New Delhi: A complaint has reportedly been filed with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) against 'Fenty Beauty', the brand owned by pop star Rihanna.
According to the complainant, the mica used in the beauty products is sourced from the mines of Jharkhand, where illegal child labour is used to extract mica.
Following the complaint, NCPCR chairman Priyank Kanungo began investigating the facts. It came to light that there exists a law in California which prohibits the use of human trafficking, slavery and child abuse for the manufacturing of products.
Further, an international body Responsible Mica Initiative (RIM) provides a Supply Chain Clearance Certificate (SCCC) which ensures that no child labour is utilised in the manufacturing of a product.
According to the preliminary investigation by NCPCR, such clearance has not been given to Rihanna's Fenty Beauty brand.

Currently, the NCPCR is investigating on the basis of the complaint and is also taking legal opinions on whether to take action against the pop star.
Earlier this month, Rihanna shared a news article with her 100 million followers on Twitter, calling out the internet shutdown at the protest sites near Kaithal, Panipat, Jind, Rohtak, Charkhi Dadri, Sonipat and Jhajjar districts in Haryana.
"Why aren't we talking about this? #FarmersProtest," the 32-year-old singer wrote.
After Rihanna lent her support to farmers, international names such as climate activist Greta Thunberg and former adult star Mia Khalifa also joined the discourse.
