Surguja (Chhattisgarh): Non-availability of hearse vehicle at the Lakhanpur community health centre denied dignity to the dead person as the deceased who committed suicide had to be carried on a tractor after his family failed to get an ambulance from the hospital.
Budhuram of Mudesa village who was visiting his daughter in Lakhanpur died after committing suicide on Monday midnight. He was suffering from Paralysis and came here for treatment of his illness.
The local police after arriving at the spot sent the dead body for postmortem.
The family members alleged that no arrangement was made for transporting the body to their native village. When they asked for an ambulance, they were denied for the same.
As a result, family members of the deceased were forced to carry the dead body in a tractor.
However, the Block Medical Officer of the Lakhanpur community health centre, P S Kerketta said, "The hearse vehicle is not usually available at the community health centre. Hence, we need to ask for an ambulance from the district hospital whenever it is required."
According to him, the hearse vehicle has not been used frequently in Lakhanpur CHC due to which it was kept in the district hospital.
