New Delhi: With the suspension of all passenger train services across the country in view of the coronavirus pandemic, Indian Railways has decided to extend the time limit of stay in the Retiring Rooms for stranded passengers, till March 31.

"It has been brought to notice that some passengers who were in Retiring rooms and booked their train tickets to travel in a day or two are facing problems as all trains are now cancelled and they don't have a place to stay. Railway Board has decided that in all such cases the stay may be extended in super session of the rule that limits the number of days a passenger can stay in retiring rooms," said a Railway official.

Earlier the time limit for stay at Retiring Rooms remained at 3 hours minimum and 48 hours maximum.

The Railway Board also directed the General Managers and Divisional Railway Managers that this relaxation shall be in force till normal train services are resumed, i.e. on March 31. The Board has also asked authorities to immediately convey these instructions to all the station masters to benefit the stranded passengers.

On Sunday, Indian Railways decides to suspend all passenger trains services including express and mail trains, premium trains, Kolkata Metro Rail, suburban trains etc till the midnight of March 31. However, to unsure the supply of essential goods, trains carrying goods will continue to run as usual.
