While addressing the press conference, Congress spokesperson and MP, Rajeev Gowda called the Electoral Bond scheme 'opaque' and 'money laundering' scheme.

He said, "Congress party has opposed this method because it lacks transparency and fairness from entering the system. Even if bank cheques are used, demonetisation aftermath has shown that anyone who wants to, can convert black money to white through banking channels. Over 99% of demonetised currency return to the system."

"More than 95% of the funds raised through this route have gone to the ruling party. Only the token amount has gone to other parties," he added.

He also cited an RTI, which states that "merely 2 days before unveiling the electoral Bond scheme the Narendra Modi government ignored the Reserve Bank of India's recommendation to not proceed with the scheme because of its adverse effects on the integrity of India's financial system."

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also tweeted, "It appears that while BJP was elected on the promise of eradicating black money it was busy lining. It's own pockets with exactly that! What a shameful betrayal of the Indian people."
