New Delhi: Shortly after the government urged citizens not to panic buy amid the lockdown, the BJP reassured people that the supply of essential commodities will not be disrupted.
BJP National spokespersons Shahnawaz Hussain and Syed Zafar Islam appealed to the public to follow the lockdown procedure and not indulge in panic buying or hoarding of supplies.
Islam said that the Prime Minister in his address to the nation had only made two appeals to the people - not to panic, and exercise social distancing.
He added that the Prime Minister had made it clear that the government would ensure that all citizens have access to essential commodities.

Echoing similar views, Hussain said that it was the Prime Minister's promise that there would no shortage in the supply of essential commodities like food and medicines.
Both Islam and Hussain also asked people to exercise social distancing, as COVID-19 was a dangerous virus.
Earlier in the day, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said there was no need for people to panic as shops selling essentials and medicines will remain open throughout the 21-day lockdown imposed to combat the coronavirus outbreak.
He also said there were sufficient legal provisions available to deal with black marketeers and hoarders.
