Bihar's 'bicycle girl' Jyothi to get Rs 20,000 stipend per month, says CFI president

Days after Jyoti Kumari pedalled 1300 km from Gurugram to Bihar over eight days, CFI President and politician Parminder Singh Dhindsa said she will be given a stipend of Rs 20,000 if she clears the trial. Her efforts were appreciated by Singh, who said that the Federation will take care of her expenses.

Chandigarh(Punjab): The story of Bihar's 'bicycle girl' Jyoti Kumari , who cycled 1300 km from Gurugram to Bihar over eight days with her injured father riding pillion caught a lot of attention on social media. Jyoti even drew the attention of US President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump, who lauded her efforts as "feat of endurance and love". She has been offered a cycling trial by the Cycling Federation of India(CFI) after her video went viral.

"CFI looks for young talents across the nation. We are amazed that Jyoti pedalled 1300 km in eight days with her injured father which shows her strength, grit and determination. She is blessed with an enormous cycling talent. We will provide new learning opportunities to her ", said CFI President and politician Parminder Singh Dhindsa.

He said, "The expenses of Jyoti and her care-taker will be borne by the government. She will also be given a stipend of Rs 20,000 per month."

"It's unfortunate that Jyoti had to travel 1300 km with her father riding pillion. We have called her for trials. After the lockdown is lifted, she will be tested as per the prescribed rules. If she passes the test, she will be provided training here. We will take care of her expenses", Singh added.

Jyoti captured attention after she cycled 1300 km with her injured father during the corona-induced lockdown after their landlord asked them to vacate the room.
