Chhattisgarh soldier killed in India-China clash at Galwan valley

Ganesh Kunjam, a young soldier from Chhattisgarh's Kanker district was among those who killed in Ladakh’s Galwan valley yesterday. The family members of the slain soldier were shocked on hearing the news of their son's death and at the same time were proud of their son who sacrificed his life for the nation.

Kanker (Chhattisgarh): A young soldier, Ganesh Kunjam, from Chhattisgarh's Kanker district was among those killed in Ladakh’s Galwan valley yesterday.

Ganesh Kunjam was the only son among three siblings. He had joined the army in 2011 and was posted at India-China border a month ago. Ganesh's uncle said that he got a call from the army on Tuesday evening informing that Ganesh has been martyred.

The family members of the slain soldier were shocked on hearing the news of their son's death and at the same time were proud of their son who sacrificed his life for the nation.

Although the administration and the police have not yet received any information about the soldier's death, a team of police is investigating the call received by the family of the slain soldier.

Four Indian soldiers are in critical condition after the violent face-off with Chinese troops on Monday evening, according to sources.

The violent clash started on late evening and night of June 15 in Ladakh's Galwan Valley as a result of an attempt by the Chinese troops to unilaterally change the status quo during de-escalation in Eastern Ladakh and the situation could have been avoided if the agreement at the higher level been scrupulously followed by the Chinese side, India had said on Tuesday.

At least 20 Indian soldiers were killed in the violent face-off, government sources had revealed and added that the casualty numbers could rise. Indian intercepts revealed that Chinese side suffered 43 casualties including dead and seriously injured in the violent clash.

After 1975 this is the first violent incident on the India-China border in which casualties have taken place.

A large number of Indian and Chinese troops were engaged in an eyeball-to-eyeball situation in Galwan Valley for the last five weeks.

India and China are engaged in a standoff at multiple points along the Line of Actual Control in Eastern Ladakh where the Chinese People's Liberation Army has amassed over 10,000 troops with its heavy artillery and armoured regiments on its side of the LAC.

The first standoff began on May 5th when Indian and Chinese soldiers clashed at Pangong Tso, which is a lake that extends from India to the Tibetan Autonomous Region, China, with the LAC passing through it.
