday due to COVID-19 taking the toll to 11 in Sikkim, an official said.

A 68-year-old woman succumbed to the disease in STNM hospital, while a 69-year-old male died at the Central Referral Hospital (CRH) near here, he said.

An 85-year-old man from Arithang locality here was the third person to have died due to the contagion during the day.

All the three coronavirus victims had comorbid conditions, he said.

Meanwhile, Sikkim reported 17 new positive cases in the past 24 hours to take COVID-19 tally in the state to 2029.

East Sikkim registered 12 cases, while South Sikkim accounted for five other cases.

East Sikkim is the most affected in the state with 1458 cases followed by 480 in South Sikkim, 87 in West Sikkim and a solitary one in North Sikkim.

Sikkim has 532 active cases at present, while 1486 patients have recovered. The Himalayan state has tested 44,520 samples so far.

Chhattisgarh records 2,438 new COVID-19 cases, 25 deaths
Chhattisgarh reported 2,438 new coronavirus cases and 25 deaths on Friday, taking the statewide case tally to 58,643 and death toll to 518, a health official said.

The day saw discharge of 1,138 patients from hospitals following recovery while 130 patients completed home isolation, taking the total number of recoveries to 27,123.

The state now has 31,002 active cases, the official said.

Of the 2,438 fresh cases found in 27 districts, the maximum were reported in Raipur district (715 cases), followed by Rajnandgaon (288), Durg (231), Bilaspur (209) and Janjgir- Champa (106).

The new cases also included nine persons who have arrived in Chhattisgarh from other states.

Of the latest 25 fatalities, eight took place on Friday, 11 on Thursday, four on September 9 and two on September 8, said the official.

The state has recorded over 45,500 cases just in the last one month.

With 20,465 cases, Raipur district tops the tally in the state and has witnessed 239 deaths.

Chhattisgarh's COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 58,643, new cases 2,438, death toll 518, recovered 27,123, active cases 31,002, people tested so far 7,56,163.

Odisha Minister Swain tests positive for Covid-19

Odisha's Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain on Friday said that he has tested positive for Covid-19.

Confirming this through his Twitter handle, Swain said he was asymptomatic and under home isolation as advised by the doctor.

"I have been tested positive for #Covid-19. Although I don't have any symptoms I am at home isolation as advised by my doctor. I have requested all my staff and each one who came in contact to get them tested as soon as possible," tweeted Swain.

Swain became the sixth Minister in the state to be infected by coronavirus.

Earlier in the day, Odisha's Women and Child Development and Mission Shakti Minister Tukuni Sahu confirmed that she has tested positive for Covid-19.

Tourism Minister Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi, Labour Minister Susanta Singh, Higher Education Minister Arun Kumar Sahu and Textiles and Handlooms Minister Padmini Dian had also been infected with the virus.

Maha crosses 1m-mark with staggering 24,886 new cases 

Maharashtra crossed the 1 million-case mark by adding a staggering 24,886 new Covid-19 cases -- the highest till date -- besides recording the second-highest single-day death toll of 442, health officials said here on Friday.

With this spurt of 24,886 cases -- zooming past the previous peak of 23,816 cases (September 9) -- the state's Covid-19 tally reached 10,15,681, spiralling up to rub shoulders with Russia, the world's fourth worst-hit country having 10,51,874 total cases and 18,365 deaths, as per the Worldometer dashboard.

The state also reported 442 more fatalities, the second-highest after the peak of 495 deaths reported on September 10, pushing up the state's death toll to 28,724.

There was one death roughly every 3 minutes and a whopping 1,036 new cases added every hour to the state tally.

The state's recovery rate dropped from 70.72 per cent to 70.04 per cent, while the current mortality rate stood at 2.83 per cent on Friday.

On a positive note, 14,308 fully recovered patients returned home on Friday, taking the total number of discharges to 715,023, much higher than the 271,566 active cases currently present in the state.

Gujarat records 1,344 new cases, 16 more deaths

Gujarat on Friday recorded 1,344 new coronavirus cases, taking its tally to 1,10,971, while the death toll rose to 3,183 as 16 more patients succumbed.

In September so far, Gujarat has added 14,536 cases with a daily average of 1,321.

Meanwhile, 1,240 patients were discharged on Friday, taking the total to 91,470, while there are 16,318 active cases, out of which 94 critical patients are on ventilator.

Of the new cases, Surat led with 275, followed by Ahmedabad with 174, Rajkot with 150, Vadodara with 132 and Jamnagar with 116.

COVID recoveries outnumber new cases in Andhra, tally 5.47L

Andhra Pradesh on Friday registered 9,999 new COVID positive cases, increasing the state's tally to 5.47 lakh, even as 11,069 patients recovered from the virus.

"Across the state, 9,999 people have tested positive for coronavirus, even as 11,069 people recovered from the virus," said a health official.

East Godavari (1,499), West Godavari (1,081) and Chittoor (1,040) districts registered more than 1,000 cases each.

Among other places, Guntur accounted for 920 infections, followed by Prakasham (901), Nellore (778) and Kadapa (698).

Meanwhile, 77 more patients succumbed to the virus, raising the statewide death toll to 4,779. After a gap of one day, the tally of COVID deaths returned to the daily average of 70s.

However, on a positive note, COVID recoveries outnumbered infections in the past 24 hours with 11,069 discharges, taking the total recoveries in the state to 4.46 lakh.

Of the 5.47 lakh total cases in Andhra Pradesh, 96,191 are active.

Active cases in Karnataka below 1L as recoveries increase

Bengaluru: The number of active COVID cases in Karnataka dipped below the 1 lakh-mark as 12,545 patients recovered and were discharged from the hospital and COVID care centres on Friday, the health department said.

With 9,464 positive cases getting reported from across the state in the last 24 hours, the total number of active cases in the state presently stands at 98,326, while the overall COVID tally of Karnataka mounted to 4,40,411. The total number of discharges in the state stands at 3,34,999.

In the last 10 days, the average number of patients recovered and discharged from hospitals and COVID care centres were 6,000 to 8,000.

Previously, the highest number of patients (9,575) recovered and discharged was reported on September 6 while the lowest number (5,159) was reported on September 1.

According to the health department, the death toll reached 7,067 with 130 more deaths due to COVID in the state.

Bengaluru Urban topped the list with 3,426 positive cases and 30 deaths. 13 deaths were reported in Mysuru followed by Dharwad and Belagavi (9 each) and Ballary and Shivamogga (8 each).

So far, 36,50,819 samples have been tested of which 64,669 were tested on Friday.

Odisha Minister Swain tests positive for Covid-19
