Amit Shah reviews security preparedness in Nepal, Bhutan borders

Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited SSB headquarters on Tuesday and reviewed its operational preparedness along the Nepal and Bhutan borders. Amit Shah was accompanied by Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and other senior officials of the home ministry.

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday visited Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) headquarters on Tuesday and reviewed its operational preparedness along the Nepal and Bhutan borders.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs officials, Union Home Minister reviewed the functioning of the SSB through a presentation given by the Director-General of the Force, Kumar Rajesh Chandra. "He was apprised of the organizational structure of SSB, its deployment, operational achievements, and various facets as well as the concerns."

Amit Shah was accompanied by Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and other senior officials of the home ministry.

During his first visit to the RK Puram-based headquarters of the SSB after becoming home minister, Shah received the ceremonial welcome with Guard of Honour, officials said.

As of 2019, it has 94,261 active personnel in 73 battalions and strength of 98,965 is sanctioned.

The Sashastra Seema Bal was established as Special Service Bureau in May 1963, in the aftermath of the Chinese aggression (in 1962). It came under the aegis of the Ministry of Home Affairs in Jan 2001 and assigned the duties of manning the Nepal and Bhutan border.
