New Delhi: Hitting out at Congress leader Ajay Maken, Bharatiya Janta Party's (BJP) Meenakshi Lekhi Wednesday accused him of being responsible for starting a sealing drive in Delhi when Maken was the Urban Development minister.
"Ajay Maken was Urban Development minister when the problem of sealing started in 2008. He made changes in Delhi's master plan which led to continuous sealing. He is the man responsible for sealing in the first place," Lekhi said in a presser.
Lekhi also hit out at the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAM) government over the issue, saying it had done nothing to stop the sealing drive.
"So far as Arvind Kejriwal's government is concerned, its lawyers have been contesting sealing for almost four years in the court, why could not they stop it," she added.
She alleged that the AAP has demanded full statehood for Delhi to "cover up its failures and mislead the people".
AAP has been campaigning for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections centered around the theme of full statehood for Delhi, accusing the Modi government of using the Lt Governor's office to stop it from happening.
Lekhi also alleged that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has become the "greatest enemy" of Delhi people by obstructing implementation of Ayushman Bharat health scheme.
A large number of commercial establishments and buildings have been sealed under the drive so far.
Both AAP and Congress have been raking up the issue of sealing drive being undertaken by the saffron party led municipal corporations under the guidance of a Supreme Court-mandated monitoring committee, and have been demanding the Modi government to bring an ordinance to stop the sealing.
Maken had said his party will stop sealing within a month after coming to power if elected in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
