Maharashtra CM asks Centre to rename Aurangabad Airport

Maharastra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray asked the Union Civil Aviation Minister to issue a notification to rename Aurangabad Airport as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Airport. In the letter to the Union Minister, he added that the State Cabinet has unanimously passed a resolution on the same.

Mumbai: Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has informed the Union Civil Aviation Minister that the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation should issue a notification to rename Aurangabad Airport as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Airport as soon as possible. Chief Minister Thackeray has sent a reminder to Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardip Singh Puri in this regard.

The letter said that the state cabinet has decided to name the Aurangabad airport after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. A resolution to this effect has also been unanimously passed in the budget session of the legislature in both the houses. Correspondence has also been received with the Union Ministry from the level of Chief Secretary regarding the renaming. Accordingly, he demanded that the notification regarding the naming of Aurangabad Airport as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Airport should be issued as soon as possible.

While the issue of naming Aurangabad city as Sambhaji Nagar has been raging for the last few days, the Chief Minister has sent a letter to the Center demanding that the airport here be named after Sambhaji Maharaj. Due to this letter from the Chief Minister, the Central Government will have to issue a notification for this, otherwise, the leaders of the Mahavikas Aghadi will get a chance to criticize the BJP for this.

Correspondence has also been received by the Union Ministry from the level of Chief Secretary regarding the renaming of the airport. Accordingly, the notification to rename Aurangabad Airport as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Airport should be issued as soon as possible, the Chief Minister's Office said in a tweet.
