Mirthi (Uttarakhand): In a chase sequence worthy of prime time television news - a group of 'invaders' slowly closing in on an Indian security force base. Just as the intruders are about to launch a full-blown attack, they are met with resistance by two brave jawans, who successfully thwart their 'mission of destruction'.

Only the 'invaders' are a scurrying pack of monkeys and the jawans are Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel dressed up as 'bears' in a bid to scare away the nimble-footed critters from raiding their camp in Uttarakhand's Mirthi.

A video of the unique exercise went viral on social media with Twitterti having a field day.

A Twitter user going by the name Neeta Sharma, a journalist working with NDTV, shared the video with the caption, "#ITBP jawans found a unique way to scare monkeys in #Uttrakhand They dressed like jungle bears! See how monkeys ran away in seconds @ITBP_official"

To which Veer Bhadra replied that the monkeys would eventually find their way to counter the strategy, an opinion backed by several other Twitter users.

  • Monkeys adapt very fast , this game can't fool them for too long.

  • They are too intelligent, they will soon found a hack. I have tried lot of things and most of times it started well but within few days they get plan.

Several also compared it to the strategy adopted by Ahmedabad airport officials, who were seen, in a viral video, donning a bear costume to chase away monkeys from the airport premises.

  • This was also tried in Ahmedabad airport few weeks back I guess. 🤔 @jgopikrishnan70
