Guwahati: In order to prevent poachers from killing one-horned Rhinoceros in the region of Kaziranga National Park, four new Belgian Malinois sniffer dogs have joined the K-9 squad on Tuesday.
The K-9 squad formed in 2011, is a pack of sniffer dogs who help forest officials to track down and arrest poaching suspects.
These dogs also help in recovering arms and ammunition, narcotics, explosives and even humans.
Both sniffer-dogs and their handlers undergo special training which helps in the development and maintenance of their skill sets.
The dogs named Misky, Sheela, Jharba, and Bubbly were brought to the country in 2011 by Aaranyak, a leading wildlife NGO based in Guwahati.
These dogs possess a high prey-driven capability and were deployed by the US Navy during the search operation of Osama Bin Laden.
