Inaugurating "Women for Health and Wellness" special screening and nutrition counselling camp at Nirman Bhawan, Dr Harsh Vardhan said that instead of just one day dedicated to marking International Women's Day "the government with sharp focus on enhancing awareness about several women's issues and provisioning of services is now celebrating it for a week starting from March 1."
Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi's New India mission by 2022, Dr Harsh Vardhan said that health and wellbeing of women remain key components of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, which provides health coverage upto Rs 5 lakh per family per year to around identified 10.74 crore poor and vulnerable families.
"About 614 lakh women accessed healthcare service at Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres, accounting for 54 percent of the total footfalls," said Dr Harsh Vardhan.
Dr Harsh Vardhan said that women are not only the beneficiaries of the health care programs but are in fact an important part of the team delivering health care services to society.
"While globally MMR fell by nearly 45 percent, India recorded an exemplary decline of 78 percent reduction in maternal deaths over the last two decades," said Dr Vardhan.
