ATS to probe Jan Mohammad's connection to 'D-Company': ATS chief

Vineet Agarwal said a team of Maharashtra ATS would visit Delhi to interrogate Jan Mohammad. He added that the Delhi Police had carried out the operation at Kota in Rajasthan without any alert. A case has already been registered against Jan Mohammad at Pydhonie police station.

Mumbai: One of the six suspected terrorists arrested by the Delhi Police, Jan Mohammad, a resident of Dharavi in ​​Mumbai, has links with the 'D-company' about 20 years back, ATS chief Vineet Agarwal told a press conference here on Wednesday. 'D-Company' is a term used to refer to the underworld crime syndicate controlled by fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim.

Agarwal said that a team of four ATS officers will go to Delhi to interrogate Mohammad. He also assured that Mumbai city and the whole of Maharashtra is safe.

"The suspect, Jan Mohammad Sheikh, had an connection with D-Gang twenty years ago as he was working for Dawood. This person was on the radar of Maharashtra ATS because of this link. However, no explosives or weapons were found in his possession during the Delhi Police operation," Agarwal said.

'He was in financial trouble'

Jaan Mohammad Sheikh had booked a ticket to go to Nizamuddin, but the ticket was not confirmed and two days later, Jan Mohammad travelled to Nizamuddin in a sleeper coach. Jan Mohammad started his journey from Mumbai Central. He was arrested by Delhi Police from Rajasthan. Jaan was working as a driver. He had bought a taxi, but he could not repay its EMI. He later bought a two-wheeler. However, Agarwal said that due to financial difficulties, he may have come in contact with the 'D-Company'.

"We have contacted the family of Jan Mohammad for questioning," he said.

Not a failure of Maharashtra ATS

Jaan was arrested from Kota in Rajasthan during the Mumbai-Nizamuddin journey. But no explosives or weapons were found in his possession. Therefore, this is not a failure of the Maharashtra Police, said Vineet Agarwal. The Delhi Police had received information from the intelligence agency in this case.

Accordingly, the Delhi Police has arrested the suspected terrorists from different places simultaneously. Talks with the Delhi Police have been going on for the last two days. The matter will be investigated soon. However, Agarwal said he had not received an FIR in this regard and was expecting it from the Delhi Police.

Maharashtra, Mumbai safe

The state of Maharashtra and the city of Mumbai are completely safe, said Vineet Agarwal.

There are so many people on our radar. But the action taken by the Delhi Police, in this case, was independent. Maharashtra ATS was not informed about this, said Agarwal.

He also said that the information that Mumbai local or places in Mumbai were on the radar of terrorists was completely wrong.

No explosives or weapons were found in Mumbai. Therefore, Mumbai city and the whole of Maharashtra is safe, said ATC chief.

Two cases against Jan

A case has already been registered against Jan Mohammad at Pydhonie police station. One of the cases is for electricity theft in 2010 and the other one is a firing case. Agarwal said the two cases were currently pending in the court.
