Poonch (Jammu and Kashmir): A security guard of a BJP leader fired a few rounds in the air after he reportedly spotted suspicious movement near the politician's residence in Jammu and Kashmir's Balakote sector along the Line of Control (LoC) early on Sunday, police said.

The Personal Security Officer (PSO) of BJP leader Zulfkar Pathan spotted suspicious movement near the house of the 'protected person' in Balakote in Poonch district in the wee hours, a police official said.

He said the PSO fired a few rounds in the air as a precautionary measure.

Cordon and search operation was carried out by police and security forces in the area this morning, but there was no trace of any suspected persons near the house, the official said.

Earlier, on October 7, security forces gunned down one terrorist in retaliatory fire after he opened fire on a personal security officer (PSO) of a BJP worker in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district.

The BJP worker identified as Gulam Qadir Rather, a resident of Nunar Ganderbal, was, however, safe.

Earlier on July 8, a BJP leader and an ex-district president of the party for North Kashmir's Bandipore was killed by suspected terrorists.

According to sources, the former BJP president of Bandipora district Wasim Bari was at his shop with his father and brother when some unidentified terrorists struck and shot at them injuring them critically. All three succumbed to the injuries.
