Tezpur: Amid the coronavirus lockdown, the Border Roads Organization (BRO) of the Indian Army has opened a strategic road bridge in Arunachal Pradesh, which is expected to facilitate easy movement of supplies to the troops deployed in the country's eastern frontiers as well as will give connectivity to some remote villages which had hitherto remained cut off.
Named after Ashok Chakra awardee martyr, Hangpan Dada, the bridge over Subansiri river at Daporijo was recently inaugurated by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu. The bridge is a strategic link towards the LAC between India and China.
All supplies, rations, constructional material and medicines pass over this bridge. The old Bridge there developed cracks which could lead to a major catastrophe like on 26 Jul 1992 when a passenger bus fell off the bridge leaving no survivors.
The difficult and dangerous task was completed in record time adhering to all COVID-19 precautions. The "Hangpan Dada Subansiri Bridge" has a carrying capacity of 40 ton and it was completed within a record time of 27 days.
Officials said that the work for the construction of the bailey bridge had started on March 17, 2020 and it was completed after 27 days on April 14, 2020.
