The new deaths were reported from the Kashmir Valley, they said.

707 fresh cases take Delhi's COVID-19 tally to 1,46,134; death toll climbs to 4,131

Delhi recorded 707 fresh coronavirus cases on Monday, taking the tally in the city to over 1.46 lakh, while the death toll from the disease mounted to 4,131, authorities said.

The number of tests conducted on Monday stood at 12,323.

Twenty fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department.

From August 2 to 4, daily cases gradually dropped, showing a three-figure count: August 2 (961), August 3 (805) and August 4 (674).

Four Indian Army Gurkha soldiers test COVID-19 positive in Nepal

Four Gurkha soldiers of the Indian Army who were visiting their home in Nepal have tested positive for the coronavirus at a quarantine centre in the country's eastern Sunsari district, officials said on Monday. The Nepalese nationals from the Gurkha regiments of the Indian Army tested positive after their swab samples were collected at a quarantine facility in Dharan Municipality of Sunsari district in Eastern Nepal, Assistant Chief District Officer Mahesh Kumar Pokharel said.

The CM had tested positive for the disease on August 2.

Uttar Pradesh on Monday reported 51 more deaths due to COVID-19, pushing the fatalities due to the disease to 2,120.  The total number of infected persons has now gone up to 1,26,722 with 4,113 fresh cases reported in the state in the last 24 hours, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said.

A man allegedly committed suicide by jumping off from the third floor of GGH building in Ongole of Prakasam district after contracting Covid-19 infection. 

He along with his mother and brother were receiving treatment in the same ward of the hospital.

Odisha's COVID-19 caseload crosses 47,000-mark

Odisha registered its highest single-day spike in COVID-19 deaths on Monday as 14 patients succumbed to the disease, while 1,528 new infections pushed its caseload to 47,455, a health official said.

The fresh fatalities have taken the COVID-19 death toll in the state to 286, he said.

Ganjam district, Odisha's COVID-19 hotspot, reported six of the 14 fatalities, while Khurda and Nayagarh registered three deaths each and two patients succumbed to the infection in Sundergarh and Rayagada districts, the official said.

Worst-hit Ganjam has so far reported 137 COVID-19 deaths, followed by 38 in Khurda, he said.

Greater Noida Zone 3 DCP Rajesh Kumar Singh along with his son, gunner and driver tested positive for coronavirus.

DCP Rajesh Kumar and his son were admitted to Yathartha hospital while the driver and gunner were admitted to NIMS hospital.  

Meanwhile, the officials who came in contact with DCP Rajesh Kumar during the two-day visit of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to Nodia have self-quarantined themselves.

20 security personnel among 38 fresh COVID-19 cases in Arunachal

Thirty-eight more people, including 20 security personnel, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, taking the northeastern state's caseload to 2,155 on Monday, a health official said.

Eleven of the fresh cases were reported in East Kameng district, five in East Siang, four in Lower Siang, three each in the Capital Complex region and West Siang and Tirap districts, two each in Anjaw, Papumpare, Tawang and Namsai and one in Upper Siang district, State Surveillance Officer Dr L Jampa said.

"Twenty paramilitary personnel, including nine in East Kameng, three each in West Siang, East Siang and Tirap and one each in Anjaw and Papumpare districts, are among the new patients," he said.

All, barring five, are asymptomatic and they have been shifted to COVID Care Centres, Jampa said.

New Delhi: India's novel coronavirus tally crossed the 22-lakh mark on Monday with 62,064 new cases, while the death toll climbed to 44,386 with 1,007 more fatalities, the Health Ministry said.

The recoveries surged to 15,35,743 with a record 54,859 more people recuperating in the past 24 hours, taking the recovery rate to 69.33 per cent. The case fatality rate has dropped to about 2 per cent, the ministry said.

There are 6,34,945 active cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The total coronavirus cases now stands at 22,15,074, including 44,386 deaths, according to the ministry data.

Active coronavirus cases in worst-hit Maharashtra have now reached 1,45,865.

Taking to Twitter, the Union Health Ministry informed that India's COVID-19 recoveries cross the historic peak of 1.5 million and the infection is now concentrated in 10 States that contribute more than 80 per cent of the new cases.

"India's #COVID19 recoveries cross the historic peak of 1.5 million. Recovery of more than 15 lakh has been made possible because of the policy of TESTING aggressively, TRACKING comprehensively & TREATING efficiently. Better ambulance services, focus on Standard of Care & use of non-invasive oxygen have given desired results," MoHFW tweeted.

"#COVID19 infection still remains concentrated in 10 States that contribute more than 80% of the new cases," the ministry tweeted.  

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 4,77,023 samples were tested on August 9 while over 2.45 crore samples have been tested so far.

This is the fourth consecutive day that the COVID-19 cases have increased by more than 60,000.
