Agartala: The North Eastern state of Tripura which has already made its special appearance in the national and international market for its bamboo product like bamboo bottle, bamboo rice and many more has now entered the tea market with bamboo leaf tea.
“The first consignment of around 500 kg of bamboo leaf tea has already been sold to an exporter in Delhi while another 3-4 kg has been purchased by a man from Madurai who stayed in Tripura for three days and studied the entire production process,” Samir Jamatia, the developer of the tea said.

He sold the product at the basic price of Rs. 120 per Kg, he added
Jamatia, a member of the Bamboo Society of India who extensively toured in different countries and spent years in China for various bamboo-related works, said that he had initiated the production of bamboo leaf tea on his own—right from collecting of young leaves to packaging the tea.

He said the experts believe that the bamboo leaf tea is rich in antioxidants and antibiotic properties while the presence of huge amounts of silicon in tea leaves helps keep hair, skin and nails healthy as well as strengthens bones and the teeth.
“The bamboo leaf tea comes with a different flavour. Around 30 varieties of bamboo are grown in Tripura and tea can be produced from all those varieties,” he said.
