Vijayawada: Union Ministry of Forest and Environment decided to hold a citizen poll to select a 'national butterfly' via 'National Butterfly Campaign' consortium. As a part of this, people across the country can select the national butterfly, of their choice, till October 8.
Out of 1400 butterflies in India, seven have been chosen for the competition. Three species of butterflies from Mulapadu and Maredumilli forest areas of Andhra Pradesh have been selected for the online competition, namely Common Jezebel, Orange Oakleaf and Indian Nawab.
It may be recalled that a dedicated butterfly park was established at Mulapadu area in Krishna district for these butterflies, couple of years ago.
During the rainy season, about 60 types of butterflies come to this park in Mulapadu.
