Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): While launching the Bharatiya Janta Party's nationwide door-to-door Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) awareness programme on Sunday Lok Sabha MP Pragya Singh Thakur in Bhopal - her constituency in Madhya Pradesh - said that the general public is "Opposing the Constitution" by protesting against the CAA.
"We will have to spread awareness among the general public. They need to know that when a Bill receives the President's assent it becomes a law, and by opposing this law they are opposing the Constitution," said Thakur while she was distributing pamphlets to "educate" people on the contentious legislation.
She added, "It is unconstitutional to not implement a law."
Taking a dig at the Opposition, particularly Congress and the Left parties, Thakur said, "Congress and Left parties have spread rumours against the Act which is harmful to the country."
"Congress has a history of supporting rioters/protesters, " added the saffron-clad MP.
The BJP had, on Friday, announced that it will be launching a mega door-to-door campaign in support of controversial CAA across the country on January 5, with all senior leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party working president JP Nadda pitching in as star campaigners in different cities.

The party has also launched a toll-free number for people to lend their support to the Citizenship Act.
The efforts are being made by the ruling BJP after the CAA - which was pushed by the saffron party- met nationwide protests since its passage in the Parliament.
