Muzaffarpur(Bihar): One more child died due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome(AES) in Muzaffarpur on Monday. The child was admitted to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital(SKMCH) on April 26.
Fourteen cases of AES were reported from Muzaffarpur, Sitamadi, Motihari, Vaishali this month. According to reports, eight children have been discharged from the hospital and five are still undergoing treatment.
District Officer, Dr Chandrasekhar Singh said, "This time, the administration is taking measures to raise awareness among people of AES. To run full-fledged awareness campaigns, our office bearers have identified and adopted 320 villages prone to the disease. We are running awareness programmes every week to make people aware of AES".
The officer added,"We have deployed vehicles to provide emergency services. In addition to this, we have also formed a committee of ward members, Anganwadi workers, Asha and Jeevika Didi to keep an eye on the village and panchayat level."
"We are also making a list of malnourished kids and efforts are being made to ensure that underfed children are getting proper food", he added.
Last year, the state had reported more than 100 cases of Encephalitis after which Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had reviewed the measures taken for protecting the people from brain fever. Steps were initiated for the prevention of the disease which was reported from several districts.
