Two policemen die of coronavirus infection in Mumbai

 A 50-year-old assistant police inspector and a head constable posted in Mumbai have died due to COVID-19, officials said on Friday.

The assistant police inspector is the second officer from the Mumbai police force to die due to coronavirus infection. A total of 40 police personnel have died due to COVID-19 in Mumbai.

So far, the virus has claimed the lives of 64 police personnel including four officers in Maharashtra.

Five more die of COVID, 153 fresh cases in Punjab

Five more persons died of coronavirus in Punjab on Friday, taking the death toll to 157 while 153 new cases pushed the tally to 5,937 in the state.

Three fatalities were reported in Amritsar and two in Ludhiana, as per the state health department's medical bulletin.

Among the new cases, 54 were reported in Ludhiana, 19 in Jalandhar, 18 in Sangrur, 12 in Patiala, 11 in Amritsar, 10 in Gurdaspur, six each in SBS Nagar and Tarn Taran, four each in Moga and Mohali, two in Ferozepur and one each in Bathinda, Kapurthala, Barnala, Fazilka, Faridkot, Hoshiarpur and Pathankot.

Of these cases, seven were foreign returnees and 14 people had travel history to other states.

One more YSR Congress MLA tests positive for COVID-19

 Yet another MLA of the ruling YSR Congress in Andhra Pradesh tested positive for coronavirus on Friday but he was asymptomatic.

The first-time MLA from Guntur district himself announced this through a video in the social media. "I have no symptoms but tested positive for COVID-19.

I have gone into home quarantine and will recover soon with all your good wishes," the MLA said. He is the third legislator of the ruling party to have tested positive for the virus. Meanwhile, the COVID-19 tally in the state crossed the 13,000-mark to reach 13,098 with a record single day spike of 813 cases today.

2,520 fresh COVID-19 cases in Delhi take tally to over 94K; death toll rises to 2,923

Delhi recorded 2,520 fresh coronavirus cases on Friday, taking the tally in the city to over 94,000, while the death toll from the disease mounted to 2,923,the authorities said.

On June 23, the national capitalhad reported the highest single-day spike till date of 3,947 cases.

However, in the last five days, the number of fresh cases has oscillated, not showing a particular trend in figures.

The number of cases reported from June 28 to July 1 are -- 2,889 cases (June 28); 2,084 (June 29); 2,199 (June 30); and 2,442 (July 1), with a steady rise in death figures.

Fifty-nine fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, the Delhi health department bulletin said on Friday.

The death toll from COVID-19 in Delhi stood at 2,864 on Thursday.

The bulletin said the death toll from coronavirus infection has risen to 2,923 andthe total number of cases has mounted to 94,695.

Rajasthan reports 10 more COVID-19 deaths, 390 new cases

Rajasthan reported 10 more COVID-19 deaths on Friday, taking their number to 440 as 390 new cases of the infection pushed the tally in the state to 19,052.

Three deaths were reported in Dholpur, two in Sirohi and one death each from Bharatpur, Bikaner, Dungarpur and Ajmer. One person from outside the state also died of the disease, officials said.

Of the fresh cases, 57 were reported in Jodhpur, 51 in Jaipur, 34 in Bharatpur, 32 each in Pratapgarh and Kota, 28 in Bikaner, 24 in Sirohi, 21 in Ajmer, 20 in Dausa, 17 in Udaipur and 13 in Nagaur, besides cases from other districts, an official report stated.

As many as 14,952 patients have been discharged and 3,331 cases are active in the state, it said.

Karnataka reports biggest single day spike of 1,694 COVID-19 cases, overall tally rises to 19,710

Karnataka on Friday reported its biggest single day spike of 1,694 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of infections in the state to 19,710, the Health department said.

The state also recorded 21 fatalities pushing the death toll to 293. The day also saw 471 patients getting discharged after recovery; even as 201 patients in the state were undergoing treatment in ICU.

Of the 1,694 fresh cases reported today, a whopping 994 cases were from Bengaluru Urban alone.

2-year-old among 7 new COVID-19 cases in HP; tally now at 1,022

 Seven more people, including a two-year-old child, tested positive for COVID-19 in Himachal Pradesh on Friday, bringing the state's tally to 1,022, officials said.

Three of the fresh cases were reported from Hamirpur, two from Chamba and one each from Solan and Mandi districts, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) R D Dhiman said.

Four more COVID-19 deaths in Haryana, 494 fresh cases

 Haryana on Friday reported four more COVID-19 deaths, taking the toll to 255 as 494 fresh cases took the total number of infections in the state to 16,003.

All the four deaths were reported from Faridabad, taking the number of fatalities in the district to 87, according to the state Health department's daily bulletin.

The number of active cases in the state stands at 4,057, while 11,691 patients have been discharged after recovery, it said.

The recovery rate on Friday was at 73.06 per cent.

Of the fresh cases, 156 are in Faridabad, 130 in Gurgaon, 46 in Sonipat, 38 in Rewari and 20 are in Nuh.

64 more test COVID-19 positive in U'khand, total 3,048

 Sixty-fourmore people tested positive for COVID-19 in Uttarakhand on Friday, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 3,048.

A state health department bulletin said Dehradun reported 21 cases, Nainital 13, Udham Singh Nagar 12, Almora eight, Bageshwar three, Chamoli, Champawat and Haridwar two each and Pithoragarh one.

As many as 2,481 COVID-19 patients in Uttarakhand have recovered,42 have died of the disease, 27 have migrated out of the state and 498 are under treatment, it said.

Goa reports 2nd highest single-day spike of 94 cases

Panaji: Goa reported the second-highest single-day surge in the number of COVID-19 patients so far on Friday with 94 new cases, taking its tally beyond the 1,500- mark, the state health department said.

 On Thursday, the state had reported 95 cases, its highest single-day spike so far.

The number of cases in the state now stands at 1,576, of which 800 are active ones, the department said. It added that 38 people recovered from the infection

during the day.

Of the 3,320 samples tested on Friday, 2,609 were found negative, while the results of 617 others are awaited, the bulletin reads.

Bengal's COVID-19 tally crosses 20K-mark with record one-day spike of 669 cases

Kolkata: The number of COVID-19 cases in West Bengal crossed the 20,000-mark as the state reported its highest single-day spike of 669 new infections on Friday, according to a bulletin issued by the Health Department.

The fresh cases pushed the virus count to 20,488 in the state, it added.

The state also reported the highest number of fatalities on a single day at 18, raising the death toll to 717, the bulletin said.

 There are 6,200 active COVID-19 cases in the state at present.

Since Thursday, 534 people have been discharged from different hospitals in the state after they recovered from the infection.

In the last 24 hours, a record 11,053 samples were tested for COVID-19, it said.

Gujarat: COVID-19 count crosses 34,000-mark with 687 new cases

Ahmedabad: Gujarat recorded its highest single-day spike of 687 new coronavirus positive cases so far on Friday, due to which the state's overall tally crossed the 34,000-mark, the health department said. This is for the seventh consecutive day that the state has reported 600-plus fresh COVID-19 cases.

J-K's COVID-19 tally crosses 8,000-mark; death toll reaches 119

Srinagar: The total number of COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir crossed the 8,000-mark on Friday with 170 fresh infections, while the death toll in the Union Territory reached 119 following the demise of four patients, officials said.

The four fatalities were reported from Kashmir, they said.

This has taken the death toll due to COVID-19 to 119 in the UT. Of these, 14 belonged to Jammu province and 105 were from Kashmir division.

Meanwhile, 170 new cases were detected in Jammu and Kashmir during the past 24 hours.

MP's COVID-19 count grows to 14,297, death toll reaches 593

Bhopal: The number of COVID-19 cases in Madhya Pradesh touched 14,297 on Friday as 191 people tested coronavirus positive, while the overall death toll reached 593 as four people succumbed to the infection during the day, an official said.

While Indore reported two deaths, Bhopal and Harda registered one fatality each, he said. A total of 234 people were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the recovery count to 11,049, he added.

"Of the 191 new cases, 49 were from Bhopal, 23 from Indore and 18 from Gwalior. Indore now has 4,776 cases, including 238 deaths. The number of cases in Bhopal is 2,933, and 105 have died of the infection," the official said.

A health bulletin said that no new coronavirus case has been reported in 15 districts, while two districts did not have any active case as on Friday.

The state has 1,077 containment zones, it added. The coronavirus figures in MP are as follows: Total cases: 14,297, active cases: 2,655, new cases: 191, death toll: 593, recovered: 11,049, number of people tested: 3,89,180.

UP suffers worst single-day spike in infections, cases cross 25k-mark

Uttar Pradesh on Friday suffered the steepest single-day spike in coronavirus infections with 972 people testing positive for it, making the COVID-19 cases cross 25,000-mark in the state, an official said.

The state's COVID-19 death count too rose to 749 with 14 more people dying of it in the last 24 hours, he said.

Additional Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said there are 7,451 active cases in the state and so far a total of 17,597 people have been discharged from hospitals after recovery.

The total number of positive cases has mounted to 25,797, he added.

On the positive side, the testing capacity in the state has exceeded 25,000-mark a day, he said.

Kerala reports a highest single-day spike of 211 COVID-19 cases, tally nearing 5000 mark

Kerala's COVID-19 tally is galloping towards the 5,000 mark, with the state recording the highest single-day spike of 211 cases and recoveries touching 201 on Friday. Of the positive cases, 138 had come from abroad and39 from other states and 27 were infected through contact, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters.

Senior government doctor passed away due to Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: A senior government doctor working in Chengalpattu district of Tamil Nadu passed away due to Covid-19 on Friday at the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital here.

Dr Sukumar was not responding to treatment.

DMK President M.K. Stalin condoled his death and alleged the incident showcased the AIADMK government's "carelessness in protecting frontline corona warriors" against the deadly virus.

Stalin urged the government to provide protective gears to medical professionals in sufficient numbers in the southern state.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu on Friday crossed the grim milestone of one lakh COVID-19 cases with the state reporting 4,329 fresh infections and 64 fatalities, pushing the death toll to 1,385.

The new cases took the state's virus tally to 1,02,721, the health department said in its bulletin. Out of the 4,329 new cases, 2,082 were from Chennai alone.

The total number of those who recovered grew to 58,378, with 2,357 people being discharged from health care institutions on Friday. With the government ramping up testing, 35,028 samples were tested today, pushing the count to 12,70,720.

According to the bulletin, there are 42,955 active cases in the state including those in isolation wards. Sixty-five people who tested positive today are returnees from various locations, according to the bulletin.

3 fresh COVID-19 cases in Meghalaya; count rises to 62

Shillong: Three persons, including two BSF personnel, tested positive for COVID-19 in Meghalaya on Friday, taking the state's tally to 62, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said.

The two infected BSF personnel are from East Khasi Hills district while the civilian is from Ri Bhoi, he said. With three new patients, the number of fresh cases reported in Meghalaya in the last 24 hours has risen to six, a senior health official said.

Of the 62 cases, 18 are active while 43 persons have recovered and one patient has died, he said. Samples of 20,000 people entering the state have been collected so far, the official said, adding that 6,000 tests per million population have been conducted.

4 fresh COVID-19 cases in Nagaland; count rises to 539

 Kohima: Four more persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Nagaland, taking the state's tally to 539 on Friday, Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said.

Three new patients are from quarantine centres in Mon district and one is from Peren district, he said.

 Thirty-one people, 10 each from Peren, Kohima and Dimapur and one from Phek district, have recovered from COVID-19, the minister said.

Of the 539 cases, 311 are active while 228 people have recovered, Phom said.

The recovery rate has increased to 42.3 per cent from 36.82 per cent on Thursday, he added.

The COVID-19 case count in Dharavi, Mumbai's biggest slum, increased to 2,309 as eight new cases were reported on Friday, a senior official of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

The civic body has, however, stopped disclosing the number of deaths from the slum dominated area since the last few days without specifying any reason.

The BMC official said that Dharavi now has only 551 active COVID-19 cases, as 1,672 patients have been discharged post-recovery.

Dharavi's COVID-19 case doubling rate is 140 days as per the average of last seven days and its average growth rate is 0.55 per cent, he said.

Dharavi is said to be the largest slum in Asia spread over 2.5 square kilometres of area and has a population of around 6.5 lakh.

BJP MP Locket Chatterjee on Friday said she has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a tweet, the general secretary of the BJP's West Bengal unit said she has a mild fever.

"I have tested positive for Covid19 this morning, having mild fever and was in self-isolation for the past one week. I will keep everyone posted. All is well," she said.

Chatterjee, who left her acting career to join politics, is the Lok Sabha MP from Hooghly in West Bengal.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state crossed the 6,000-mark on Thursday to reach 6,083. So far, 699 people have died of the disease and 13,037 have recovered from it in the state.

Four CCB cops test positive for COVID-19 in Mangaluru

Four central crime branch (CCB) police personnel tested positive for coronavirus on Friday in Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka. So far, eighteen police personnel, including an official of the ACP rank and 12 from Ullal police station, have tested positive for COVID-19 in the district in the last few days, police sources said.

A policeman from Mangaluru Rural station and another from Puttur station have also been infected. All the personnel who tested positive have been admitted to the designated COVID-19 hospitals. City police commissioner Vikash Kumar Vikash said adequate protection has been provided to police personnel who were fighting the pandemic and the members of their families. As of Thursday, the total coronavirus cases in the district stood at 923 and the toll 18 while the state's infection count has crossed the 18,000 mark with 272 deaths.

Arunachal Pradesh coronavirus update; highest single-day spike of 37 COVID-19 cases, tally 232

Arunachal Pradesh reported its highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases on Friday after 37 more people, including an NDRF staffer, tested positive for the disease, taking the state's tally of coronavirus patients to 232, a senior health official said.

New Delhi: India reported the highest ever single-day spike of 20,903 COVID-19 cases in 24 hours on Friday, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

With these new cases, India's coronavirus tally has risen to 6,25,544 cases of which 2,27,439 patients are active cases while 3,79,892 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated.

379 more deaths due to COVID-19 were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, taking the number of deaths due to the infection to 18,213.

As per the Health Ministry, Maharashtra the worst-affected state from the virus has a total of 1,86,626 cases including 8,178 fatalities while Tamil Nadu has 98,392 coronavirus cases in the state inclusive of 1,321 fatalities.

Delhi has reported 92,175 cases so far inclusive of 2,864 patients succumbing to the virus.

The Indian Council of Medical Research on Friday said that the total number of samples tested till July 2 is 92,97,749 of which 2,41,576 samples were tested on Thursday.

 Seven more people, including a two-year-old child, tested positive for COVID-19 in Himachal Pradesh on Friday, bringing the state's tally to 1,022, officials said.

Three of the fresh cases were reported from Hamirpur, two from Chamba and one each from Solan and Mandi districts, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) R D Dhiman said.

Four more COVID-19 deaths in Haryana, 494 fresh cases

 Haryana on Friday reported four more COVID-19 deaths, taking the toll to 255 as 494 fresh cases took the total number of infections in the state to 16,003.

All the four deaths were reported from Faridabad, taking the number of fatalities in the district to 87, according to the state Health department's daily bulletin.

The number of active cases in the state stands at 4,057, while 11,691 patients have been discharged after recovery, it said.

The recovery rate on Friday was at 73.06 per cent.

Of the fresh cases, 156 are in Faridabad, 130 in Gurgaon, 46 in Sonipat, 38 in Rewari and 20 are in Nuh.

64 more test COVID-19 positive in U'khand, total 3,048

 Sixty-fourmore people tested positive for COVID-19 in Uttarakhand on Friday, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 3,048.

A state health department bulletin said Dehradun reported 21 cases, Nainital 13, Udham Singh Nagar 12, Almora eight, Bageshwar three, Chamoli, Champawat and Haridwar two each and Pithoragarh one.

As many as 2,481 COVID-19 patients in Uttarakhand have recovered,42 have died of the disease, 27 have migrated out of the state and 498 are under treatment, it said.

Goa reports 2nd highest single-day spike of 94 cases

Panaji: Goa reported the second-highest single-day surge in the number of COVID-19 patients so far on Friday with 94 new cases, taking its tally beyond the 1,500- mark, the state health department said.

 On Thursday, the state had reported 95 cases, its highest single-day spike so far.

The number of cases in the state now stands at 1,576, of which 800 are active ones, the department said. It added that 38 people recovered from the infection

during the day.

Of the 3,320 samples tested on Friday, 2,609 were found negative, while the results of 617 others are awaited, the bulletin reads.

Bengal's COVID-19 tally crosses 20K-mark with record one-day spike of 669 cases

Kolkata: The number of COVID-19 cases in West Bengal crossed the 20,000-mark as the state reported its highest single-day spike of 669 new infections on Friday, according to a bulletin issued by the Health Department.

The fresh cases pushed the virus count to 20,488 in the state, it added.

The state also reported the highest number of fatalities on a single day at 18, raising the death toll to 717, the bulletin said.

 There are 6,200 active COVID-19 cases in the state at present.

Since Thursday, 534 people have been discharged from different hospitals in the state after they recovered from the infection.

In the last 24 hours, a record 11,053 samples were tested for COVID-19, it said.

Gujarat: COVID-19 count crosses 34,000-mark with 687 new cases

Ahmedabad: Gujarat recorded its highest single-day spike of 687 new coronavirus positive cases so far on Friday, due to which the state's overall tally crossed the 34,000-mark, the health department said. This is for the seventh consecutive day that the state has reported 600-plus fresh COVID-19 cases.

J-K's COVID-19 tally crosses 8,000-mark; death toll reaches 119

Srinagar: The total number of COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir crossed the 8,000-mark on Friday with 170 fresh infections, while the death toll in the Union Territory reached 119 following the demise of four patients, officials said.

The four fatalities were reported from Kashmir, they said.

This has taken the death toll due to COVID-19 to 119 in the UT. Of these, 14 belonged to Jammu province and 105 were from Kashmir division.

Meanwhile, 170 new cases were detected in Jammu and Kashmir during the past 24 hours.

MP's COVID-19 count grows to 14,297, death toll reaches 593

Bhopal: The number of COVID-19 cases in Madhya Pradesh touched 14,297 on Friday as 191 people tested coronavirus positive, while the overall death toll reached 593 as four people succumbed to the infection during the day, an official said.

While Indore reported two deaths, Bhopal and Harda registered one fatality each, he said. A total of 234 people were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the recovery count to 11,049, he added.

"Of the 191 new cases, 49 were from Bhopal, 23 from Indore and 18 from Gwalior. Indore now has 4,776 cases, including 238 deaths. The number of cases in Bhopal is 2,933, and 105 have died of the infection," the official said.

A health bulletin said that no new coronavirus case has been reported in 15 districts, while two districts did not have any active case as on Friday.

The state has 1,077 containment zones, it added. The coronavirus figures in MP are as follows: Total cases: 14,297, active cases: 2,655, new cases: 191, death toll: 593, recovered: 11,049, number of people tested: 3,89,180.

UP suffers worst single-day spike in infections, cases cross 25k-mark

Uttar Pradesh on Friday suffered the steepest single-day spike in coronavirus infections with 972 people testing positive for it, making the COVID-19 cases cross 25,000-mark in the state, an official said.

The state's COVID-19 death count too rose to 749 with 14 more people dying of it in the last 24 hours, he said.

Additional Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said there are 7,451 active cases in the state and so far a total of 17,597 people have been discharged from hospitals after recovery.

The total number of positive cases has mounted to 25,797, he added.

On the positive side, the testing capacity in the state has exceeded 25,000-mark a day, he said.

Kerala reports a highest single-day spike of 211 COVID-19 cases, tally nearing 5000 mark

Kerala's COVID-19 tally is galloping towards the 5,000 mark, with the state recording the highest single-day spike of 211 cases and recoveries touching 201 on Friday. Of the positive cases, 138 had come from abroad and39 from other states and 27 were infected through contact, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters.

Senior government doctor passed away due to Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: A senior government doctor working in Chengalpattu district of Tamil Nadu passed away due to Covid-19 on Friday at the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital here.

Dr Sukumar was not responding to treatment.

DMK President M.K. Stalin condoled his death and alleged the incident showcased the AIADMK government's "carelessness in protecting frontline corona warriors" against the deadly virus.

Stalin urged the government to provide protective gears to medical professionals in sufficient numbers in the southern state.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu on Friday crossed the grim milestone of one lakh COVID-19 cases with the state reporting 4,329 fresh infections and 64 fatalities, pushing the death toll to 1,385.

The new cases took the state's virus tally to 1,02,721, the health department said in its bulletin. Out of the 4,329 new cases, 2,082 were from Chennai alone.

The total number of those who recovered grew to 58,378, with 2,357 people being discharged from health care institutions on Friday. With the government ramping up testing, 35,028 samples were tested today, pushing the count to 12,70,720.

According to the bulletin, there are 42,955 active cases in the state including those in isolation wards. Sixty-five people who tested positive today are returnees from various locations, according to the bulletin.

3 fresh COVID-19 cases in Meghalaya; count rises to 62

Shillong: Three persons, including two BSF personnel, tested positive for COVID-19 in Meghalaya on Friday, taking the state's tally to 62, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said.

The two infected BSF personnel are from East Khasi Hills district while the civilian is from Ri Bhoi, he said. With three new patients, the number of fresh cases reported in Meghalaya in the last 24 hours has risen to six, a senior health official said.

Of the 62 cases, 18 are active while 43 persons have recovered and one patient has died, he said. Samples of 20,000 people entering the state have been collected so far, the official said, adding that 6,000 tests per million population have been conducted.

4 fresh COVID-19 cases in Nagaland; count rises to 539

 Kohima: Four more persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Nagaland, taking the state's tally to 539 on Friday, Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said.

Three new patients are from quarantine centres in Mon district and one is from Peren district, he said.

 Thirty-one people, 10 each from Peren, Kohima and Dimapur and one from Phek district, have recovered from COVID-19, the minister said.

Of the 539 cases, 311 are active while 228 people have recovered, Phom said.

The recovery rate has increased to 42.3 per cent from 36.82 per cent on Thursday, he added.

The COVID-19 case count in Dharavi, Mumbai's biggest slum, increased to 2,309 as eight new cases were reported on Friday, a senior official of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

The civic body has, however, stopped disclosing the number of deaths from the slum dominated area since the last few days without specifying any reason.

The BMC official said that Dharavi now has only 551 active COVID-19 cases, as 1,672 patients have been discharged post-recovery.

Dharavi's COVID-19 case doubling rate is 140 days as per the average of last seven days and its average growth rate is 0.55 per cent, he said.

Dharavi is said to be the largest slum in Asia spread over 2.5 square kilometres of area and has a population of around 6.5 lakh.

BJP MP Locket Chatterjee on Friday said she has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a tweet, the general secretary of the BJP's West Bengal unit said she has a mild fever.

"I have tested positive for Covid19 this morning, having mild fever and was in self-isolation for the past one week. I will keep everyone posted. All is well," she said.

Chatterjee, who left her acting career to join politics, is the Lok Sabha MP from Hooghly in West Bengal.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state crossed the 6,000-mark on Thursday to reach 6,083. So far, 699 people have died of the disease and 13,037 have recovered from it in the state.

Four CCB cops test positive for COVID-19 in Mangaluru

Four central crime branch (CCB) police personnel tested positive for coronavirus on Friday in Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka. So far, eighteen police personnel, including an official of the ACP rank and 12 from Ullal police station, have tested positive for COVID-19 in the district in the last few days, police sources said.

A policeman from Mangaluru Rural station and another from Puttur station have also been infected. All the personnel who tested positive have been admitted to the designated COVID-19 hospitals. City police commissioner Vikash Kumar Vikash said adequate protection has been provided to police personnel who were fighting the pandemic and the members of their families. As of Thursday, the total coronavirus cases in the district stood at 923 and the toll 18 while the state's infection count has crossed the 18,000 mark with 272 deaths.

Arunachal Pradesh coronavirus update; highest single-day spike of 37 COVID-19 cases, tally 232

Arunachal Pradesh reported its highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases on Friday after 37 more people, including an NDRF staffer, tested positive for the disease, taking the state's tally of coronavirus patients to 232, a senior health official said.

New Delhi: India reported the highest ever single-day spike of 20,903 COVID-19 cases in 24 hours on Friday, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

With these new cases, India's coronavirus tally has risen to 6,25,544 cases of which 2,27,439 patients are active cases while 3,79,892 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated.

379 more deaths due to COVID-19 were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, taking the number of deaths due to the infection to 18,213.

As per the Health Ministry, Maharashtra the worst-affected state from the virus has a total of 1,86,626 cases including 8,178 fatalities while Tamil Nadu has 98,392 coronavirus cases in the state inclusive of 1,321 fatalities.

Delhi has reported 92,175 cases so far inclusive of 2,864 patients succumbing to the virus.

The Indian Council of Medical Research on Friday said that the total number of samples tested till July 2 is 92,97,749 of which 2,41,576 samples were tested on Thursday.
