New Delhi: The Centre has expressed serious concern over the unabated infiltration from across the border in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
"Attempts of infiltration from across the border are mainly in Jammu and Kashmir which has been affected by terrorist violence, sponsored and supported from across the border," said Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy in the Lok Sabha.
He said that Government of India has adopted a multi-pronged approach to contain cross border infiltration.
"Measures include multi-tiered deployment along the international border and line of control, border fencing, improved intelligence and operational coordination, equipping security forces with advanced weapons and taking pro-active action against infiltrators have been taken," Reddy said.
According to government statistics, around 143 infiltrations took place along the J&K border in 2018. As many as 136 in 2017 and 119 infiltrations took place in 2016.
The security forces, however, killed 35 infiltrators in 2016, 59 in 2017 and 32 infiltrators in 2018.
Reddy informed that as many as 27 security force personnel have also been martyred during a proactive engagement with the infiltrators.
