New Delhi: Congress worker Jagdish Sharma has claimed that opposition leaders are being targetted with false cases, in the aftermath of CBI arrest of Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram in INX media case and stated that Congress workers will stage a nationwide protest.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Jagdish Sharma opined that Chidambaram is being framed by the CBI with no evidence against the former Finance Minister and his son Karti Chidambaram.
"All Opposition leaders including Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav and Mamata Banerjee are being targetted. Those who are in the Opposition today will be in Jail tomorrow," Sharma said.
Speaking about the case against P Chidambaram Sharma said, "Chidambaram's name is not mentioned in the chargesheet. We are with our leader."
"Since the arrival of Sonia Gandhi there is a momentum in Congress party. BJP's aim is to defame the Congress," he added.
Congress workers had staged a protest, alleging "misuse" of the power by the central agency, outside the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office to denounce the arrest of senior party leader P Chidambaram.
The Congress and a host of its leaders have backed P Chidambaram, who has been remanded in a money laundering case related to INX Media, with Rahul Gandhi accusing the government of using probe agencies and the media to "character assassinate" the former finance minister.
A Special Court has remanded former Finance Minister to five-day CBI custody in connection with the INX media case till August 26. The Delhi High Court had earlier rejected anticipatory bail filed by Chidambaram. However, the Court said that family members and lawyers are permitted to meet Chidambaram for 30 minutes a day.
CBI is also reportedly investigating the trail of payments in several companies abroad and Letter of Rogatory (LR) have been sent to the concerned countries.
