New Delhi: As part of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janta Party's efforts to reach out to Muslims ahead of the Ayodhya verdict, a meeting with the community's clerics, academics and prominent persons was organised in Delhi on Tuesday, with participants stressing on maintaining social harmony and unity.
The meeting, held at the home of Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, was attended by RSS leaders Krishna Gopal and Ramlal, former Union minister Shahnawaz Hussain, and a large number of prominent members of the Muslim community.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind general secretary Mahmood Madani, filmmaker Muzaffar Ali, All India Muslim Personal Law Board member Kamal Faruqui, former MP Shahid Siddiqui and Shia cleric Kalbe Jawad, former Haj Committee Chairman Qaiser Shamim, were among the key Muslim personalities present at the meet.
ETV Bharat spoke to a host of leaders representing the Muslim community in the meeting who expressed commitment to strengthen and protect the fabric of the socio-communal harmony, brotherhood, and unity of the country under all circumstances.
While coming out of the meeting, former Samajwadi Party leader Kamal Farooqui said, "People got the opportunity to say what they had to say. The meeting concluded with unanimity without a single note of dissent. We unanimously decided to accept the Supreme Court's decision on the matter with grace, be it Hindus or Muslims. There shouldn't be any objection to the top court's decision by either party."
Echoing his sentiments, prominent Shia cleric Maulana Syed Kalbe Jawad Naqvi said, "The ultimate decision will be taken by the Supreme Court, but the Muslim community has collectively decided to respect its decision. We have made an appeal to all Muslims to hold themselves back from reacting to either victory or loss."
When asked about the presence and reaction of RSS leaders in the meeting, former Haj Committee Chairman Qaiser Shamim said, "Sangh leaders came to attend the meeting and their approach was quite positive. They said whatever a sane-minded person would say about an issue such as this."
