Amidst aggression by Chinese troops along the Lina of Actual Control, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Rakesh Sinha said that it will be China's mistake if it thinks today's India is the same as that of 1962, when Jawaharlal Nehru was the Prime Minister.

New Delhi: After an article in the Chinese state-run Global Times accused Indian troops of trespassing across the border, BJP MP Rakesh Sinha said it would be a mistake for China to think that today's India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is the same as that of 1962.

Sinha said that the views expressed in the Global Times about Aksai Chin were against international dignity, and even the Indo-China bilateral relations.

The Rajya Sabha MP said that China, through repeated transgressions into the Indian side in the years leading up to the 1962 Sion-Indian war, had occupied Aksai Chin by breaking all international laws.

"Aksai Chin was a part of India, and will continue to remain so," he said.

Sinha added that at a time when the world was reeling under coronavirus, India is extending its full cooperation in the world's fight against the pandemic, and hence will not take part in any provocative actions.

However, China has been giving rise to provocation against India from all sides, he added.

"This is China's mistake, that it thinks today's India is the same as that of 1962. This is not Nehru's India of 1962, but Narendra's Modi India of 2020," he said.

Several areas along the LAC in Ladakh and North Sikkim have witnessed major military build-up recently, in a clear signal of escalating tension and hardening of respective positions by India and China even two weeks after they were engaged in two separate face-offs.

The nearly 3,500-km-long LAC is the de-facto border between the two countries.
