A total of 364 more persons tested coronavirus positive in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday even as 627 COVID-19 patients recovered in the Union Territory.
The Information and Public Relations Department said 147 new cases were reported in Jammu division and 217 in Kashmir division, taking the UT's total tally to 92,225.

Andhra registers 1,901 new Covid cases as recoveries outnumber

Andhra Pradesh has registered 1,901 new Covid positive cases, increasing the state's tally to 8.08 lakh, even as 3,972 more recoveries outnumbered infections.
AP has tested only 51,544 samples for Coronavirus in the past 24 hours, compared to the usual average of around 70,000 tests, resulting in fewer infections.

Kerala reports 4,287 new COVID-19 cases

Kerala has reported 4,287 new COVID-19 cases, taking the state's count of active coronavirus cases to 93,747, said Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday.

 "Kerala reports 4,287 new COVID-19 cases taking active cases to 93,747," said Chief Minister Vijayan during a press conference here. Meanwhile, an audit for August and the first week of September by the Kerala Government revealed that failure of "reverse quarantine" (home quarantine) had led to 61 COVID-19 deaths.

Maharashtra slashes Covid test rates at pvt labs to Rs 980

In a huge relief for the people, the Maharashtra government on Monday announced a slash in the tariffs for the basic Covid-19 tests in private labs to just Rs 980.
This is the fourth time in the past eight months that the state has cut the test rates for private testing, starting from the original rate of Rs 4,500 to now only Rs 980.

Telangana's downward trend: Reports 582 new corona cases

Continuing its downward slide, Telangana on Monday reported 582 new coronavirus cases as authorities conducted fewer tests taking its total tally to 2,31,834. The active cases now total 18,611, of which 15,582 are in-home or institutional isolation.

During the last 24 hours, only 14,729 tests were conduced compared with 27,055 a day earlier. On Sunday, the state had reported 978 cases.

Four more COVID-19 patients succumbed during the period, taking the death toll to 1,311. The fatality rate of Telangana stands at 0.56 per cent as against the national average of 1.5 per cent.

Officials said the percentage of deaths due to COVID-19 was 44.96 while the remaining 55.04 had comorbidities.

Greater Hyderabad reported 175 new cases. For the second consecutive day, none of the other districts reported new cases in three digits. Nalgonda recorded the second-highest 87 cases, followed by Rangareddy (55), Medchal Malkajgiri (38) and Sangareddy (31).

Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar tests positive  

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Monday said that he had tested COVID positive and got himself admitted to a private city hospital.

Making an announcement on the social media, Nationalist Congress Party senior leader Pawar, 61, said he was asymptomatic but as advised by his doctors got himself admitted to Breach Candy Hospital as a precautionary measure.

"My health is perfect. After a bit of rest I shall be in your midst soon," Pawar said in a message, four days after he had gone into isolation after feeling feverish.

He appealed to all, including NCP activists, to take care and not worry about his condition.

Ajit Pawar had remained absent at a major public function last week when senior state politician Eknath Khadse quit the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party and joined the NCP.

Ajit Pawar joins the long list of state VIPs who have been infected by coronavirus in the past months, including around 15 Ministers.

Just two days ago, Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis tested positive, followed by Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das, who went into isolation after his report came positive on Sunday.

With spike of 45,149 cases, India's tally reaches 79,09,960 

With 45,149 new COVID-19 cases, India's total cases surged to 79,09,960 on Monday, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

With 480 new deaths, the COVID-19 toll mounted to 1,19,014, as per the Union Health Ministry.

The number of total active COVID-19 cases stood at 6,53,717 after a decrease of 14,437 in the last 24 hours. Total cured cases stand at 71,37,229 with 59,105 new discharges in the last 24 hours.  

With 1,41,001 total active cases, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state by COVID-19 in the country. While 14,60,755 patients have recovered from the disease in the state, 43,264 have died so far.

Among other severely affected states, Karnataka has 81,069 active cases, while 7,10,843 people have recovered and 10,905 have succumbed to the coronavirus.

Kerala has 96,688 active cases, while 2,94,910 patients have been cured so far in the state along with 1,332 deaths reported due to the disease.

West Bengal has 37,017 active cases, while Tamil Nadu and the national capital Delhi have 30,606 and 26,744 active cases respectively.

Meanwhile, a total of 10,34,62,778 samples tested for COVID-19 up to 25th October. Of these 9,39,309 samples were tested yesterday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Meghalaya health minister tests positive for COVID-19
Meghalaya Health Minister AL Hek has tested positive for COVID-19 and is undergoing home isolation, an official said on Sunday.

Hek is the second minister in the state to have contracted the disease. Earlier, power minister James P K Sangma was diagnosed with the infection.

Hek, also a senior BJP leader in the state, was found positive for the infection on Saturday and has been asymptomatic, Health Services director Aman War said.

The minister had recently returned from Delhi where he met several BJP leaders.

At least 136 more people, including the health minister, tested positive for the disease, taking the tally in the northeastern state to 8,914, War said.

The death toll rose to 81 after one more patient succumbed to the disease, he said.

Meghalaya now has 1,605 active coronavirus cases.

21 more die in Andhra, toll at 6,587

As many as 21 more people have succumbed to the coronavirus in Andhra Pradesh which reported a spike of 2,997 fresh cases taking the infection count to 8,07,023 and death toll to 6,587, health officials said on Sunday.

Five people succumbed to the virus in Chittoor district and three in Kadapa. Anantapur, East Godavari, Guntur, Krishna and Visakhapatnam accounted for two deaths each. One person each died in Nellore, Vizianagaram and West Godavari.

According to the officials, the state conducted 67,419 tests, including 29,679 rapid antigen tests. With this, the state has so far conducted 75,70,352 tests.

At least 3,585 people recovered on Sunday, taking the number of recoveries to 7,69,576.

Recoveries outnumber fresh cases in J&K

Recoveries outnumbered the fresh Covid-19 cases in Jammu & Kashmir on Sunday as 639 patients recovered from the deadly virus while 532 new cases were reported.

The statement issued by the Information and Public Relations department said 532 cases were reported in J&K of which 177 were from Jammu division and 355 from Kashmir while 639 patients recovered from the infection and were discharged from the hospitals and Covid care centres.

Eight deaths were also reported on Sunday.

The total tally in the Union Territory reached 91,861 out of which 82,858 have recovered and 1,438 people have died. Total number of active cases in the UT are 7,565, out of which 2,358 are in Jammu division and 5,207 in Kashmir.

Covid-19 eases grip, Mumbai records half of Maha's fatalities

Maharashtra's Covid-19 situation remained positive with falling deaths and cases, though the Mumbai Metropolitan Region recorded half the state's fatalities, health officials said here on Sunday.

The state witnessed just 112 deaths - compared with the peak of 515 (Sep. 15), and ower than the previous low of 125 recorded on October 19 - and the state fatalities shot up from 43,152 to 43,264 now.

The state recorded 6,059 new cases - less than one-third compared with the peak single-day tally of 24,886 (Sep. 11), and the state tally jumped from 16,38,961 to 16,45,020 cases till date.

The state recovery rate continued to remain high but dropped from 88.78 per cent to 88.08 per cent - while the current mortality (death) rate stood 2.63 per cent.

Simultaneously, another chunk of 5,648 fully recovered patients returned home - taking up the total number of discharged patients from 14,55,107 to 14,60,755 till date - much higher than the 140,486 'active cases' (ill) currently in the state.

As per Sunday's figures, there was one death roughly every 13 minutes and 252 new cases added every hour to the state tally.

Ex-Assam CM recovers, discharged from hospital after 60 days

Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi (85) was discharged from the hospital after more than 60 days on Sunday after he recovered from the Covid-19 infection, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Sarma in a tweet said, "Former Chief Minister of Assam Sri Tarun Gogoi has been discharged from Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) today (Sunday) after 60 days of hospitalisation. His further treatment shall continue in his official residence under the supervision of the Doctors from medical college. My best wishes."

Gogoi, who had tested positive for Covid-19 on August 25, was administered plasma therapy after his condition deteriorated.

Agra records 142 deaths, recovery rate goes up to 91.95%

While the number of fatalities from Covid-19 has gone up alarmingly to 142 in the Taj city, the recovery rate continues to show an encouraging trend. In the last four days, there have been four deaths, but the number of patients discharged so far after recovery has gone up to 6,450.

With 35 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, the total number of Covid-19 cases now is 7,015 cases. District magistrate PN Singh said 2,52,636 samples had been collected in the district so far. The number of active cases has come down to 423.

The daily figures for October show a declining trend and speak of the success of the multi-pronged strategy implemented by the district administration to battle Covid-19.

The Agra Model has been talked about in administrative circles. From the high of 150 odd daily cases in September, the October situation is relatively better as the daily reporting of the number of Covid-19 cases has come down to below 50, though there has been no drop in the sample testing figures.

During the last 24 hours, authorities tested 27,055 samples, of which 978 were found positive.

Four more COVID patients succumbed to the virus, taking the state's death toll to 1,307. The fatality rate now stands at 0.56 per cent as against the national average of 1.5 per cent.

Officials said the percentage of deaths due to COVID-19 was 44.96 while the remaining 55.04 had comorbidities.

According to the daily media bulletin released by the office of the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, 1,446 more recoveries during the 24-hour period till 8 pm on Saturday took the state's recovery rate to 91.01 per cent as against the national average of 89.9 per cent.

Active cases in Telangana now total 19,465, of which 16,430 are in-home or institutional isolation.

With 27,055 more tests during the last 24 hours, the state's total tests climbed up to 40,79,688.

Out of 27,055 samples tested, 24,579 samples were tested in government labs and 2,476 in private ones. Of the total samples, 11,904 were primary and 3,246 were secondary.

Ex-Assam CM recovers, discharged from hospital after 60 days
