Although four days have passed since the declaration of results of the assembly polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is yet to announce the name of the next chief minister of the state.
After the BJP led alliance came to power in Assam on May 2, there are speculations that there will be a change of guard this time in the state.
Some legislators among the alliance partners are saying that previous chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal should be retained while some others have rallied behind the previous state health and finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the top seat.
The BJP central leadership had been maintaining that the party's parliamentary board will take a decision on the chief ministerial candidate shortly. However, the parliamentary board is yet to hold its meeting.
