Lucknow (UP): The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on Thursday made it clear that it is religiously wrong for Muslim boys and girls to marry non-Muslims and that inter-religious marriages are not legal in shariat. The announcement by AIMPLB holds significance given the issue of religious conversions and inter-religious marriages. In this regard, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board has issued an appeal to Muslim religious leaders and youths through a press release.

According to AIMPLB, in Islamic marriages, it is necessary that a Muslim girl marry only a Muslim boy and that a Muslim boy cannot marry a Mushrik (polytheistic) girl. The private body working to protect Muslim personal laws also said that in case an inter-religious marriage is performed, then it will not be valid according to Sharia.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board further said that due to co-working spaces, lack of religious education (dini) and lack of training on the part of parents have led to a number of inter-religion marriages with non-Muslims take place. There have also been many incidents wherein Muslim girls having married non-Muslim boys, later had to go through great difficulties, the AIMPLB added saying that some even had to lose their life.

The AIMPLB has also issued directives in this regard:

  • In the Ulema-e-Kiram processions, awareness on these issues must be created.
  • More and more women should have ijtema and discuss this aspect among them along with other remedial topics.
  • Discuss this topic in relevance with the Juma, the Imam of the mosques, in the Dars of the Quran and Hadith and tell the people how they should train their daughters so that such incidents do not happen?
  • Parents should arrange dini (religious) education of their children, keep a close watch on mobile phones of boys and girls etc. Try to teach girls in girls' school as much as possible, ensure that they don't spend time anywhere outside school and make them understand that only a Muslim can be a life partner for a Muslim.
  • Parents of boys and especially girls should take care that there is no delay in marriage, because delay in marriage is also a big reason for such incidents.
  • Marriages must be done in a simple manner as there is a blessing in it and it also saves precious wealth from being wasted
