Afghan youth yearns for peace in war-ravaged nation

Earlier today, at least 5 people lost their lives in Kabul international airport as thousands rushed to board planes leaving Afghanistan. However, due to the chaos in the airport, all commercial flights were suspended from Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul on Monday.

New Delhi: The Afghan nationals who arrived in New Delhi to escape from the unabated spree of Talibani atrocities as it gains control in Afghanistan, have expressed anguish over the deteriorating situation in the country and are concerned about the safety and security of the people back home.

Many Afghani students who study in India, arrived in New Delhi, on Sunday evening from Kabul amid much fear and uncertainty.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Abdullah Masudi, a BBA student of Bengaluru who arrived last night, said, "Last night, I landed in New Delhi and that was the last flight from Afghanistan to India. The situation in Afghanistan is very tough and challenging.

"People were terrified and were rushing to banks to take out money. Currently, there is huge chaos going on in the Kabul airport as everyone is trying to escape. People are worried about the future whether they are going to have food and shelter or not. My family is safe as of now but also they are worried about the future as there is so much uncertainty that lies ahead," he added.

"I hope the Taliban are not going indulge in violence. I also hope that they would maintain peace and transparency in the country", said Abdullah.

Every year, hundreds of students from Afghanistan, arrive in India to pursue their higher education. India, they say, is their second home.

Air India flight AI244 carrying 129 passengers from Afghanistan's capital Kabul landed in Delhi on Sunday evening amid a Taliban takeover of the country.

As the Taliban sweeps Afghanistan by power, chaos and panic continue in Afghanistan as civilians flee Kabul.

Earlier today, at least five people lost their lives in Kabul international airport as thousands rushed to board planes leaving Afghanistan. However, due to the chaos in the airport, all commercial flights were suspended from Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul on Monday.

Videos of people dropping from the skies, and some clinging to flight wings in a desperate attempt to flee the country also surfaced on the internet.

Meanwhile, reacting to the developments in Afghanistan, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, "The situation in Afghanistan is being monitored constantly at high levels. The Government will take all steps to ensure the safety and security of Indian nationals and our interests in Afghanistan".

He also reiterated that apart from repatriating Indians who are still stuck in Afghanistan, India will also stand by the people of Afghanistan.

"We will facilitate repatriation to India of those who wish to leave Afghanistan. There are also several Afghans who have been our partners in the promotion of our mutual developmental, educational and people to people endeavours. We will stand by them," Bagchi added.
