Jahanabad: A man fell to his death in an attempt to escape from a COVID-19 isolation ward in Bihar's Jahanabad on Sunday.
Police said that 45-year-old Hira Prasad was arrested on August 17 for misbehaving in public after getting drunk. He tested COVID-19 positive after the court ordered to test him for the infection. Following the court's order police admitted him to the isolation ward.
The man is a resident of Kali Nagar area and his family claimed that he divorced his wife seven years ago and went into depression.
Jahanabad SP Meenu Kumari said that he died while trying to escape from the isolation ward by jumping off a roof. His body was sent for post-mortem.
A total of 1,227 fresh COVID-19 positive cases were reported on August 23 in the state. Taking the total count of active cases in Bihar to 24,318.
