Accord with Bodo rebel groups brings peace in Assam, says MP Biswajit Daimary

Following the Bodo accord signed on January 27, Rajya Sabha MP from Assam Biswajit Daimary expressed confidence that the peace accord with four Bodo rebel groups would certainly bring peace in Assam. Though due to this accord the non-Bodos living in proposed BCAC area fear that their rights and liberty will be curtailed in the autonomous council.

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP from Assam Biswajit Daimary on Monday expressed confidence that the peace accord with four Bodo rebel groups would certainly bring peace in Assam.

"I believe that the accord will certainly bring peace in Assam and solve the decades-old insurgency problem," said Daimary.

He said that the accord could safeguard and protect the language, culture and identity of the Bodos living outside the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) areas of Assam.

Daimary said that the Bodo Cachari Autonomous Council (BCAC) will also ensure the rights of the non-Bodo people living in the geographical area of BCAC.

Amid hopes and aspirations, uncertainty prevails among the non-Bodos living in the BCAC area.
