New Delhi: The International Joint General Secretary of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Dr Surendra Jain on Tuesday said that lately there had been an increase in cases of love jihad where non-Muslim women have been harassed by Muslim men and it has to be stopped.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Dr Jain said, "Love Jihad, which refers to instances of Muslim men marrying non-Muslim women and harassing them after their marriage. This is a serious issue and has to be addressed soon. The Narendra Modi government has to put a law regarding this issue in the entire country. Non- Muslim women are ill-treated by Muslim men they marry."

"Forcibly converting non-Muslim girls to Islam and harassing them are all the acts of 'Love Jihad'. And if the girl refuses to marry, then they kill them as like Nikita is killed in Hathras. Every year several non-Muslim girls fall victim to this conspiracy," Dr Jain said.

"When these inhuman tortures become too much horrendous, then these girls find no way out but to commit suicide, but a very few girls get the opportunity to lodge complaints with the police," he added.

"We are demanding that the central and the state governments, realising the monstrousness and magnitude of the love-jihad conspiracy, enact strong laws to stop it," he further added.

"As far as the VHP is concerned, we have asked our workers to keep their eyes and ears open and in case they find any such cases, they should bring it to our notice. At the same time, we have also asked them to help the victims of such cases," he added.

The VHP leader claimed that chief ministers of a number of states have been expressing their concerns in this regard.
