New Delhi: Air India on Tuesday formed an emergency cell to tackle issues in real-time basis arising out of the coronavirus pandemic during the flight operations.
In a statement issued by Air India Chairman Rajiv Bansal said all employees were rising to the occasion and had made the national carrier proud by their selfless contribution towards serving the cause.
"However to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operations regional directors (RD) are advised to set up a 24X7 cell headed by respective RD monitoring all emergent issues of operation of flights. The cell should consist of representatives from operations engineering, inflight service, medical commercial and personal department," the order further stated.
Air India Chairman Rajiv Bansal in the order said that the 24X7 emergency Covid-19 cell has to be formed on Tuesday itself. Recently, an Air India flight from Delhi to Moscow had to return midway after the airline's ground team found out that one of the pilots had tested positive for novel coronavirus.
As per the AI officials, more than 40 crew members have tested positive for Covid-19.
On May 25, the government had allowed domestic airlines to resume operations across the country. But, just a day after flights were resumed, more than 10 passengers tested Covid-19 positive. However, experts are of the view that flying might be the safest mode of long-distance travel as the air inside aircraft is far cleaner than the hospitals in the country.
