Chattisgarh: Congress Minister Kawasi Lakhma flouts lockdown norms, says 'I was bored'

Chattisgarh Minister Kawasi Lakhma travelled around 250 KM to reach Raigarh to meet a saint, flouting lockdown norms. Lakhma clarified that he was getting bored at home and hence he travelled from Raipur to Raigarh.

Raipur(Chattisgarh): Diluting the lockdown norms, the cabinet minister of Commercial Tax (Excise), Commerce and Industry in the government of Chhattisgarh Kawasi Lakhma travelled around 250 KM to reach Raigarh to meet a godman. The minister travelled across three states in his convoy to visit Baba Satyanarayan at his Kosamnara ashram in Raigarh.

According to sources, a three-star hotel which was shut during the lockdown was opened for the minister's stay.

When conferred with questions, the minister said, "I was tired sitting at home. I was bored sitting at Raipur, so I made an instant plan to meet the Saint".

"I have not attended any meetings. I am suffering from coronavirus", said the Cabinet Minister, who was seen without a mask or face shield.

"I got the information that illegal sale of liquor is going on in Raigarh district. I am the excise minister of the state, so I went in the district to pay a surprise visit. On my way, I thought of meeting the Godman who was also staying there. But due to corona and lockdown, the godman refused to meet me. But now, the media is misquoting me.

Minister went on to add, "Chattisgarh government is taking all necessary measures to fight against Covid-19. All necessary steps are being taken. Saving people's lives is our priority".

The total number of cases of coronavirus in Chhattisgarh stands at 36. Among the total people infected as of April 20, 25 have recovered. The state has reported no coronavirus-related casualties till date.
